SUNNY SATURDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SUNNY SATURDAY

Postby Nasoosie » Sat Apr 16, 2011 7:22 am

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING TO US ALL!

The sun is coming out here in Orlando, as usual, and it's a comfy 70 degrees with all my doors and windows open. The frogs at the edge of the pond serenaded me and Molly as we slept on the screened porch all night long----what a treat for April!

After hearing about my daughter's sonogram yesterday, I am so excited to know about my grandson-to-be! I wish she would hurry up and send me a scanned copy of the pics they got yesterday at the doc's. His face was turned, so no 3D pic of that as yet, but his 'boy' parts were showing up very well! They think he will be born at the end of September or the first part of October. I will certainly be back there for that event!

The St. Cloud kids called last night, and they will be coming here this afternoon to take me for a trip to City Walk tonight----a touristy place close to here where we can walk, get some drinks, go on rides, they will---not me! and have a fun night out on the town. They are saying it's for Mother's Day as I might not still be here whenever that is. I am thinking I might still be here, unless the bad weather patterns change sooner than I am thinking they will.

So off I go to vacuum, clean up, take a walk, take a bike ride, and then perhaps head to the pool for a swim. Sounds like a good Saturday in retirementland to me!

Coffee is hazlenut again, so pull up a chair and tell us something. Happy Saturday!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good morning to all. Woke up to a lovely blue cloudless sky here. Thought we were going to get some of the storms coming through, but if so, it'll be later.

Went to visit my dd near Tampa yesterday to get my mail and take her out to lunch. While there I got my handheld GPS back from her. I had given it to her when they got a boat, but they now have a better gps and aren't using the handheld. So today I registered on the geocaching website and am off with Roe to find my first geocache located in the town park here in McIntosh. There are several others near here too, but this one is closest so will try to find it first. Thanks Alice, for the info about geocaching.

Have a load of laundry going in the laundrymat, and need to do some serious dusting/vacuuming inside the rv today too. Maybe.

There's another event I may try to attend just north of here in the little town of Evinston. More on that later, if I go.

Good morning Soos and Kath! It's a beautiful day in TX too. Probably low 80s before it's over. This morning I will go to the local golf clinic and then, hopefully, this afternoon visit the Butterfly House in Fredericksburg iwth DD and DGD.

Perfect timing for a new baby Soos before you head south for the winter! We have a new baby in our family too. Emma Jeanne was born at 3:41 yesterday morning on my Mom's birthday. :) She is the great grand daughter of my step Mom. :) Love it! Guess I get to go shopping for a baby gift too.

My new (inflatable) kayak arrived last week. Tried it out in the pool one day and then down to lake only to find four bus loads of kids on a field trip at the launch. So haven't had it out on real water yet. So far, so good. I'm hoping it works out as it only weights 16 pounds, perfect for light travel.

Have a fun day out there!!!!

p.s. Hi Liz, you posted in front of me, but no disappearing act for my post!

good morning ladies,
thank god for the laptop as my regular computer is temporarily down, something going on with the port for the
mouse. Will check more into it as time allows. Still getting used to this little keyboard but its doable.
Its been a pretty stressful week at the school district. Its insurance enrollment time and lots of changes.
Have lots to research and study before I make my decisions on each plan. Have a week to do that. Then
of course there is the big shake up with the district board meeting last Monday. Seems with the budget
the way it is there is a lot of chopping going on, several depts are getting privatized and even mention
of privatizing of the bus drivers, THAT IS NOT GOOD!! My retirement could be in jeopardy if that happens.
I tried to watch the video but after 4 hours of "I's", "nays" etc, etc I about fell asleep and shut off the
computer. I was told the mention of the bus drivers was towards the end so I didn't get that far. Wished
I had checked before I turned on the video how long the board meeting lasted. The part I wanted to hear
was not listed in the minutes so I might have to satisfy myself by getting a recap from some of my co-workers
I saw attended it.
Suppose to be a hot weekend, up in the higher 90's. I'll be off to Home Depot in a short while to get my piece
of plywood for my loft I've built over the bed for storage. Then I can get the bedroom rearranged and cleaned
up to a more suitable arrangement. A little running around for other errands and then of course this evening
its off to work.
Time for a refill and maybe a yogurt and a couple cookies and call that breakfast. Have a great day everyone!

