San Antonio Texas Intro

Postby longdog2 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 2:12 pm

Greetings from the San Antonio Texas area. I'm new to the forum but not new to RVing. Over the years, I have enjoyed "camping" in a pop-up, various travel trailers, class C, small class A, and 5th wheels. Family includes spouse, two grown sons (one in Air Force and one just out of Marines), and three dachsunds. The retirement plans for June 2010 included a 2009 31' 5th wheel and new diesel truck and a long RV trip. June and my retirement from a civilian contracting officer with the Air Force rolled around; however, at the last minute, my husband decided he just couldn't stand giving up his part-time (weekends) job as an events coordinator. I decided that life was too short to wait around forever and I would travel without him. The truck, 5th wheel, and I headed to Florida for 2 1/2 weeks to visit my oldest son who had just returned from Afghanistan. We had a great time and then headed north to Michigan. Since we had family business that needed to be taken care of there, my husband flew up (his family) and spent 2 1/2 weeks in the RV with me. I was there for a month. Next I headed to the RV Hall of Fame in Elk Hart Indiana and on to Indianapolis to visit a friend. From there I headed to Arkansas for a visit with my brother and his family before heading back to Texas. The whole trip went great with the exception of the loss of a vent cover (tree branch 2d to last day) and the electric front jacks going kaput (2d to last day too  ). Fortunately jacks were fixed under warranty and vent replaced once I got home. Lest you think that I was completely alone, the 3 dachsunds LOVE to travel and are great travelers. Hubby made a shorter two week trip to Fredericksburg TX with me in October. Guess who still thought he knew more about the RV but didn't  Anyway, next RVing will probably be with cousins coming with 5th wheel from Calgary Canada in January. Can't wait--unless I miraculously get all Christmas shopping done right away and head down to the coast for a couple of days before then. Good to meet you all.

Welcome to the forum! Good for you not sitting around and waiting on hubby and going out on your own,him joining you when he's able! You'll hear this repeated, so I'll just get it out of the way and say we want to see pics of the rv, critters and family, oh, and of course you too! Join in on the discussions and look at the Get ToGether thread for joining in on all the fun.

Welcome aboard. I admire your strength and sense of adventure that gave you the push to just get started......I also travel 98% of the time by myself with the dogs and purchased a vehicle with that solo travel in mind..... I don't have to negotiate my travel plans and time schedules nearly as much this way   Look forward to meeting you at camfire down the road.....Hopefully we can give you even more destinations that give you reasons to head off down the road for more adventures.....

First, a big thank you for being patient with me - Ladies, I had accidentally deleted her request for membership along with all the spammers. She re-applied, and, I hope, isn't holding it against me.

So glad you got here and have posted. There are several in the TX area - maybe you can plan to meet some of them. I hope to get to TX for part of Feb/Mar, too.

Welcome!
Beth

Welcome to the forum. You just missed a GTG in Schertz, TX November 19-21. There were about 15 of us and we had a great time. Some members from the forum and some that have met through RVing Women. I'm leaving tomorrow, heading out for an RVW rally with the Ramblin Roses in Waco. The Texas Chapter of RVW has a rally about 6 times a year and always a good time.

I'm married and my DH doesn't want to travel or camp either so I make short trips. He has never even driven my motorhome but always has an opinion on my RV and trips. Men! Sounds like you have had some good trips. My longest lately was to New Jersey for my son's retirement from the Air Force.

Hope to meet you down the road.

Beth - Don't worry about the sign-up. I'm here now. Read your blog. That article you referenced is a totally biased piece of work-can't really be called reporting. I will be posting pictures but the photo site referenced keeps saying I am "ineligible" without giving any reason. Can I use a different site to post photos?
BirdbyBird - Glad to hear that I'm not the only "single RVer" who isn't single. I might have chosen a smaller RV but "we" picked this one because it has recliners for his bad back. Anyway, it is very comfortable and this woman can "handle" it.
Martha-Was your group at the Stonecreek RV Park in Schertz? So sorry I didn't know about it. I actually had full-timer friends who were in town and stayed there during that time frame.
Liz-Port Lavaca sounds good!

You can use any site that will host the pictures and provides the link to them.

So sad that you missed so many in TX - but hey, now that you're here - good reason for you to gtg with several others.
