OMG, Nancy, you are SOOOO right. As I read the book, and it said, "If the pump runs continuously, there may be a short in the wiring," I thought @%^&! Now I have to take the darned thing back to the dealership AGAIN!!!! But perseverance does pay off. And having written down each thing I did in a sequence, I think I'll have an easier time of it next time! (...she writes while praying, oh please let it all work next time...)

To the rest of you, thanks for all the encouragement. I'm nearly ready to go...bought enough food for a week I think, but I wanted to ensure I had variety so I can play with the convection/microwave. Does it really brown meat? We'll see... And can I really cook up some breakfast rolls in about 9 minutes? We'll see... (and who knows, maybe I'll also find out if the smoke detector works if smoke up the rig!!!)

Speaking of smoke detectors, mine goes off every time I cook. To keep from having to take the battery out every time, I use one of those cheap shower caps motels give away to cover it. If you have to cover yours, just remember to take it off when you finish cooking.

I, too, have been absent a lot from the forum. Noticed your post and was excited to see it. I feel a special bond with you for some reason I'm so excited for you and Foo Foo and your maiden voyage!!! Sounds like you're really getting everything figured out. I, too, set off my smoke detector a lot...even when I use the toaster. I like Martha's idea of covering it with a shower cap I will have to try that! If I plan ahead, usually opening a couple of windows and the kitchen vent and running the fan on the vent (ceiling one) works well. I had a convection/microwave oven in the big diesel pusher, before Myrtle. I loved it! I wish I still had one so I had the option to my propane oven. Where are you going and for how long?

Good luck on your maiden voyage Li. I'll be following your posts. I just got back from my Learning Curve trip, as I like to call it. Wish I had been smart like you and tried to do some things before I left. I just learned along the way, and some times it was really funny too. Lots of "duh" moments and large slap to the forehead! And I did set off the smoke alarm twice so I am glad to learn the shower cap trick. I will definitely try that next trip out. Have a blast and take pictures galore!

HA! I'm ready to travel but not with all three yet! I'm taking the little Kuwaiti terror. Since she thinks everything is a competition with the old girls, I figured I give them a break for the weekend. Habibi will be enough to keep track of to start. And I want her to think of this as a very cool place to go...lots of tuna for a couple of days, and she'll think she went to heaven. And I need to train her to stay away from the doors. She's the runner... so I have to be very certain that I only have to watch her and not the others too.

I ran over to the lot tonight and took a bunch of things and got them all put away. And I lit the refrigerator so it will be cool tomorrow AM. Seems so weird to light a flame to make something cool. I've read about the absorption fridge, but I still don't really get it. It's just one of those things that I have to accept; sort of like geometry...didn't get that either!!

It occurred to me that I may have the netbook cuz I have no connectivity! I have not yet reactivated the wireless card; costs too much to pay for it when I don't need it. So I guess I'll take the Netbook, but I doubt I'll have an connex. We'll see...was thinking of taking the Berry from work so I can at least read my home email but then I'll be reading the work stuff too, and I don't want to do that.

On a different note, I wanted to thank you all for your nice comments WRT the work "situation." But it's funny how many bad things have a silver lining...in the new job, I will be working with three old friends...one in Boston and two in LA. I got two phone calls and one email welcoming me back; I used to work with these folks a few years back and they made me so happy! Perhaps this was meant to happen, eh? Between your supportive notes here and the welcomes from friends...well, I'm looking forward to the new job after all!

I am taking the shower cap; thanks Martha!!! And Linda,I feel that bond too! I will also try the windows, kitchen vent, and front ceiling vent. The super vent is in the "bedroom" but I think it would pull the smoke right over the dectector.