Hello Ladies

It's a cool, rainy April day here in Central VA. We might be getting the wild weather from down south, but I hope it passes us by. I'm ok with the rain and cool temps, but I don't want the heavy duty winds that may be coming.

I spent a couple of hours at the urgent care. Mid week, I had this weird itchy place on my forehead; but when I'd reach up to scratch it a little, it hurt a bit like a bruise. This remained for a couple of days, until late yesterday when I felt a what seemed to be a big zit coming up near my hairline. By the time I went to bed, I had a red patch there and near my ear on my cheek. I also had a really stiff achy shoulder on the same side. During the night, the shoulder hurt every time I moved, and I started having burn-like pain on the top of my head. This morning I got up and looked in the mirror...now I have a new patch on the side of my nose near my eye. I started Googling and decided I had shingles. The reading suggested strongly that if it's near your eye, you need to get to the docs to check the eye. By now, I have Googled and verified it's probably shingles. And the readings convinced me to get to the docs cuz having this close to your eye can be dangerous to your vision. So went to the docs and got the diagnosis along with a prescription for anti-viral drugs and pain meds. The anti-virals will shorten the duration of the outbreak and will help prevent any permanent nerve damage. I always thought that shingles showed up around your middle section, but head and face aren't that unusual. But let me tell you, it's like my head is on fire!!  and I look like hell...bright red patches on my forehead, my cheek and nose. Just lovely.

When I went to get the prescriptions filled, I went by Panera and got some chicken soup. Ive now taken the first of the meds and am feeling the effects--a little woozy. So I'm gonna close now and get myself into bed. My shoulder is already feeling better, and, hopefully, the burning feeling on my head will ease too.

Toss some prayers up for me that this goes away quickly please!

Shingles are very painful, and do indeed cause permanent nerve damage if not caught early. So glad you got yourself to dr. and on meds. Hope your case is mild and clears up quickly. I'll be saying a prayer for you today.

Shingles scare the tar out of me. I hope you caught it early and they can bring it under control fast. My mom had pain from shingles for at least a couple years. It's what made me look at the prevention - until I read all the facts and saw that it's not more than 50% effective (if that) and not given to anyone under 60 - which left me out anyway. I'm going to keep an eye on it though. And my prayers are with you that this is over fast.

Diana, that's the weight of mine - which is one of the reasons I bought it. So far I love mine - hope you do yours.

Well, I ran to the store today in the rain - which feels so very cold even though it's in the mid-40's. BUT ... got to the store and reached under the seat for my purse and realized I left without it. Now, I've been worried about that - having been so used to always taking my home with me - but was hoping I'd never do it. I remember my Mom who believed in keeping a $20 in every car, purse, etc as "just in case". Well today a $20 wouldn't be much. But I was lucky to find $21 in my coat - which I had taken to buy something at the store at the cg and hadn't used. So, out of my big long list, I was able to get my most important item and one other. I laughed all the way back. And thought - well, I probably would have grabbed some junk (especially junk foods) and that became impossible. So everything else on the list waits at least till Wed - when I have an appt to take Peaches to the vet for her annual exam.

Now, I'm about to jump in the shower and get ready for work - and play for an hour (I start at 3 today).

Yesterday had an rv service repair guy here (3rd appt, 1st one we actually connected) to replace my sink faucet and see if he can find the problem with my furnace. I feel like I'm learning of Alice's rv woes. This guy comes highly recommended here - but needs a new part for my new faucet. I have to believe him that is was faulty. He does seem to think he knows the right part to get the furnace back working properly - as for the 1st time when looked at by a repair person, the furnace did what it does to me, and didn't work. So, hopefully when he gets the part in and replaced, my furnace will work for me, too :)

Hoping for the rain to quit for tomorrow as it's my day off. All I have planned is laundry and working on websites ... but would be nice to get some nice walks in. Peaches doesn't mind the cool and rain ... but I prefer dry :)

Hope you're all having a great day.

