Maybe Ava's eaten a persimmon "straight" and will be able to answer. I've had them made into breads, like banana or pumpkin bread. Very tasty that way. Don't know if I'm brave enough to eat one plain. I know they're used in salads sometimes ...

Stopping to give Vickie credit.

And your Christmas Gourd is really pretty. Another project I won't start - no room to collect gourds in the rv :) But I can enjoy those you make.

Really enjoyed all your photos. Great job on the bowl.
Did you know there is a national gourd society and many states have chapters?

http://www.americangourdsociety.org

Also found some photos of several really interesting creations. With a bit of practice, you might be able to bring in some extra bucks from a fun craft. Most of what I found sells from $20.00 to $200.00 each.

Scroll about half way down on this one to see flamingo and swan

There is even a gourd museum in NC. Carol: Is this anywhere near you?

I did see something about a California chapter so will have to check that out. So many cool ideas! Those flamingos were cool too. Now that I'll have more money coming in, maybe I can buy some tools and start practicing!

The gourd designers are very truly artists. The ideas they come up with are amazing.

Karen, I thought you might try to go after one of the flamingoes.

Barbie, I loved your Christmas bowl, you did a good job, especially being your first one. The pictures of your trip there are really pretty, looked like you had a great day. I'm so glad. I sure enjoyed the close ups of the animals. You're turning out to be another great picture taker on this forum.

Sarah, no Angier is over in the eastern part of N.C. , south of Releigh. Looks to be a small town, probably a neat area to go and investigate
