Such a tragedy for that family to lose all but one of their children in that house fire in PA. The mother will probably never forgive herself. Although she was in their barn milking cows when her 3 year old came and told her she smelled smoke, she chose to go after her husband who was a mle away rather than to the house to make sure her children were safe first.

I heard about this on the news, too, Sue. There were 7 children in the house, ages 6 months to 11 years old and the 3 year old was the only one that got out. On the news here, it said the father was asleep in a milk truck. It is so very sad.

The report that came on the news here said the 3 year old had smelled smoke and went to the barn to tell her mother who was milding cows. The mother told a neighbor to call 911 and then went to get her husband who was sleeping in a mild truck a mle away. By the time the parents got back to the house it was too late. Don't know if that's what actually happened or not, but if it did, why did the mother go get her husband rather than ensure the safety of the children first.

Probably panic, as not everyone thinks clearly when in a panic mode. My heart sure goes out to them though. That much loss at one time has to be devastating.

And I wondered why the husband would be sleeping in a milk truck down the road. Did he fall asleep on his way home? COuldn't he have driven that last mile?

A lot of this does not make sense, although I do feel sorry for the family.

Local news reports have the Mom getting a neighbor to call 911, then after trying to get into the house for the kids and failing, went to get the Dad.....and yes, it is very sad.....those old houses are all wood and go up very quickly......although it doesn't say, this area has alot of "Corporate Dairy Farms" where people are hired to do the milking for many cows...tenant dairy farms....where the get a house near their barn of cows for free rent and a salary.....this would be my guess... would be that Dad was also hired to pick up milk in a tanker truck for the "farm" and then deliver it to the "head milk house"....so the nap make sense as he may have been waiting for the milking to be finished then pick up the milk.....just my thoughts on the details of what may have happened that were not printed or told.......No Official report of this part....just a possibility...
