Luxury Boondocking.

Postby Sparkle » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:33 pm

How about a well lighted, secure site, paved, with Full hookups, Water, Sewer and Power - free! I'm at Suncoast RV off I-65 in Alabama. I went to http://www.freecampgrounds.com and clicked on Alabama and got a list. This one is only a little over 100 miles from where I started, but I was intrigued. It sounded too good to be true. But here I am! They have set aside 22 sites, seperate from the sales area. People getting their rigs worked on stay as long as they need to, people off the road are only supposed to stay one night, but they don't say anything if you stay two.

Now, that's great for if you've been on the road, need a night and place to dump - I love finding those places, and am surprised more rv places don't have them - as they'd get our business easier, now, wouldn't they. I know you can stay at Camping World's but only some of them have hookups.

Doesn't sound like you got far enough south for Bogie to be much warmer tonight. :P
Sounds like a good place to try out anyway.

Kimberly, I don't know where you pulled up this 2009 post by Sparkle. Perhaps you were trying to be helpful in responding to this post ... but you may not know that Sparkle passed away a few months ago.

Oh, I am soooo sorry to hear that. Truth is, I was just poking around the forum looking for helpful information and her post really is a tremendous help to me. So, thank you Sparkle! Perhaps she led me to it.

I am sure she is missed by so many. Sorry for anyone for which my post brought up sadness.

It did bring up a smile. :) And she was/is right. A wonderful resource that should not be forgotten. (That could go for the website or Sparkle herself :) ) Most of us are expecting her to lurk around and continue to participate in her own way.

I for one love reading some of Sparkles old posts. That gal had spunk AND I want to be just like her...sigh. I have the best memories of a lady I never had the privilege to meet in person . She had a wealth of stories.

Pull up old posts as much and as often as you find something useful. That's what having a forum with saved info is all about. I wish more people would use the search feature and find things - that IS a very good site and one to remember. I think I may have found this wonderful location many of us have been boondocking in FL at this winter on it.

(And Sparkle is smiling down that she's not been forgotten :) )

I don't use the search much because allot of the times the info I'm looking for is embedded in a post on a totally different subject and I get frustrated trying to find it. Also repeating some questions brings up even more input and also seems to encourage newcomers to participate. JMHO
