SEWER HOSES

Got a "poop" question here. I'm in the market for a new sewer hose setup. At the moment I am using the blue hose that came with the trailer, but we all know those kind usually fall apart after some use. Camping World has Rinoflex on sale right now and I know there are other brands out there. But was wondering what brand most of you use, how has your experience been with different ones etc

Sue....we usually buy the brand at Walmart....the price is right!!! and they hold up fairly well....they all eventually fall apart...but yes, that one at Camping World would be a good choice as it should last you longer....Guess it's a matter of how much you want to spend....

I have 2 kinds -- the regular 3" hose, which I use when using a dump station after a weekend without sewer hookups, and a "Sewer Solution". My friend from TX that I traveled with last summer uses one and it's slick. No moving parts -- all water pressure. And it's easier to manage. You can even use it at home if you've got a sewer pipe (which most houses do, I believe). They're pricey (about $140), but you'll never buy another one.

When we bought our new 5vr two years ago, we got a credit instead of a sewer hose, water hose, etc., at Crestview RV. I initially picked out the sewer hose as it was definitely the most expensive necessary item. While they were doing the set-up, we went over to the Walmart in Buda, TX and looked at RV supplies there. I bought one of their sewer hoses that included two 10 foot lengths, the connection, the elbow that goes into the sewer dump hole, etc. It was the more expensive of the ones Walmart carried but still far less and better than the one in the RV store. It really is pretty sturdy. The RV store let me choose something else for my credit. Unfortunately, the Walmarts I have been to recently seem to be drastically downsizing their RV supplies but it is defintely worth a look. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of the hose set I bought but it is orange and heavy duty.

Seems like I bought the Rhinoflex. Got it at my local Fred Meyer in their small RV section. It's the hose that has the bright orange connectors. I think I paid 19.99 for it.

Yes, I agree that any of the hoses that cost about $20 are gonna last you quite a while. You want to buy the elbow angle piece that fits "loosly" into the sewer hole. I always gently place a heavy "garden stone" over the elbow at the "hole" that I carry just for that purpose...that way the hose won't pop out or blow out. Also, for about $25 I like to have the "Flushking". You attach your hose to it then attach the Flushking to your RV. It's a clear piece that has hose fittings and valves so you can wash back up into your tank to flush out remaining guck. You need to use a "devoted" hose for this and definately not your fresh water hose; it comes with a fitting that you use at the water source to keep any back wash making it's way back to the water spout. I like the FlushKing, it's a great invention. I also do the same thing that others do and that is never put toilet paper down into my toilet....it sounds icky but it isn't. Just use a container that has a lid and put your TP in there instead...you will save yourself any issues by doing that. TP in an RV tank will almost always create an issue eventually that you'd rather not deal with.

I use the Flushking also and I also agree with the statement about TP. I had a problem last year, never again.

As long as I have full connections, I put tp down the toilet. When boondocking or doing with a dump station, I don't. Why? Because I then use less water. If I'm using enough water, there's no problem with the tp. That said, no, it's not a mess to not do it and I boondock so often, that for months at a time no tp, or very little tp, goes into my black tank.

Another comment on sewer hoses - depending on how you store yours can cause it's life to be longer or shorter, also. Mine, in the back bumper thing, will eventually get a hole somewhere - but most of my hoses have been damaged at parks - but the grounds crews. Unfortunately they don't replace them when they do it. So, when I'm workamping, I have a hose that's inside a hard shell - and that solved that problem.

I usually buy my hoses at Walmart. And I prefer to not couple hoses. Most leaks I've seen have happened at coupled connections. But that's just me. So far when I've had full-hookups, my 15 or 20 (not sure what length it is) has always worked.

use a Flushking too. Really like it. The Michigan State Parks have two water sources at our dump stations. One of course is potable water and the other is not. So when I dump my black tank, I hook up the hose to the non potable water source and flush my tank out.

I've seen the sewer hoses at Walmart and forgot to check my Walmart today when I was there. But I agree, they are downsizing in a lot of ways and the RV supplies is one. The Rhinoflex at Camping World has a 4 star rating and is also on sale for just a bit over $27 with all the fittings and extras etc. So will go check both places out eventually.
