International Year of the Forest 2011

This caught my eye, and while it's not a huge website, I love the logo.....

http://www.un.org/en/events/iyof2011/

Hopefully, it will catch on world wide and 2011 will become a huge celebration of our forests.

A very important message! Trees are the lungs of the earth!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Neat site, but I have to disagree with the statement that 'trees are the lungs of the earth' because trees do the exact opposite of what lungs do-----trees breathe in CO2 and breathe out Oxygen! Let's see-----what would that be called? Trees undo the damage that lungs and the burning of anything do to our planet. The rate that the rainforests and other stands of forests are being wrecked, stripped, cleared, destroyed is absolutely mind-boggling and total insanity on the part of mankind. More and more lungs and more and more burning of fossil fuels and fewer and fewer trees=disaster if we don't get ourselves in gear PRONTO!

But I knew what you meant when you said that, Barbie!! :) I just have to keep my facts straight in order to try to keep my mind from flying off into the stratosphere!

(Yeah, yeah-----I know it doesn't show always that I try to keep together!)

Soos, I read that somewhere: 'trees are the lungs of the earth'. I think they just meant that they help make the oxygen so we can keep breathing!

Oh I knew exactly what you meant! But I had to write that trees are actually the UN-lungs of our planet! Once a teacher, always a teacher, I suppose---and bossy and bit57y, too! Sorry about that! :)
