Pictures from Oklahoma

Oklahoma panhandle from Liberal, Kansas, Highway 64 east, then Hwy 11 to Medford, Oklahoma. Two lane highways all the way which was a very nice change from freeways. However, it was raining pretty hard and semis barreling down toward me at 65 MPH splashed water up pretty good—pretty scary in places—had to make sure I turned the wipers on full-force in order to see. You don’t get that on freeways very much.

Here I am parked at a picnic area along the road. They have lots of these – no real rest areas, so was glad for the RV bathroom.

From Kansas – Hwy 81 N from Oklahoma, then 166 east to Coffeyville.

Cheapest gas the whole trip in Caldwell, Kansas. However, I had just filled up about 30 miles away.

Probably could have taken a lot more pictures, but it was raining pretty hard--and windy--most of the day. And, I was in a hurry to finish the last 340 miles from Liberal, KS to Coffeyville. Pictures from Independence and Coffeyville, KS tomorrow (or tonight, if my connection behaves).

I love your pictorial journey. And I absolutely love the historical signs that give such great information. I take pictures of them, too! You might have been in a hurry, but you still took time to "stop and smell the roses" - in this case, stop and see things of interest on the way. That, to me, is what travelling the way we do is all about. And sometimes when I'm really in a hurry to get somewhere, I don't do that - then I'm disappointed in myself. Watching your posts and pictures, reminds me of just how I like to travel. Thanks so much for that - and for these great pictures. I look forward to the next ones.

Chris, I have thoroughly enjoyed your travels, from the ruins all the way to Oz. A little west of you, is the "Little House on the Prairie". Liz and I, were there a couple of yrs. ago, we have done most of those sites, the best being in Mansfield, Mo. Thats where Laura lived with Almanzo and wrote all of her books.

I don't know how we missed Land of Oz, being so close, will have to catch it next time. Looks as if we really missed a lot in that area. Thanks for the trip, I just got home, from a trip through those states, just a different route, so I really enjoyed your trip. There is so much to see and do in that area, please keep us posted.

Carol,
I feel that way about just about everywhere I've been - I see somethings, and then others say "did you go there" or "did you see this" or I read about someone's travels here and wonder how I missed what they've just posted about.

Here's a link to the Little House on the Prairie official website: http://www.littlehouseontheprairie.com/

It's on my list of places to go - I've been to where she lived in MN at one time.

Sigh. I have gas (price) envy. Maybe those "2"s will make their way west. Thanks for the great photos. Felt like I was right with you. Saw all that rain and wanted to put my jacket on. :D

Thanks for the Link, Beth. LIz and I, have been to 3 of the sites. Very interesting, and I really recommend the Mo. site as she has items from all of her family in the museum there. Its so informative and also two homes to visit. We spent all day there. In Kansas, that was special too, I still watch all the shows, that are supposedly when they lived in that area.

I just got home and I come in the door and I am ready to be gone again. I am so looking forward to our trip to Tx. Liz and I, are planning several days to get there, and visit a couple of places. She wants me to plan the route, but she does a much better job with that then I.

So looking forward to finally meeting you.

What a fun journey. I'm with Beth, no matter how much I think we've covered an area-up pops some more places. Always a reason to keep on trekking. carold
