I thought this might be of some interest to you ladies, since a lot of people are no longer in the areas where their loved ones are buried. It's pretty easy to look up if you know their names and the state they are buried in. They also have a place that you can click on for people that are requesting anyone in that area to take a picture of a grave that they are searching for.

This is my Grandmother on my Dad's side of the family, she died when I was only 7 years old, but I fondly remember going to their house on Sundays and she would give me orange soda in a glass bottle and a little bag of Fritos.

Thanks, but like Mitch, I couldn't find either of my grandmothers or aunts and uncles. Did find out there are a heap of Flickinger families in Ohio (my maiden name), but none of them are my grandma or grandpa!

Your memory of the orange soda in a glass bottle made me think of my grandma on my mom's side...we used to have "cocktails" whenever we were with her in the evenings. We would all get out our wine glasses and have some icky port wine - my grandma loved it and my mom let her give it to me - and I remember doing this when I was like 7 or 8. By the way, I hate red wine of any kind

Probably just a Southern thing, but why is her last name Pinder and she was married to an Ellis?
Shouldn't it have been Annie Ellis, or Annie Pinder Ellis? (My Mom's headstone is First Name/Married Name.)
Were they married?

That's a good question Mitch, I know they were married and she used Ellis as her last name. I'm guessing that's either the way they requested it because they wanted to show her maiden name too, a screw-up on writing the carving request or screw-up on the carving company, who knows, but I'll have to remember to ask my Dad.

I also found the gravesite of my great-grandmother, who I remember the story of her being 17 and well-to-do, her maiden name was Huffman, the town of Huffman Texas was named after her family. My great-grandfather, 25 years her senior stole her heart and they took off for Louisiana and got married, that's how my family started in Louisiana. Well, no, let me take that back, way, way back a male relative came by boat from England, landed in New Orleans, married a plantation owner's daughter, but she died in child birth along with the child and he moved to Texas and started a family there.

I found that web site last year when I was trying to find my Grandfather on my Mother's side who died when she was a baby. My Brother was going on a cross country motorcycle trip and wanted to see if he could find where our Mother was born. They were from Giles County Tennessee. My Grandmother and her 9 children moved to Texas in about 1919. My Brother sent me a picture of the grave. The headstone is relatively new, not from 1916 when he died. We were wondering who put the headstone because as far as we know there aren't any of our family left in Tennessee. There wasn't anyone around the graveyard and he didn't have time to find out who would know anything about the headstone. I know quite a bit about my Mother's family because I spent a lot of time with my Aunts but don't remember them ever saying what their Father died of.

I have a friend that's into genealogy and she looked up my Dad's family. My Grandfather on that side had about 10 brothers and sisters and I never heard them talk about any of them. My Grandmother had 3 sister and as far as I know after they moved to Louisiana she never saw any of them again. They would write letters. I can't imagine moving off and never seeing your family again. We are so lucky we have the means to travel like we do.

I'd forgotten about this site! It can be a big help when looking for family but it's a work in progress...so just cause the picture isn't there doesn't mean the grave isn't...don't know who takes the pictures and adds them to the web site but it will take time I'm sure for them all to be added to the site

Do you do a lot of geneology research? If you do, which sites are most helpful for you? I am just recently beginning to pull our family together (whew, it's been a long time coming ).

I'm glad you were able to find some of your relatives! I really don't do any family research, my Dad did some years ago, till he hit a wall on a relative that was a Confederate War Veteran, got aggravated and didn't go any further. On my Mom's side, several cousins have researched it way back and documented it for anyone who wanted a copy, I need to get that. It's pretty interesting stuff, to me anyway.
