Oh, Mitch, blessings to you and prayers for you both. And yes, I too have been going thru those stages with my Mom. There are times when she knows me, but most times she doesn't. It's okay to cry, laugh and drink wine! Matter of fact, I'll put some Barefoot and Yellow Tail to cool for you. Let me know when you need a glass and I'll sip for you. That way then you can be NP or MM or anyone else that George sees in you and I'll booze it up for you.

Went through a small part of dementia with my ex's father...Every time we'd visit he'd keep asking who we were...never got used to it. Can't imagine how hard this is on you, but want to add my thoughts & prayers too...I agree with the previous posts....humor is better than crying if you can manage it, vent to everyone as it helps to lighten the load at least for a little while...keep love in your heart as that will comfort you...and do the best you can for George as no one else can care for him as well as you....God Bless....

Oh Mitch, I am so sorry you have to go through that too. The others above me have pretty well said it all. Keep your sense or humor and your faith. My aunt had dementia and it was always hard when they visited dad and I here. Had to keep an eye on her cause never knew what she was going to do. I stopped her once when she was going to do dishes using DRAINO! We just laughed and I gave her the dish soap. She always called dad and I husband and wife which of course we weren't. Eventually she went into a nursing home cause she couldn't be left alone and it was getting too hard on my uncle to keep watch on her all the time. She gradually didn't know him either but he kept going every day till she finally passed away.

My dad told me the other day that he thought maybe my niece is pregnant because he overheard the women talking on Thanksgiving about having a shower. So I checked with my sister-in-law and found out that it is true. I thought it was odd that they hadn't told my dad about it, but now my SIL tells me that my brother's and their wive's took my dad out to dinner a few weeks ago and told him all about it and that he was going to be a great-grandfather. My SIL says he just had a blank look on his face when they told him and he didn't say anything at all like it wasn't even registering. They all continued to talk about it over dinner. So she can't figure out why he doesn't remember being told about it. I wonder too! He seems excited about it now that he "knows". Not sure if that is some sort of dementia from maybe a little stroke (he had a large stroke years ago) or some alzheimers coming on.

Just to clarify! When I posted these shock and laughing faces, I had just read Janice's post and saw her pic! I missed the last page of this thread, so now it looks like I was laughing at Barbie's post, I wasn't, just being a Doofus and not paying attention to the pages. Took me a while to figure out why my post wasn't there, till I read more.

Why such vitriol against Nancy Pelosi? Guess I need to pay more attention to politics.
Sorry for what you are going thru Mitch.

Mitch
I know you are strong and can get thru this with that great sense of humor of yours. You have helped many of us along the way and just remember, we are all here for you now.
BTW: While we don't have many restrictions on the forum, I'm pretty sure blood letting is prohibited so no wrist slashing allowed.

Don't all you Nancy-haters worry ... soon we'll have an orange -- uh, tan -- Speaker of the House!

Even the president jokingly called soon-to-be Speaker John Boehner is a "person of color."

I know - I'm quite excited (not about his "color", however).
