Upcoming Lunar Eclipse

Postby Bethers » Sun Dec 19, 2010 5:17 am

Here's the chart of the upcoming Lunar Eclipse for early Tuesday morning 12/21/10 (or for people like me, I consider that still Monday night):

I'm going to try to see this - I'm used to staying up all night now, so what's a couple more days. Here's hoping for clear skies for lots of us.

Thanks for great graphic Beth! I'm hoping to see this too. It so cool to be at the Winter Solstice.

Oh sleep......I find you so nice....but then again, there are those interruptions to take care of the bladder.....if I could time it just right :)

Hmmmph....of course it's gonna be cloudy and rainy here in SoCal, so looks like I won't see it even if I could stay up. Hope someone can get some good pictures of it.

Tina, here's hoping your bladder is on overtime Monday nite! Maybe an extra glass of wine before beddy-bye?

OMG, I was so much looking forward to this event!!! I doubt very much if I'll be able to see it as the weather is suppose to be crappy and rainy right up to Thursday.

Like Sharon says hope someone gets some really good pics of it!

Beth, I think you should take the kayak out and watch it from the middle of the lake...like we did the meteor shower. And take a picture, 'cause I'll miss it.

Unfortunately I won't be on any lake for this one. Oh, I wish. I'm just hoping for clear skies over Huntsville. Sorry part - I'll be in town, so hope the lights from town don't ruin it. Now I almost wish I was spending one more night in KY - but the 5-10 degrees difference is heading me out tomorrow. Hopefully - lots to do in the morning to be ready.

I was just out to the dumpster and noticed that a chaise at the pool will be the perfect place to watch! :D (not to mention that the weather will be balmy :) )

Weather not looking good for us to watch from here.
Some of you might like to join the live chat NASA is hosting (you can join in from anywhere)

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - People can talk directly with astronomers at NASA during Monday night's lunar eclipse.

Astronomers at Marshall Space Flight Center are hosting a pair of live web chats to answer questions.

The eclipse is set to begin over the Valley at 11:29 Monday night and last more than an hour. It will change colors from bright orange to dark red.

"We have people, really, from around the world who are asking questions about the eclipse right now and directing them to web sites where they can find more details and maybe video feeds tonight." Said Marshall Center astronomer Rob Suggs.

To join in on the chat during the eclipse, log on to http://www.nasa.gov/connect/chat/lunar_eclipse.html

Diana, I'm sooooooooooo jealous. Please - see all the colors they are talking about and come back and tell us about it. Unfortunately, it looks like the wispy clouds I could see the moon through before filled in - and I won't be seeing it. Hope more do, though. Was so looking forward to this - decided to leave KY for AL today instead of tomorrow for better chances. Ah, wasn't meant to be. Enjoy!!!!!

Here you go, Beth. You can watch it and listen to the train go by. Too bad you won't be able to feel the cold air creeping up around your bare ankles... click on the picture for a video.

Rats! I was so disappointed, out at 130 to find FOGGY skies! I continued checking for another hour, hoping the wind would open up a view, but no luck. Thanks for posting your pics Liz.
