Firefox on a MacBook?

Postby Forestgal » Wed Mar 09, 2011 8:39 pm

Well, I went and did it -- I'm now typing on a MacBook Pro. It's nice, but of course there's a learning curve involved. The most immediate need is knowing how to navigate the internet with something other than IE.

MacBooks come with Safari installed, but I'm not excited about it at all and would rather switch to Firefox. Is that a huge no-no? How would I disable Safari & transfer my bookmarks from Safari to Firefox if I were to switch? What do those of you who own Macs use for your internet browser? What words of wisdom do you have for me as I navigate this whole new world? (I seem to be asking for lots of advice tonight ...)

Thanks!
Laura

I use Safari and have no problem with it. Not familiar with Firefox.

Liz, I'm not having trouble with it, I'm just not real excited about the way it operates. For instance, I can't figure out how to navigate back to to a home page -- or even how to set a home page up on it. Nor can I find any online tutorials on using it. Guess I'm wanting something a bit easier, as I've been pretty stuck in the Dark Ages with IE and AOL.

Edit: I've just done a little reading on both browsers and am going to give Safari a chance. But if anyone can tell me how to navigate back home from a web page I sure would appreciate it. Thanks

My home page is Yahoo, and it appears on the bar just below the url...right next to "Apple." I don't remember if I originally told it to do that or not. But there is a grid of top sites used to the left of the word Apple where it should be found too. Maybe another Mac use can explain it better.

My bar starts with bookmarks on the left, the grid of top sites, Apple, Yahoo, Google Maps, etc.

I usually use Foxfire but also have Safari......I use both of them and have been known to open both, for example, while Safari is being used to upload pics to PB I will be reading posts on the forum using Foxfire.....stuff like that.....

I don't worry about what home page comes up...I just go directly to whatever site I want first.

I have a Mac and use Firefox. Just download the latest version and then go to the search engine you use most. I like Google so I made that my home page. When I click on the little internet icon on the dock Google search page comes up. I like Firefox it catches more popups and junk than IE. I wasn't sure how to make Google my home page so just Googled that question. I Google everything as someone else has usually already had the problem

Good luck with your Macbook, did you get the Apple Care Protection Plan, if not I highly recommend you buy it their service is fantastic and everyone is so nice, also remember you can also get the education discount on the protection plan too.

Welcome to the Mac world. I too use Safari, hadn't even considered installing Firefox. Glad to know that it is a possibility though. I just figure as long as I get to where I want to go, it really doesn't matter to me how I get there.

Have a MacBook Pro also. I use Firefox w/google all the time. Also can use Safari (w/MSN) if I choose. Your Applecare will help you with anything! Give them a call.
