WEDNESDAY NUMBER ONE IN FEBRUARY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

BLOWING, SNOWY WEDNESDAY

Postby Colliemom » Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:50 am

Good Moorning from the Frozen North,

Bit of a blow here at the 45th this morning. But we are nothng compared to what's going on elsewhere. This storm is really somethng. I was watching the news and weather last night and it's really a monster out there. I hope all of you who are in this storms impact areas are doing okay. No tornadoes, power outages etc., keeping safe and warm in your homes till it's over. Funny thing about it, was watching the weather forecasts for this week, nothing was said about a big storm and all of a sudden this big thing comes roaring out of the southwest.

As for me here, I live way up in the upper part of the lower peninsula, about 75 miles from the Tip of the Mitt as it's known. We were completely out of all warnings, watches etc. as of last night but they finally put a Winter Weather Advisory out. The fine line between who was even getting snow and who was not, kept fluncuating and eventually moved north of me about 40 miles. Our forecast caalled for 3-6 inches of snow. Now that daylight has arrived and I can finally see out, I figure we probably have about 4 inches or so out there. Very heavy snow. But the wind is blowing it around, so it's hard to get a measure on it. Schools are closed today as there are some visibilty/drifting issues out there. Farther to my south, the warnings are in effect and travel is not recommended at all. So we are actually just getting the edge and in a way, it's just a normal snowstorm day here. Maybe later, I will venture out and see if I am going to blow it out or leave it till tomorrow.

Well, I found out yesterday that my boss' transfer to another park was approved and he will be going over there next week. He gave me the news yesterday while I was over walking the dogs. Sure hate to see him leave, but I know this is somethng he has wanted. He's been at Otsego for 12 years now. Came in and took over a park that needed a lot of updating and work done, both on the grounds and buildings among other thngs. He has transformed that place into a really beautiful park and the crowning jewel being the new toilet/shower building that he fought hard to get. He's a great guy, smart, great to work for, wouldn't ask you to do anythng he wouldn't do himself. Works just as hard alongside us. One of those kind of people who you knock yourself for and want to make sure "he looks good". This new State Park Recreational Passport" (new way of funding the parks) idea was his. Although of course the politicos have to make their changes and get the credit type thing as you know. If it works out, it will be because of his idea.

But he has always want to have a park on a big lake and loved the one he is going to over in Petoskey. It's right on Lake MIchigan and actually he will be supervisor to two parks as this park has another one to oversee as well. A rustic boondocking park just being developed on the lake as well. So for him, it will be another challenge which he will love. The park needs updating as it's crowded and sites are small, needing to be enlarged etc. I would love to be a part of it, but for me it would mean 120 miles of driving every day to and from, and it's just not prractical. Not with today's gas prices. My whole paycheck would be in the tank. So, I will stay at Otsego for this year. Our head Ranger who is also the Asst. Supervisor is taking over for now til a new Supervisor is posted. She is applying for the position, but cause it's civil service, they have to go through the rites of interviews etc. I certainly hope she gets it and I'm sure my boss will make sure it happens. She's been there 12 years and he has been grooming her for it the last couple of years. He asked me to come over and see him either today or toomorrow too, so I will go back over and see what's up. This will be a summer of transitions. So with the shift in management, the two guys who are usually called back in early to help with grounds cleanup, now having permanent jobs elsewhere, we are short three positions right off the bat this spring. So maybe I will wind up going in earlier this year. Time will tell. If it calms down out there, which it looks like it is, I will call and find out if he's there today and go over. It's only three miles up the road here.

But it is nice not having to go out today. And having cleaned my house yesterday, I don't really have anything on my plate today other than putting a second coat of paint on a door frame. Hope to work on my new campsite sign I am making. Just a nice be inside type day unless I decide to taclke the snow out there. Not doing much of anythlng out there now. Storm is pulling away.

Wonder if they will find the darn Groundhog's burrow today

FL sunrise
Image
Good morning from Blue Cypress Lake where the birds sing sunrise to sunset. We had a great time kayaking yesterday among the cypress trees, watching the many ospreys building their nests. Tina combed a big pile of fur off the dogs and left it outside my rig. I could hear happy birds gathering it all night long (at least until midnight when I took my hearing aids out. This morning the pile is gone.

Sarah rented a cabin on the water last night. Hope she got up in time to see this beautiful sunrise.

More kayaking this morning before a rain moves in about noon. Expect Soos will come today, and the gtg continues.

Hope everyone in storm's path stays safe and warm, and everyone else can enjoy your own sunrise where ever you are.

