Beautiful sunrise pics, and as you know, I love sunrises. Very nice of you to pick up trash too. I do that on the trails at Silver River...cigarette butts mostly. Hope the kayaking works out. New member Swissmigrator and I may take ours to a nearby lake this week. Water is too shallow here, and I'm beginning to suffer kayak withdrawal symptoms.

Mitch-thanks for the Google Map training. Did exactly as you said and found the right location. Clicked the street view and I was looking at the same beach scene where Birdie took pictures. Of course, none of the rigs were there but it was really neat to be able to find the exact spot. Birdie, I love your new avatar. It's so nice to be able to put a face to a name. It is a great photo of you. The trash pick-up is a great thing to do. Hopefully the local who saw you doing it will remember the great RVers that stayed on the beach and not just those who don't pick up. Love your great photos.

Looks like a great gtg in spite of the weather. Loved the sunrise photos. Birdie, your new profile pix is great! Glad Carol was able to come down for a few days.

Some more photos of the GTG. These are from Diana, Mtngal. Her system is not cooperating with her desires, so I am posting them for her.

Sunrise and birdrise. Tis really a beauty.

Image

Vicki getting the kite ready. Was a masterpiece and took a little bit of work to get it all ready.

Image

Carol and Karen with the bay in the background. Of course, Ms Sophie wanting to know what's happening!

Image

A nice touch here. Actually a masterpiece, Carol's pink crocks with the pink rocks! :D

Image

Aaahhh! Here is the Dog before it fell into the pit of fire! :o

Image

Here is the crew minus Diana. Sitting around eating, of course.

Thanks Diana for getting such great pics. It has been a great GTG so far.

Diana and I went out to Powderhorn Lake to take a look at putting the kayak into the water. It was a no go. Too many whitecaps, meant too much wind. Could risk a turnover....gator mating going on just now.

We did go into Powderhorn RV Park and inquired about rates and amenities. They have a Rec room/kitchen area, laundry, and shower setup in a silver trailer. They even share the day catch of crabs on Sundays with the residents. Price was $25 a night, $125 a week and $2xx a month with electric extra monthly. They only had 3 spaces available. We decided we could stay there and kayak for a week quite easily.

After that we went to the old Indianola Cemetery. All the markers were in the 1800's. Unfortunately some of them have been damaged and are unreadable. But it was very interesting for a visit.

Came back and had Cowboy Caviar that Diana prepared, and finished that off with lemon cake that Karen "made". Now it is about bed time at the bay.

We haven't decided what excitement we will generate tomorrow. But we will keep you posted.

Did anybody remember to sign the banner before people started leaving? Didn't see that picture.

love the pics you did post, especially sunrise/birdrise and the pink rocks with crocs. The cemetery sounded interesting and would love to be kayaking with you at Powderhorn. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

What is cowboy caviar?

So glad everyone is having a good time. Maybe we can be there for next year.

Hi Port Lavaca Ladies!
Sure wish I was still there
Really sorry to hear it is still too windy to kayak, but you're right - it's gator time, so watch your tootsies

Liz- I did get one pic of Karen singing the banner, but alas, I still don't know how to put them up (totally computer illiterate)

Ali- cowboy caviar is a dip with usually black beans and other veggies.

Liz was so sweet as to send a patio, mat back from Fla. with Birdie, to give away at P.L. The girls gave it to me, my first housing warming gift for the new TT! Thank you Liz, you are a gem!!

Hope you all have a great next couple of days, still a chance to get on the water....

Sharon arrives tomorrow, yea!! Have fun all.

Almost forgot...

The story of the " dog in the fire"

The nite of the fire and snacks I decided to cook some of the Kiolbassa I had. Didn't want to cook inside, as everyone was outside so I pulled out my little Coleman camp stove and set it up. Birdie looks at me and says " you have a perfectly good fire, why not use that" , well DUH! Just so happen to have some Walmart marshmallow sticks in the truck the goods haven't found. Okay so the sausage is cooking just right...almost most ready...one more minute....
Oh crud, it falls OFF the stick into the fire :o
So I have more, off to the trailer to get another and start over. As I am coming back to the fire there's Birdie with my cooked sausage in a paper towel, trying to wipe the ashes off! With a little convincing from Nancy and Diana I ate the first dog, while cooking the second. A little ash is good for digestion, right?

Thanks for telling me what goes into Cowboy Caviar but does anyone have a recipe. I am not very good at conjuring up things wihtout a recipe.

Loved the story of the dog and you are right - a little bit of ash never hurt anyone.

Great pics, y'all! I would love to camp on a beach like that! I remember the pics from last year made me really want to go this year, but my lack of funds prevented it, plus my dislike of hauling so far. Maybe next year, if I learn how to better manage my short funds, and how to like hauling better.....

Thanks so much for posting those great pics! All GTGs are fun, regardless of the weather!

Happy travels!

Just wanted to say 'hi'. I do have internet access but its pretty slow so haven't been posting. Have made Birdie the "official" Port Lavaca poster. The weather has been kind of cloudy and windy and HUMID. I'm a wuss when it comes to humidity. I have a big standing fan that I use when I'm home so last night I plugged it into a 12v converter and yipee - I have cool air. Took me this long to remember that I have THREE coach batteries so running the fan most of night didn't even register on my panel. Lets see, I've had this coach 10 years and I FINALLY learned that. Guess I'm a slow learner.

It has been so nice having all the girls around. Sprinter will be here tonight after work. I'm not a kayaker so I've been reading and walking the dogs and napping. What a life!!

I love watching the pelicans flying in tandem just barely skimming the water and diving for their dinner. Am gonna try and get pictures of that tonight but they're pretty quick.

Birdie and I are going on from here to Galveston Island SP and I'm looking forward to looking for shells. The beach here is pretty much broken shells but nothing interesting.
