MARCH WINTER WINTERLAND

We have all been watching and experiencing the events this past weekend of the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan, flooding in NJ, wildfires in OK, tsunamis along our West Coast, the strife in Libya, among other things on our TV's these past few days.

All afternoon yesterday while I watched the drama unfolding on the news, mother nature was busy covering us in another blanket of white. It wasn't supposed to have amounted to much. Maybe a tract to 2 inches. But by nightfall it was all of two inches of very heavy wet snow and it had covered everything in sight, even the individual fence wires in my backyard fence. So when I awoke this morning, it was indeed a winter wonderland out there.

So I grabbed my camera and went out early to capture some of it before the moment was lost.
Although many of us are getting winter weary and waiting for spring to come, after having our minds on oveload from the TV news, I thought I would share with you March's Winter Wonderland.

All of these pictures were taken either in my yard or on the roads right around here.

Yes, I am ready for spring. But it was so beautiful this weekend, the one can forget mom nature and it also brought some much needed late winterbusiness to the hospitality folks up here who have not had a good winter in the past couple of years. With the weather forecast calling for temps in the upper 30's to upper 40's this week, plus some rain in the forecast, I think the snowmobiling season is over for this winter. It ends on the 31st anyway, but there will be no snow left to ride the trails.

But as I posted on Morning Coffee this morning, it's time to start doing spring things. Oh and the ice shanties musbt be off the lakes by midnight tomorrow too.

Such serene landscapes. Snow like that is so pretty. I like looking at it in pictures or through a window beside a roaring fire, but not shoveling or wading through it.
Thanks for sharing. I couldn't quite tell did you take them in black and white? Looking at them again I guess they do show a tiny bit of color in the sky.

Uhhh, not much color in winter in Michigan, so everything is black and white!

One neat thing about new snow is that it reflects light so well that you can easily see in the middle of the night. I have some photos taken outdoors after midnight and you can see several hundred feet away down past my neighbors--looks almost like daylight.

However, all this beauty soon turns to mud and slush, which is why I am going to get out of the cold into the warm weather in a couple of years also. Pretty, but it gets old staying indoors for so long.
