Lola is finally home!! (photos added)

Postby BarbaraRose » Thu Mar 03, 2011 10:39 pm

Miracles of all miracles! I finally got Lola to come inside my apartment tonight!

I went out to go to the store and she came running when she saw me, so I went back up to get her some good canned food and went back down to her. I gave her a small spoonful and then gradually got her to follow me up the stairs with little bits of food. I had left my door open so I just backed up into my apartment and she followed me inside. I slowely closed the door behind her! She got a little freaked out and ran into the living room meowing like crazy, and then settled down behind the overstuffed chair (where I had already put a new bed for her, knowing she would feel safe back there). I set up her litter box and food and sat quietly. She meowed for awhile and then I leaned over the back of the chair, softly saying her name and put my hand down to her. She brushed up against it and I started petting her. She loved it and purred loudly! I am really hopeful that this will work out! I have Sophie locked in the bedroom for now (she spends most of her time in there anyways).

We will just have to be careful when we open the front door to make sure she doesn't try to escape, until she decides she likes it better in here than outside. I can't believe I got her inside finally! So excited! Yay!!! Will keep you updated on her progress!

Update ...looks like she is going to be a lap cat! She is still a bit skittish but she came out and jumped up in my lap and layed down while I petted her and she purred and wanted more! I think she is already liking this new life! I am glad I was able to build up her trust over the past two months. She smells like oil from hiding under cars, and she is very dirty and has a couple of really large matts in her "bib" that will probably have to be shaved off, but I will wait awhile before I do anything like that, including clipping her very sharp nails!

Now I just hope the two cats will get along or at least tolarate each other. I won't introduce them for at least several days, if not longer, until Lola gets more relaxed and comfortable around here. She still has to meet my roommate tonight. I have tomorrow off from work so I will be able to spend the whole day with her to make sure she is adjusting well.

Barbie, I am so happy for you! I've been watching your posts about Lola before I became a member here and am elated that she is inside with you. I hope she slept well her first night home.

Lola is such a lucky cat to have you patiently caring for her! What a great little family you are building :)

Lola met my roommate last night and it took all of 2 minutes before she was asking for attention from her! My roommate was very impressed! We both figured she would be very scared and unapproachable for quite awhile. Not so! She even rolled over for a tummy rub last night! She slept in her bed and has been very sweet today, following me around everywhere. She is very talkative too! I even got her to play with one of Sophie's toys. I am so amazed and delighted!
I need to go out today and get some flea stuff and earmite drops for her. I know she has ear mites. My roommate figures she probably has fleas too, but I have only seen her scratching her ears so far.
Will take some pics of her today.

Oh, What wonderful news. So glad that she survived her bout outside and decided it was time to come home with you. I'm happy for you (and her!)

That's just wonderful! I'm so happy for all of you! And the fact that she's making her presence know is a very good sign. She knows she is home and that she's got her "kitty mom" back in her life. How great... :D :D :D

I'm so glad she is doing so well. It sure sounds like she has decided she likes being a house kitty again. I hope all goes well with the introduction to your other kitty.

So far, so good! Lola has made no attempt to go toward the outside door at all. She just wants to be on my lap and get her belly rubbed!
Also I let the two cats "meet" each other today and so far just an occasional hiss and growl but nothing else. Keeping my fingers crossed!
