Hello from Houston!

Come on in and say hello.

Hello from Houston!

Postby scottiemom » Wed Feb 23, 2011 7:21 am

New member here. My husband and I are fulltimers, going on our sixth year. Our only goal each year is to stay south of I-10 in the winter and find some place cool in the summer! We generally winter in the Rio Grande Valley because my aging parents stay there in the winter. We try to be available for them. This winter, however, we are in Houston as my husband is being treated at MD Anderson. In the summer we are in/out of Indiana, where we used to live. We own rentals in the Goshen/Elkhart area and do any maintenance, etc., during the summer. While there, we stay at Elkhart Campground.

We have an 06 Tiffin Phaeton and I do a lot of the driving. I enjoy it. We started our travel adventure with our two Scottish Terriers. Fortunately, they loved RVing and lived long lives, but they are gone now. They were rescues, as have been all my dogs, and at some point we will rescue again. But with current health challenges, we feel now is not the time.

We do a lot of sightseeing, we walk daily, and ride bikes. We enjoy historical sites around the U.S. and are using our time in Houston to explore the city and this area of Texas. Many of our best friends are fellow RVers we have met along the way. We also use our lifestyle to reconnect with friends and family. Here in Houston, I have a cousin I hadn't seen in years who is keeping our social calendar full, and my husband's college roommate is here. He was best man at our wedding almost 40 years ago and we just saw him last week for the first time since then.

This next winter we will be spending time in Florida where our son lives. He is getting married in November and we plan to be there early to help with the preparations. What fun!

I enjoy reading all the posts from others. I am not a frequent poster on any forum, but contribute when I think I have a worthy opinion or information of benefit to others.

Hi Dale and Welcome! I'm always so happy to see the women in the married couples who share or do the driving. It's happening more and more and I think it's wonderful. I usually spend winters in TX or AZ, but spent this one in FL and have been loving it. Hope you enjoy next year here as much as I've been enjoying this year. There is no rule that someone has to contribute daily (some do, several times a day). Some only contribute occasionally. But we are all family and do like to hear the different views and points - it really does make for informed decisions, especially because we all do things differently and for different reasons. Please feel free to jump in where ever you feel comfortable. And hopefully we'll see you and hubby at a gtg in the future. If you boondock, there's one not far from you the beginning of April in Port Lavaca - they'd love to have you! Check out the gtg (get together) room for all the details.

Another Texan giving you a great big WELCOME, Dale. Glad you joined up. I'll be dropping south and pass thru Galveston. Will check to see if it is possible to meet for a coffee somewhere that would be convenient for both of us. Just not sure of the time right now. If I don't have time, I'll blow thru on I-10 and will honk one at you in that mess you guys call downtown. Hope we can make a connection. I'd like to wish the best of luck to you and your hubby and will put your hubby on my prayer list for good healing medical care. MD Anderson is a top notch treatment center.

So Dale, just jump in whenever you wanna do it.

Welcome to our forum, Dale. Sounds like you have really enjoyed your full-timing lifestyle. I've been a summer Rver, but just sold my FL home and will now be full-time. Meeting up with your best man reminded me of my chance to reconnect with a cousin in OR last summer...I hadn't seen him since we were kids 50 years ago. (He turned into his father  )

I too will keep your hubby in my prayers as he undergoes treatment. Check in here often, it's a great escape from the day-to-day.