That would be so nice! I miss the crickets and frogs at night. Last night (1 am) I got abruptly woken up by a group of people (drunk) in the parking lot talking and arguing for quite awhile. I tried closing my window but could still hear it. A little while later three cop cars pulled in, but I think the group scattered when they saw them, as it was very quiet. The cops left after about a half hour and it wasn't 5 minutes later that the loud arguing, etc started back up. I finally fell asleep a couple hours later.

Got up early for a meeting at work this morning and then did a little shopping for things I couldn't find the other day at Walmart. Ended up at Big Lots since they have good stuff and good deals.

Gonna relax here for awhile while waiting for my old roommate to show up. There is "Frontier Days" in Lake Elsinore this weekend, so I might run up there later on and check that out. Gonna be around 90 today so will be very warm but as long as it isn't humid, I don't mind.

Sounds like lots of fun things going on this weekend for several of you. Have fun and stay safe!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Shingles can be a very painful disease. Believe it or not, I had it when I was 7 and missed the last two months of second grade.

Good thing you were able to do internet research and get in to see the doctor right away. Hope it does does not spread, and the drugs help with the pain and such.

They are slightly changing the rules for the vaccine. (I did get mine recently.) It is recommended for people over 60, but it is also recommended for people who have a weakened immune system, are pregnant, or are undergoing cancer treatment. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/do ... ingles.pdf

One other thing that I thought about when I started to read your post is that a red blotch that grows quickly could also be a staph infection or cellulitis. If you ever get that, get to the doctor or emergency room fast. I had a 2" red patch that tripled in size overnight. Luckily, I had been visiting my mother in her assisted living late the night before and the nurse noticed it. I called my doctor at 7:30 am on a Saturday morning, got in to see someone immediately, and had my prescription filled, all within an hour! These infection can be very dangerous.

Hope you feel better soon.

LI - Hope you get over the shingles quickly and do not suffer with that hideous pain that comes with it. My mother (now 92) had the shingles a few years ago and still has pain in her shoulder where it was centered. Her Dr. didn't know what it was until she got the rash. I got the shingles shot 1-1/2 yr ago - hope it wards off that disease!!
It's great that we can check the Internet.

Good luck,

Mid afternoon here!
I've had breakfast, lunch and a Dairy Queen hot fudge sundae. :o I"m sure I can't fit in another meal today!

Left the house at 7:45AM to head up north to take my youngest GD to her soccer game. It started at 9 but they wanted the team there by 8:30. The interstate was so quiet I scooted along like the wind and we arrived early and the gate to the park was still closed. Of course my GD had to go potty so we went to a nearby CG to use their restroom. As I'm standing in the bathroom with my youngest, she asks why I'm wearing two different shoes!! :o
It's official! Senility has set in already! And to top it off. One tennis shoe is all black and the other is white! So it's not like the colors were closely related. So I sat thru the soccer game and even went into a sit down restaurant for lunch and the Dairy Queen with mix matched shoes. Oh, well.

Soos, congrats on the awaiting arrival of your grandson! How exciting for you all!
Congrats to the newest member of your family, Diana, too!

Li, I'm glad you got help asap! My SIL's aunt is blind in one eye from shingles, and my sister got the kind on the chest/back area and is still in pain and taking meds 4 mons later. Age-wise I am right on the curve but wanted a shot anyway. No sense in waiting. Eventhough they say it will only help out 50%, I'll take those odds. I also was going to get a whooping cough vac. yesterday but the person at the pharmacy that does the shots was not there at the moment. I'm not sure how long that vaccine is good for.

Well, I feel a nap coming on. Both GDs are down already so I need to get mine in while I can. Also the neighbor girl has been texting as she wants to come over to play.

Take care all!

Thanks Lenora (and the rest of you too); I appreciate the support and info. This is just not at all fun! And to add to the negative fun meter, we're just out from under a tornado warning right now! the Doc this morning did some sort of "stain" test in my eye; said she didn't see anything impacting, but also wrote a referral for me to get to an opthamologist on Monday.  And I will follow that advice. Crossed fingers! Pain meds are working...head not on fire now... Yea! And tornado warning is now cancelled...double yea!!! :D :D