WEDNESDAY NUMBER ONE IN FEBRUARY

Postby Nasoosie » Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:59 am

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

I had to have my 'bear fix' this morning before I came on here, and here is a great clip on YouTube clearly showing Lily's two new cubs and Hope in their den. Having a yearling and two new teensy-weensy cubs seems to be just fine with Lily, and has her fans breathing a collective sigh of relief. For those interested, here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u46j3qRW ... re=related

I spent the day yesterday laying low, trying to ward off another sore throat threatening to take over my already exhausted-from-coughing body, and today will be more of the same for me. The weather forecast is for on and off rain showers, and I see that the pond is heavily rippled with windy stuff out there. My plans to boondock south of St. Cloud are on hold for another while. I am happy to say that, however, that my sore throat seems better, although my head is now stuffed. So....if the sun comes out, I will grab some sun at the hot tub later today and otherwise just rest and try to recover from this damnable virus that has plagued me since the Pirate Fiasco!

I hope to catch up on all the posts I've missed this past almost two weeks and just take advantage of some down time. Maybe Beth will still be at the Fish Camp later in the week, or even next week. Regardless, I will go down there and visit anyway----maybe just for the day, in fact. It's a short day trip from my son's, and I really want to see that place for future expeditions. So, for whoever might still be there, I will visit either tomorrow or possibly the next day, with just my truck until I 'case' the place and try to feel better.

Happy Wednesday to all!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Here in Schertz, TX it is a cold 20 and with the wind feels 5. Don't want to get out and have any problems so putting off my trip to pick up my rig until Friday, I think. Course the weather keeps changing from what they have forecast. Instead of waking up to sleet/snow and ice pellets, we have partly cloudy skies. So wondering if that means we won't get anything - it is just that far north of us or we get it later than expected.

My SIL came home with the flu yesterday at noon. Well actually, she didn't feel well yesterday morning when she went but she had something that had to be done by her so she went in to do it. Now my hope is that I can keep well. I did have the flu shot (the double one) so if I do get it I would expect it to be mild, but here is hoping that it looks at my antibodies and runs away.

Got my wireless printer set up this morning. Worked on it yesterday afternoon and just really couldn't get it to go. So removed all the network stuff and started again this morning about 6:30. Bingo, it went right in....That was a struggle because my former work with computers didn't include laptops and certainly didn't include wireless. So I am totally an idiot on wireless stuff, well among other things :D . So now I am loading Turbo Tax and will see what I can do about the Uncle. New printer did come with a Sudoku CD which normally I don't play but looks like I may try that for some entertainment.

All of your on the road, be careful, those of you sitting tight, stay warm and keep your powder dry. Coffee today is Chocolate Creme - uummhh good! :P

Good morning all, we were so lucky here in that the horrible ice storm missed us. We have a very light dusting of snow and a little is still coming down but not enough to cover the ground yet. We did have rain most of yesterday but when it stopped the wind came up and dried most of it up so streets shouldn't be bad this morning. Sure hoping all who were in the storm are safe. It's going to be really cold but guess we have to remember it is winter. We haven't had really bad winters here since the mid 80's so it is hard to get used to cold, snow and especially the ice! I should be in FL looking at places for extended stays next year!
Mitch I am soooo glad you decided not to head into the storm, St Louis is a mess, everything is closed. I doubt you could have got there actually. Soos I hope you feel better soon and can join up with the others. Birdie you did good, I had to have a Geek come out to hook up DH's wireless printer but mostly because we were mixing a Mac and a Toshiba. Stay well!! I hope the storm misses you too.

Checking in with -11 temps and -35 wind chill. Sky is blue and sun is shining but no school in pretty much the whole state because of the wind chill. No one want to take the chance of buses filled with kids stalling. I called in to work this morning and told them that I was going to wait until it was light before I left home and to hold my workers until called. The control room informed me that there would be no workers this morning and iffy for this afternoon. If they're going to let the inmates out this afternoon I'll go in because we have a screen printing order for a local school that has to be done by the time we leave tomorrow. I hate it when we have to do rush jobs.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Hello from Florida where the sun is not shining today... we had a tad bit of rain now just clouds...
I went over and watched some ladies do crafts this morning... I do not think I want to invest in making anything... but it is a nice place to chat and get to know people...
My milk soured so will have to walk to CVS to get some more and also some bread... I will only get a half gallon this time...
Soos I do hope you feel better soon... if not maybe a visit to the doctor is in order...
Oh the sunrise was beautiful Liz but no such thing here...
Take care all you that are in the eye of the storm... stay off the roads and take a day of rest...

