DOG SITTING SATURDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

DOG SITTING SATURDAY

Postby Colliemom » Sat Feb 26, 2011 7:28 am

Good MorningWomen RVers,

How is everyone thing mornng? The last weekend of February. The last month of winter in the north country is about to start :) Although March can dump us with some big snows and nasty weather, the days grow warmer, the snows start melting, Frost Laws take effect etc. March is actually my least favorite month of the year though. Probably cause it is a big teaser and also petty windy. I am always glad to see it leave.

Well, the girls and I have started into our month long doggie sitting session. I don't know as yet if it will work out. Yesterday he was doing pretty good, snooping around the house and going in and out. But since last night he has withdrawn into my breezeway and is laying on the old quilt I gave him. My two are not bothering with him although Tessa has gone to see him a couple of times, but Sassy is avoiding him. She seems to be a bit nervous with him around. Hangng by me a lot. This morning when I went down to check on him, he snapped at me. So I think I have a very nervous, confused dog here. He's eating his bood though. So we shall see how it goes over the weekend. If he doesn't seem like he is going to come around or snaps at me again, I am going to call my neighbor who dog sits and had hm the last time they went south and see if she can take him again. He did very well over there as she has smaller dogs (doxies). We were trying this out to see how it works cause it would be some extra trip money for me, and my neighbor had fallen and fractured her hip late last fall, so we didn't know if she was dog sitting again or not. I have since found out she is. But my friend told me that if it doesn't work out, just call Phyllis or take him up to the kennel where she was going to leave him. Trip money or not, my fingers are more important and so are my girls.

Had about an inch of snow last night and supposed to get some again tonight. This looks like it might be heavier amounts tonight . But tomorrow night is the big story up here as there is another storm coming and this one may bring some heavy icing to this part of the state along with high winds. So they are warning of the potential of downed trees and power lines etc. Stlll watching it to see for sure. Then some snow behnd it, but if it shifts one way or other, it will make a differnce in precip. As I said, getting into March.....

So this morning I am going into town, get a prescription refilled and mabye get some milk. Don't really need anythng else. Then come home and putter around. Will take girls for a walk. Probably leave Finn here for now till he comes around.

Have a great day all.

Good morning Sue and all,

It's a foggy start to a beautiful day here at Blue Cypress Lake where Birdie, Beth and I are having yet another FL GTG.
Image

Today plans are to go with Beth to Fort Pierce to the farmer's market & other things to see. Then some birding perhaps, and kayaking later this weekend.

Later next week the party will be over for me...must take care of the business of moving out of my house, and Birdie and Beth will be moving on too.

Hope everyone has a day as blessed as ours, and stay safe and warm those in the paths of storms.

What a nice picture Liz... looks like one to frame and put up on a wall... you ladies have a great day... sounds like a time of mixed emotions and anticipation for you Liz... moving and saying good bye to a house you lived in can be hard...
I finished with the pins yesterday... now will wait to get the sewing machine out till sometime next week... I need to vacuum and clean things up around here... so much dog hair!!! I think we all can relate to that...
I did not make pumpkin spice coffee this morning it is decaf and I need a little boost... Jere bought me a lot of different kinds of coffee that he had for his wife before she died... guess he does not like it much... he sent a hippy picture of him that someone took on the trail... he is having a great time walking through the trails... Good morning ladies
certainly won't get anything done today outside, its just too cold and the weather report
is STILL saying possible snow in the valley starting later tonight. Will make a trip to the
store to load the electric card and make sure we have plenty to run heaters etc. Today
I go to work for a full shift rather than my dinner relief shift. It will be extra hours for
this week. Got a nice Thank You card from one of the investors at Blue Sky, came
complete with a $100 bill. :D Will definitely make a trip to the bank when it
opens.
Sue, what does Frost Laws intail? We don't have those here and didn't in Colorado either
so I have no clue what it means except if I were talking to children I'd say don't walk on
the frosty grass cause you'll kill it.
Have a good day ladies and enjoy.

Frost laws: when the ground begins to thaw it is very unstable; large vehicles are restricted from driving on certain roads until they become stable again...
Sue may have a different explanation...

Gggggood morning!
We are freezing here in the PNW. Breaking all kinds of records for the lowest daytime highs!! We never got out of the 20s yesterday!

Liz, love the morning foggy picture and echo what Kathleen said about your next adventures and also Beth and Birdie's.

Got my tax refund this AM! Woohoo! Makes the bank account look a bit more healthy, for now, at least.

Talked to the Keybank manager again yesterday. Now he says he should have some answers by Monday!?!? What a joke! I have never liked Keybank and now I know why. No one seems to know what the other is doing, no working in unison, or so it seems! Grrrr!! Patience, Lenora, patience!

