My Floating Vacation

Well, I made it to Lake Casitas before the rain really began coming down, and am very thankful for my little, watertight Hideout. :) I've got a little electric heater running and we're nice and toasty, but there's definitely major puddles just outside the door & somehow I'm going to have to convince Jed that he really does need to go potty. It's supposed to get worse before it gets better, but things should taper off by sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Janice, I had to laugh at your post about luxuries and whining. It took me less than 20 min. to get unhitched, stabilized, and hooked up to water and electric, but it took another HOUR to get my portable satellite dish to work properly so I could watch TV here in the rain. Talk about determination! I was thoroughly soaked by the time I got everything working and had to hang stuff in the shower (note to self: need some more hooks in the tub area). But since I'm here until Monday I was determined to get the blasted thing to work.

So now I think I'll microwave some of the homemade soup I brought along, and maybe even make some hot chocolate.

I love my little mobile vacation home!

And I'm so happy (and envious) for you! Good job on the satellite! You got some major cajones to get it working under those circumstances.
Wish I was there with the Mobile Marlin - I'd buy you a drink.
Enjoy your weekend.

I can't believe how much I enjoy being out in my little Hideout. I may end up getting a little stir crazy if the whole weekend is going to be wet, but at some point I'll just suck it up and Jed & I will go for a walk.

I seemed to have brought enough food to last for a month instead of the 3 days I'll be here, but it'll help keep me occupied -- deciding what to eat since I have so many choices! I even brought cinnamon rolls to bake if I want. :)

This campground doesn't have wi-fi so I'm using my Droid X as a mobile hotspot and it's working famously. Makes me really, really happy to know that I can get away and still stay connected if I want.

Now my newest "challenge" is getting my satellite box's remote control to talk to the TV in the trailer. Hopefully it won't be a big deal ... but I can live with 2 remotes if need be. ;)

Oh, the trials and tribulations of "camping"!! ;)

Laura, you must have lost your signal when we were chatting on FaceBook, but I'm glad you and Jed have a chance to get away for the long weekend. Hopefully "the sun will come out tomorrow, tomorrow, it's only a day away." (or something like that) be glad you can't hear me singing it!!

Glad to hear you and Jed are having fun in your nice comfy, dry, warm Hideout, Laura! Hearing somebody rave about it, it makes me aopreciate mine just that much more. Let's hope the sunshine comes out for you!

Laura, I am so envious of you being able to get out and enjoy "camping" with all the modern conveniences. Makes you wonder how the early campers ever survivied  Actually maybe it's more just the "camping" period as I'm stuck here in cold and snow and pining to get out there. :) But I hope you have a great time despite the weather. Know just how you feel. Every trip I went on last year but one, I had rain sometime along the line. One trip it rained so hard that I was beginning to be in a little lake. The water was running under the trailer and under my awning. Had to sit at the picnic table with my feet up. And the girls abandoned me for the inside of the trailer  Have fun.

Have fun Laura and Jed. And good job getting the satellite up and going. We have to use two remotes for our TV with DirectTV but it is okay with us. Just thankful to have TV.

What type of satilite system do you have? What do you use to set it up?

Carolyn, I have Direct TV at home & just bring a box from there with me. I bought a Winegard portable satellite dish and really don't have trouble setting it up. One of the guys taught me a little trick that works well -- assuming that I've got it hooked up properly.

There's another type of portable satellite that's supposed to be a no-brainer to set up, but it costs about $400. The portable dish is $100. And for the amount of time that I use it it wasn't worth the extra $$.

Laura, you do have cajones for struggling with the dish in the rain. Me? I'd have fished out one of my dozens of DVDs and settled in for the duration of the rain.

But your TT looks cozy ... the room slides make SO much differences in making the living space comfy.

I, too, have Direct TV at home in the Adirondacks, and bought me one of those protable satellite dishes. I think I tried asking you once before how you get the signal zeroed in on it, but I can't remember how to do it. What is the little secret someone taught you? I have had no need for it here in St. Cloud or anywhere I've been down here in FL as I can get myriads of free HD channels over the air with my trailer antenna, but, at some point, like when I get home and do any boondocking, it would be good to know how to use this. Especially since I am still paying for this extra receiver!
