Post Cards

I remember that a lot of you sent post cards to the school children for AzuTeach awhile back. On my last trip, I decided I would send a post card from each state I go through to my 5-year old granddaughter and 6-year old grandson. I thought that maybe they would think grandma was weird sending a post card....how can that compete with DVD's, video games, etc. etc. However, I've been really surprised how much they enjoyed getting them. Both of them talked to me about them when I returned. My hope is that it will spark the travel bug in them so one day they will also want to get an RV and travel the US. My granddaugther also asked if she could go with me on one of my trips (she was in our Class A before, but hasn't been with me yet in the Class B). I think we'll spend a night in it parked in the driveway first.

Anyway, maybe some of you might want to think about sending post cards to your grandchildren or nieces/nephews. They might enjoy them.

I've been doing the post card thing since we started full-timing 5 years ago.....We, the kids & I, call it our "Post Card Club"......I send them to grandkids, nieces, nephews, younger cousins, and the kids of friends of ours.....I now send out 10 post cards.....usually it's everytime we're in a new place.....The kids love getting mail with their names on it.....boy, did I hear about it last year when we were in one place for 7 months.....didn't send alot of post cards cause we didn't move so I'm trying to make up for it this year....

I agree with MsB that it's a great way to keep in touch with the grandkids or any other little ones while you are on the road.....I don't send one to grandbaby, Ava, yet, cause it would be lost on her at 20 months, but her brother, Mr. Tye, who's 7 1/2 yrs. (don't forget the half year, Grammy... )gets one.....so the age group runs from 7 1/2 to 13 years......

So give it a try.....grandkids, neighbor kids, nieces & nephews, cousins,....it's great fun and the kids will love it.

I don't have any little ones to send them to - but I think that's a really neat idea - and maybe will help them with their geography also.

I loved hearing from relatives etc when I was a kid - bet they love getting them.

That's a great idea and it sounds like the grandkids love it also! When I was working and traveling to our state parks, I would send a postcard to a 90 year old friend.....and she also loved getting them. Postcards are great for all ages.

before we leave home I print out labels for all my mailing list, several sets of labels then while traveling I print post cards from my photos have one of those printers that just prints post card size. also buy stamps before I leave home. so usually I'll spend one afternoon every so often, printing, labeling adding a note and stamping. makes it kind of personal.

Carol, I love that idea - but would need to buy myself a new printer. Maybe one of these days - as I'd love doing those personalized postcards. Of course, that's what I'd do for everyone's birthdays, etc. Then I'd be saying I need a new, better camera Ah, yep, I do - but nope, gonna keep what I have.

I don't get far from home,..usually. But the few big trips I've taken I always sent post cards to the grands. It's a great idea. I am one of the ones that sent cards to Laura's class,.. that was a fun project.

I like the post card idea,... it teaches geography as well as you say,... inspiring the wanderlust!

I send postcards to my youngest Grandson in Scotland. His father sent me a photo of him grinning broadly, reading his very own mail. I also joined Postcrossngs where you send out postcards and get random postcards back from all over the world. I'd send those off to him in packages of ten and he has quite a collection now, with interesting stamps.
