Which GPS?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and am not real happy with its accuracy. What do you guys use?

Last month I bought the Garmin 265 WT NUVI. I bought it to use in my RV, but have used it in place of the built in GPS that's in my Honda Pilot because of it's 'user friendliness".
I used it last week in my RV to find a garage to get my rig's steering checked out and it worked well enough. I do wish the voice would come on a bit sooner at the turns. She says, "take the next right turn" about 30 ft before I need to turn, so I did miss a couple turns and had to detour. Before that she only warned when I'm within 1/4 mi of the turn. Perhaps there's a setting to have warnings in closer increments?

I also have a TomTom. She came in handy in Canada when I needed to find a service ctr. in Calgary. Like Beth, I check my route & directions on a map too, and don't always agree with the route Tomasina wants me to take.

I have a Garmin 1490 but have only used it on 2 trips. I loved the lane assist going to San Antonio on the interstate. For some reason on that trip I had to keep moving the screen because it wouldn't show where I was. The instructions that came with it leave something to be desired for a dummy like me. I haven't messed with it much to figure out all that it does. I used it going to my sister's and didn't agree with the route it wanted me to take. That is a trip I have made many time.

I have a TomTom too, but never really used it until the TN trip. Now we've used it quite often and it does tell us several times which lane to get in and which way the turn is going to be. Ronnie enjoys telling "her" to "Shut Up Tomasina!", LOL.

Today, I was going to argue with Tom. Sparkle was following me to the rv service place. It was a really short drive, but I gave Tom the address, even though I had looked it up on a map. Well, Tom took me PAST the street the rv service place was on. I followed Tom out of curiosity more than anything. Guess what? Had I turned on the street I would NOT have been able to turn into the service center. Tom took me around so I could turn in from the right (only way in).

Well, that would have worked if I hadn't driven past - then had to turn around, then couldn't turn left in, then had to go turn around again. But had I really followed Tom exactly and turned into the right driveway - would have been right. Hate to admit when he's right and I'm wrong

I have a Garmin Nuvi 780, his name is Jarvis. I bought him a year and a half ago. I am in love with him , he always (well mostly) gets me where I want to go and never talks back.

OK, this is an old thread, but I am thinking that instead of a netbook, which is not really a necessity right now, that I really need a GPS a lot more, so thought I would start this up again...
Besides those who have already posted on here, what do the rest of you use and like/dislike about yours GPS? I need one that is user-friendly and easy to figure out. (I am technologically challenged! ).

Barbie, they all work very similarly - just some have more bells and whistles than others. You wouldn't need the ones that some here like - as they are using them to find truck routes, etc for their larger rv's. Probably just about any of them would work for you - if you learn how to use it

Barbie, I have a Garmin GPS that has 2009 maps downloaded into it that you can have for 50.00. I bought a new one last year because this one doesn't have lane assist. You don't really need the lane assist driving a car, comes in real handy in an rv. Let me know. You should still have my phone number, I'll be around until Sat, then gone for 10 days.

I have a tom-tom, and really like it. When I update my maps it's accurate. Where I live there has been a lot of new construction (read: roads) and so I have to wing it sometimes.

I now have the Garmin truck GPS, 465T and find that it is more accurate than the other GPS that died on me. Don't know why, but it acts like it. It does have lane assist which is great. Too you can switch between truck and car. Nice that you can put your rig information into the system and then it will alert you to bridges that you can't travel on or under.

I really miss the large actually 5" screen on the other GPS. But hey I can deal with all of this stuff. When I travel to a destination, I normally will use Microsoft Street and Maps as well as the big Road Atlas, to be sure of where I want to go. Good luck in your search Karen.

I own a Magellan® Maestro™ 4350. I am still learning all about it. I have had it over a year, but just started using it in the last 6 months or so. It is the first one I have owned, so I can't compare it to others. I do find I don't agree with its directions at times. I still use my atlas.

I have always had Garmins. The problem with them is the maps outdate rather quickly as they are usually a year old when you buy the "new" Garmin. This isnt usually a problem unless you have new overpasses or new housing developments you are going to. The Garmin is very easy to use.

I tried the GPS out on my new DroidX phone and it is fantastic. It is totally current AND I can speak to it..."Navigate to xxxx"...AND it does LOL I'm not ready to give up my Garmin but I wont be buying a new one for sure. I bought a dock for the phone and it sits attached to the windshield just like a Garmin would. (I have the beanbag mount for my Garmin ). Just thought I would let you know how smart my Smartphone really is....and I am still fairly dumb with it but I'm getting there LOL