Sue, be careful around your dog visitor. He is just not understanding and scared, poor guy. Hope he comes around.

Ava, wow, love getting mail with cash inside!! You deserve it! Enjoy!

Kathleen, how is your shoulder today?

GOOD MORNING ALL!

I see that it was right around zero degrees at home in the north country, and it's already in the 80s down here, with a gentle breeze. I moved to St. Cloud yesterday afternoon, and found my little trailer comfy, clean, and feeling like a long lost friend....I miss staying out in it back in the city. However, my pool is caling to me from back in Orlando now! I discovered there is a community rec center in St. Cloud, and I plan to take a trip over there today to check that out, if the nice, white sandy beach is too low for swimming. There is a huge pool at the rec center.

And where is the hippy pic of your friend, Jere, Kathleen???? Would love to see that! Anything smacking of hippiness always interests me!

Beth, Liz, and Birdie are having another little meeting at that beautiful campsite, but I am going to stay here and find me a place to swim. At least I know where I can haul for a very short time to get to a beautiful spot that is close to here, at Blue Cypress Lake. Another time it will be for me, as I am too lazy to pack, stow, hitch, haul, BACK up park, unhitch, unpack, unstow, level up, and repeat the entire process in a couple of days! Better to go back there in another month when I can have another two-week free stay! Happy camping, you three, and think of me.

Off I go to enjoy the sun and find a place to swim down here.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Nope Kathleen, you summed it up perfectly. I need not add anything more to it. I suspect that those notices will be posted in the not to distant future. That to me is a sure sign that spring is coming.

As to my furry guest, he is doing okay. After I got dressed and made my bed etc. he was ready to go outside and from then on he has been in the house here, monkeying around with me, Doing a little playing even. Right now he is laying by my feet, chewing on a rawhide ring. It's a matter of adjustment. He still keeps an eye on the door in my breezeway where his "mommy" left. I was in my jammies and robe this morning, so probalby another little upset for him. Who the heck is she. Tessa has been making some advances to him, so maybe they will strike up a friendship.

Got sticker shock when I drove into town this morning, to find out that gas is now $3.45 a gallon here :o It's still within the budge I set to go to Lori's GTG in Gettysburg. But if it tops $4 before I leave, I will have to canel out. The expense of that trip for just 4 days will be pretty steep considering the numbers of miles I have to drive and gas. But we shall see what happens.

Well get ready for higher gas prices.....its $3.89 here today...WOW went up 10 cents in just 24 hours. Glad my MH is FULL. At least I know I can get home here from the coast this summer.

Going home to my stick house on Wednesday but just taking the SUV.....not cheap but 24mpg beats 7 any day.

As long as I can still afford food, well at least dog food :) , I am traveling! Maybe not as far or for as long but I am planning to continue to travel. I will sit and read a good book when I run out of travel funds. :)

Light snow here in Southeastern Michigan.

When the ground begins to thaw, all of the moisture that was in it becomes liquid, so what was solid ground turns to mud. Eventually, it all dries up, but in the meantime roads, even major paved and asphalt ones, cannot support the loads they used to, so they put up signs restricting weight on trucks, etc. A practical effect of that is that road construction cannot begin until the soil gets more stable because the large equipment cannot be moved and you cannot haul cement and gravel.

The joke in Michigan is that we have two seasons: winter and road construction. And it is the truth. Construction of all kinds has to be done in a fairly narrow window.

I grew up in a suburb of Detroit where we had gravel side roads. That meant that once a year, even with all the gravel on them, the roads turned into mud pits, and often, for a few days, you had to park at the corner and walk in! My girlfriend and I had very laid-back parents, and one of my high school memories is calling her dad at 2:00 am one morning because we had gotten stuck in a muddy road dropping a kid off after a basketball game and pizza. He got out of bed, and cheerfully came with a truck and tow chain.

So, around here, March is mostly muddy.

Yep Judy, remember that well too. Our road in St. Clair Shores near Detroit where I grew up got like that. There is a lot of clay down in that area and boy when it's mud, you get STUCK good.

As to the road construction joke, the other one is that orange barrels are Michigan's official State Flower.

You are right. You folks up north have mostly sand--but we have all clay. Really miserable to plant anything in. I remember using a pick to dig a hole for a tree. I have always said that my next house will be on sand, with no clay in sight!! And it takes a lot longer to dry up--good and bad.

My son lives in Ohio on a glacial moraine, so he has sand and lots and lots of gravel. In fact, most of his lawn is gravel because he didn't put any top soil on it. Just threw some seed out, even though I warned him.

Now the roads around here are all paved, so getting stuck is much less of a problem!
