Luxury problems ...

Postby Getupngo » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:05 pm

I'm feeling whiny, but I have to realize that 90% of my problems are luxury problems. To wit:

Trying to plan trips this time of year is like threading a needle. I'm trying to find a clear weather window to get from Salt Lake City to the Oregon coast on my way northwest. Originally I was going to leave on Wednesday ... but a snowstorm is rolling through. As the forecast for Monday and Tuesday is clear, I decided on an earlier Monday launch.

But the Escape Capsule is in the shop awaiting a part for a refrigerator recall. The part was supposed to be delivered today. Now they say Monday. Sigh. So .... I've got to wait. And wait.

Oh, wah! A three-month trip in my paid-for motor home is delayed a few days. Oh, woe is me!

Second example: The national park wants me to provide my own trousers ... so I went to a uniform shop and bought a beautiful brown pair, hemmed for my stumpy little legs. Got home, read the volunteer guide, which told me I need GREEN pants. #!$&% So I went back and now have some great, perfectly fit olive green cargo pants. Oh, poor beleaguered me.

Well, that's as whiny as I'm going to be today. All told, these are all luxury problems.

   I know the feeling. I was in the same boat earlier when I was thinking of going down to the FL GTG in Silver River, but no clear window, a winterized and wrapped up TT etc. stopped me.

I too have to provide my own uniform pants. So last spring I bought my usual pairs of Dickies Khaki pants. Well, last year the Gov. merged the Depts. of Natural Resources and Enviromental Quality together. So they said we could change into the new unifom of GREEN pants and Khaki shirts or stay the same. Our staff voted to stay the same for last year and change over this year. The new Gov. broke the depts back up into seperate departments again, so who knows what the uniform will be. Maybe going back to the KHAKI pants and green shirts again

Sure sounds like a good Pity Party time to me, and we all know how much we need these occassionally! I say any excuse for a party and some dancing in the rains! So....please pass the wine and goodies! Let the dancing begin!

RATS. I lost a post. Let's see how well I can reconstruct it.

Thanks ladies for all the "suggestions" for dealing with my luxury-problem stress.

My trip has been delayed -- again -- at least five days ... 4 inches of snow today, more to come.

I've been planning my trip using accuweather.com, and then discovered its extended forecasts are WILDLY different from those on NOAA.com (the National Weather Service). Accuweather said Tuesday and Wednesday would be fine to travel from Salt Lake City to Boise ... NOAA says snow snow snow.

I need a two-day clear-weather window at the beginning of my trip. That will get me to Oregon, where I wouldn't care if I was snowed / blowed (read: windy!) in for a day or two.

My itinerary is this: First night, Mountain Home, ID and the second night in Stanfield OR. The third night will be in Olympia, WA -- where I hope to have a mini-GTG with Marda {WickedLady} -- then on to Anacortes. There, I will board the ferry early the next morning. I hope to be all set up drinking tea at the national park by 1 p.m.

The first three legs of the trip are just under 300 miles -- my preferred driving time -- with the last being a short day, just about 140 miles. Life is good.

This delay may have one upside ... a friend who couldn't meet my earlier schedule may now be able to join me on the way there, then fly home. She and I were PR partners in crime (me at the state tax commission, her the IRS) and we would travel the state during tax season doing call-in radio programs. We travel well together, and she and I just laugh laugh laugh.
