Surprise

Postby Ladyhawk » Sun Apr 10, 2011 8:39 am

Some might say I've been under the weather, but I've actually been under the influence....of Percocet. I didn't want to make a big deal of anything prior to surgery, but I had a double mastectomy on Monday. After being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time, I decided to start with a "clean slate." ;) Fortunately, as with the first cancer, it was dectected about as early as it could be.

So, I'm doing well. A little bored because I'm not allowed to do anything for two weeks (one down, one to go). I was hoping to get started on my quilt, but the Percocet and sharp needle don't seem to go well together. I'm also planning to do reconstruction, so pretty soon we can start up with the boob jokes.

I'm doing great, just wanted you to know I'm still here and might be posting some goofy stuff considering the awesome pain meds they have me on. (Where's the drunk on pain meds icon?)

Awwww Amy....(((((((HUGS))))))) Please take care of yourself and don't try to do too much too soon. Wish I were closer to come and help you out during the next couple weeks. My neighbor/friend had a mastectomy and even if I do say so myself I can do a pretty darn good job of washing someones hair...you and the floor might be a little wet....but I clean up after myself. I'm not the best stylist though.

Now ladies...not to turn Amy into a poster child...but get crackin' and make your appointment for your yearly mammogram if you haven't have one. Just had mine on March 31.....I'm very diligent about them because both my mom and sister have had breast cancer.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Gosh! You had such an ordeal. That old monster is a tough beast to kill but you are the warrier woman who is defeating the enemy! Glad you are doing so well and you are entitled to be loopy if you want. We have a few Fruit Loops here so you'll be understood! Seriously, take good care of yourself. Choose what look you want (DD or AA - Dolly or Kelly Ripa) and HEAL!

Loopiness can be quite a mental outlet ya know, so all loopiness is welcome :D
Hope you heal up real quick, I know its not a "short" road by any means,
but my prayers are with you. Will you have to go through the chemo as well?

So sorry you had to go through all this, but I'm glad you're on the mend and will be good as new or even better. With your new "Perks" you won't have to worry about tucking them in your waistband when you get older!

Happy Pills are happy pills ...for many different reasons  Go slow and follow the directions enough not to hurt yourself and break them just enough to be sane.... we will all keep you in your thoughts and besides it is difficult to haul the electrical cords and and the sewer hoses in and out without using your arms associated muscles...... :) Enjoy loopy while you can!

Ah, Amy! (((hugs))) to you and prayers too. So glad it was caught early, no doubt due to your vigilance in getting checked. As others said, if you haven't had your mammogram this year, make that appointment today.

That Percocet is good stuff...I was on it for pain after chemo, so I speak from experience there. Hope you are feeling better and back to your old/new self soon.

Amy, I'm adding my 'big o hug' with the others. Hope you have some help as you recover. I'm sorry you are having to go thru this.
I am very diligent about my mammograms as I lost my maternal grandmother from breast cancer.
Prayers and good wishes are flying from all these wonderful women. Hope you can feel them.
Love you!

Amy, good luck on healing fast. Congrats on catching this quickly and before it got too far along it's path. Best of luck on the upcoming reconstruction. Definitely have you in our prayers. Do take care and don't overdo. Wishing you were here at the coast just basking in the breeze, salt air, and sun shine.

I see that Mitch got you a loopy or two. Pretty good ones, I'd say.

Big hugs to you, Amy. Been there, done that - although only took Ativan which made me lose my memory a little bit; NOW I have something to blame it on  as well as an anti-nausea med. Went thru 2 reconstructions and learned a lot-more than I wanted to know  Would be glad to share info if you're interested. Just pm me. Will keep you in my thoughts. carold

Gentile hugs to you, Amy. Do what the Dr's tell you as far as exercise and when you can do it. Like Tina said, you need those muscles for hauling electric cords and sewer hoses. Sure hope you have someone there to help out. I would if I was closer, as would anyone on the forum. As far as reconstruction, you look pretty small...maybe a small C? Unless of course you're planning on becoming a Pole dancer for a few extra traveling bucks. Then I would suggest bigger...bigger ta-ta's = bigger tips. :D

Get those Ta-Ta's checked girls, and remember that self examination finds more small lumps than mamograms do!
