CAN I POUT?

Postby Colliemom » Fri Dec 03, 2010 6:49 pm

Excuse me for wanting to pout, but this hasn't been a good day. Yesterday and the day before as I mentioned in other posts, we have been having some beautiful lake effect snow scenes around here. And of course me being the photographer I am, was out taking pictures especially yesterday. My furbabies and I enjoyed a nice walk in the woods in about 5 inches of soft snow with every branch and twig covered in white. And a softly falling snow coming down. The kind of stuff, winter scenes and Christmas cards are made of. So I took a bunch more pics and one that I thought might make a great Christmas card scene.

At one point, I was coming out from under a tree where I had stopped to frame a picture and was putting my camera back in my pocket, had my hands full of gloves as well. Well, accidently dropped my camera which hit my boot and landed in the snow. I fished it out. no harm done. blew off the snow, wiped if off and put it in pocket. So this morning after I made my posts on Morning Coffee, I decided to put the pictures into my computer. When I opened up the door on the camera to get my Memory Stick out I discovered it was GONE! :o And all my work yesterday, GONE. Needless to say I am very unhappy  Took a walk over to where I had been when I dropped the camera and of course with another inch or so of snow, there is no way I am going to find that teeny thing in all that snow, especially considering it was a Memory Stick Duo and it's adapter cover is white too. Surprisingly though, the sand on the beach must still have some warmth in it, as it is melting again. Maybe if the sun comes out tomorrow, it might melt a bit more. But I am not holding out hope.

So went to WalMart today and looked at Memory Sticks. The Duo they have doesn't have an adapter and neither does ABC Warehouse. No camera places in town here either. I do however think I saw some Memory Stick Pro up there, which I can also use. So tomorrow I am going back up to check. If I can't find one in town here, that will stop my picture taking with this camera till I can get someplace where I can find one. All is not lost however, cause I have a good 35 mm camera here and I can get film and go that route. But........

Ahhh, Sue, I am so sorry. That little teeny thing is just waiting for you to go back and get it tomorrow. Then you can get a spare later. Don't you just really hate it when something like that happens?! Hopefully it will be okay when you find it. (Now how is that for positive thinking?) But seriously, just let it warm up very slowly and lay it on something that is quite absorbent for moisture both wet and damp, but don't get it near any 'heat' source. May need to leave it to dry overnight. Then decide to try it again in the camera or the PC as it could possibly swell a little bit. Decide if it does, which you want to damage.

Good luck!

As Birdie said - IF you find it, let it completely dry out and then some.
Good luck! :(

I lost a memory card that I had photos of me and my mom's last vacation up in Northern MInnesota on. That was about 6 or 7 years ago. Then the day before I left MN to come out here, I was going thru a box of misc stuff at my dads, and lo and behold, I found it! Yay!

Hoping you can find yours too! Bummer! :(

Oh crap! I would probably be out there on my knees with a whisk broom sweeping thru the snow for the dratted little thing.

But then again all we have is Kelly's camera with it's memory card. And you had best believe that if I lost it she would kill me! :o

Sue, so sorry you lost your memory card, but I have to ask, are you sure you put it in there before you left the house? I ask because when I was reading the start of your post, I though that was what you were going to say, sounds like something I would do! (shut up, Mitch)

Oh, I do hope it is not really lost. With Soos down south for the winter, we all need you more than ever as our official "snow" photographer this year.

Of course you can pout! And then go find it, and put it into a bowl of dry rice. The rice will draw out the moisture to help dry out the drive. This method works with phones that have been dropped into water sources (I'll let your imagination work on that...). Should work here too. And believe me, I'm also pouting too since I couldn't go pick up Foo Foo III today. By this time next week, you'll have your memory card and I'll have Foo Foo, so we'll both be happy campers! :) (Pun intended obviously)

Sue, what's different that you can only use certain types of memory sticks - versus all the memory cards out there? Just curious.

And, when you went to open the door to get it out - was the door shut? I can't imagine that at all - But no matter what happened, bummer!

When in Vegas serveral years ago - my g/f had a memory card with not a lot of memory. Needed another, so we stopped and she bought a new one. When she got home and wanted to upload all the pics - the 1st one never did appear again. Those little things sure can hide - and in her case, disappear.

You take such good pictures - can't imagine having to go back to 35 mm now (and I was a late convert to digital) - as now I can take dozens of pictures to get just the right shot - and no cost to develop. Good luck!

Sorry if you loose the pictures, but about 8 yrs ago we were in Calgary and I needed a new memory stick pro for my camera as I had filled up the small one that came with it. Stopped in a shop and the only one I could get cost me $125!! They sure have come down in price since then!!!

Sorry you lost your memory stick...especially when you had important pictures on it. On a positive note one of my friends lost her entire camera last winter when they were snow mobiling and it had all the pictures of her parents 50th anniversary on it. She was just sick. Come spring she was walking down their gravel road and along the edge of the road was her camera. It had gone through several blizzards and been covered by snow banks for nearly 3 months. She had already bought the identical camera put in the memory card and it worked...she had all the pictures...plus the camera still worked after it had dried out.

Words of wisdom! It's way to close to Christmas to pout!
