Birdie's hitting the road again

Postby Birdie » Tue Mar 08, 2011 7:01 pm

Well, finished my obligations here in Oklahoma and will be headed south Wednesday morning. The storm made in and out. Here is the information I logged about it.

3:02 p.m. 3/8/2011 - log on

Wow, storming here in SE Oklahoma. A little bit of wind, okay, not enough to rock the rig, but enough that I can see where the rain is blowing sideway on the windows. Now, Hail, Hail, the gangs all here. Okay, no gang just hail ranging in size from pea size to slightly larger than grapes. (Weather service would say, near dime to quarter size - they like coins and are therefore quite restricted in descriptions.) Now comes the rain, can’t see but about 1/8 of a mile. Okay now a little lighter rain. So tornado warning number 43 is active right now and until 9 pm. Need to look out and observe. Observed primary cloud passed over. Onset of upgrade risk for this little spot has passed. Oops changed data to golf ball size hail and winds up to 70 mph. Looks like it is trekking off east of us with some stuff south and southwest. Pour down rain is now nice sprinkle.

That really was an intense 25 minutes.
3:25 p.m. over - log off

Good thing I went over to the cemetery earlier this afternoon. I did hear it thunder and left because I didn’t want to get wet. I am a wimp.

Well ladies, I will be on the road again tomorrow. I do plan to leave by 8 am in the morning. Had planned to hook up this evening and just have to pull the power cord in the morning. But if I needed to jump in the car and head to the storm shelter, I’d need the car. So didn’t hook up. Still want to leave early. I have places to go and things to do and birds to see. Beautiful sunset out there.

I'm glad you didn't get any damage, Birdie. Stay safe on the road and check in when you can. Are you headed to the coast?

And knowing you as little as I do, you'll enjoy each and every one/thing/bird/sunset out there!

Travel safe.

Stay safe my friend and drive safe. Are you headed my way? I'm leaving here April 1st to Golliad SP for two nights then on to Port Lavaca. Wanna meet me at Goliad?

Drive safe. I'm thinking you'll almost be back on the schedule you had set for yourself. Don't hurry yourself there - the birds will wait for you.

Whew...I'd have been a little nervous when the hail went from grape to golf ball....no dents in your rig or car? Hope you have fair skies and warming temps for traveling. Go find yourself a life bird.

Glad to hear you're safe and sound, Birdie! But what a horid experience that storm must have been! May it pass far north of us here in sunny FL. Happy trails and dry roads from now on!

Looks like I will not be able to make Port Lavaca after all and I was really looking forward to that too. My son called and asked me to come to Denver for two weeks. I haven't gotten to see them too much due to moves with the Marines and my granddaughter will be out of school for those particular weeks so don't see how I can miss that opportunity. Darn. If you are coming back to Potters Creek, maybe we can still meet up before the end of March.

I wish you safe travels and some time to rest and reflect.