..

I moved these pics...this is my friend's house in the Chicago 'burbs.

They can't get out of any door in their house, so they had to let the dog potty in the basement.
BTW - those bumps are NOT shrubs - they are pure snow drifts!!! :o

Liz, loved the sunrise photo! Stole that one too, for my desktop photo. :D

Soos, I take Zicam as soon as I feel a cold or sore throat coming on and it kicks it within a day or two. I am sold on that stuff! Also, L-Lysine tablets are really good at curing a cough and sore-throat. It heals up the tissues in your throat in a couple of days (also great for cold sores, and if you accidently bite your tongue or cheek. Heals it right up!)

Mitch, can't believe all that snow! I think the storm missed Minnesota this time. When I read about all the snow and cold temps on here, I have to quick look out my window to see the sun and green trees, to warm me up again!

I don't go into work until 1pm today and only work until 6pm, so a short day for me.
Hope you all stay warm, safe and dry today!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good grief!!! What are they going to do, wait for the spring thaw? I'm ready to look for a warm place to go for the winters or head to CA. Love the looks of where Liz and all are at now.

HELLO SISTAHS!

Brrrrr it's still freaking cold here! But at least there's no snow!!! (bite my tongue) So while needing a jacket outside with Shade and getting goosebumps I don't need my snow boots! YAY! I get this ? news post on my facebook wall feed. Was checking it out and found these pictures of the snow storm. So I thought I would share it to all who miss the snow!!! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41367748

My son made it to our hometown in NY yesterday at about 8pm est. He said the roads weren't to bad??? Hmmm? He did say that he had gotten stuck behind a slow pickup truck that he didn't dare attempt to pass because the hammer lane was snowy/slushy. Hmmm? Me thinks son was pulling Mom's leg about the roads not being bad. Me also thinks son was tongue in cheek when telling Mom that he was only doing 3 or 4mph over the limit on his way to NY. ???? Dang kids!! But at least he's there now and I can some what relax and not be wildly stressed. (i hope)

Kelly finally got the call from the computer repair place that her cpu fan is in. Was only suppose to take 7 business days to get here. It took 15 days in all. So we will run over to pick it up here in a bit!

Other than that there's nothing much happening here except for the blasted wind blowing. Sometimes I tend to think it never shuts off! ;) Haven't been over to clean the restrooms yet today so that is on our to do list for sure. Kelly said that with all the wind we've had that there is dust/dirt blown in across the floor. She checked the restrooms last night when she went over to take her shower. Need to get them all clean and sparkly again.

OK, ya'll have a good day and PLEASE be careful if your anywhere near where that storm dumped on yesterday!!!

Love to all

In Southeastern Michigan we were supposed to get 12-18 inches, but instead got barely 5". I could easily have gone into work today, but I really enjoyed sleeping in. I did go to physical therapy and ran some errands this afternoon. Roads are slushy but certainly passable, so the doomsday sayers were completely wrong, at least for us.

Good afternoon sistahs. We were supposed to get 6-10" of snow, but got 14". Broke all kinds of records here for a one day snowfall. We didn't get too much sleet/ice before the snow, so that is good news. It is now way too cold for me, in single digits and will be about -4 to -6 tonight. Kept the power through out the storm so was very pleased.

The puppies, on the other hand, are totally confused. Let them out yesterday morning and they were faced with a large drift on the patio. Stopped them dead in their tracks. They went charging out, to play with their neighbor friends, and when they saw the drift you could just hear the gears grinding into reverse.   My niece has since shoveled a path for them to the camper. From there they can get to the fence and visit with their friends. Now, we need to tackle the front. Not planning on going anywhere, have enough supplies to last until the weekend. Temps should be higher and the sun out so that will help with the shoveling. Besides, the streets haven't been plowed yet, as they are still working on the main roads. No school because the side streets aren't clear. Did see a lot of pics of fire engines, EMTs , police cars and transit busses getting stuck, so don't really want to venture out anyway. That's about all from this frozen tundra.

Echo, glad son got to where he was going all in one piece. Mitch, glad you decided to stay put. You certainly didn't want to be towing in that mess.

Take care all and stay safe and warm. Linda

We got down to 25 degrees last night, well 5 am was the last time I looked, wind chill was 14! I know that's not any kind of big deal for you northern ladies, but this is SW Louisiana, ain't supposed to be that cold down here. They're saying Thurs. night/Friday we may get snow... or in Louisiana it's sneaux!
