Random generosity? Random kindness?

Random generosity? Random kindness?

Postby Echo » Sun Nov 28, 2010 8:56 pm

Stepped outside tonight, my neighbor was talking to a woman in a small silver car with a couple young girls with her. MY neighbor hollered at me and said, "Hey ya want some free groceries?" OMG, sure!

We ended up with something like 7 bags of food. A whole bunch of canned goods, pasta, soup, veggies, candy, seasoned/flavored noodles, gravy mixes, all in all at the cost of the grocery store here in town it probably totals to at the least $200 worth of stuff. Tried to make our neighbor take half but she just chuckled and said no she didn't need it that she ate at her mothers. Tried to get her to take some for her mom but she kept refusing.

I don't know what to call it??? Luck, blessing, kindness or what!!! But I must have told that woman "Thank You" 20 times. This will come in so handy with us being so short on cash! LOL I wanted to grab that woman and do a happy dance with her. I asked her where it all came from? She said she was moving to Oregon and didn't want to drag it all up there with her. I really have no idea if she is a friend of my neighbors or if she is living here in the camp ground?? But she sure has my gratitude tonight!!

All we will need to be buying for the next couple of weeks is meat and coffee!!! YEEHAW!

That is so great. It is so good to hear "good things" in this day and age. You are truely being "looked after." Enjoy

I agree with the "pass it on" - sometimes we get blessings we don't recognize, so it's good to do random kindness all the time - but with something like this - wow.

God is definitely watching over you girls ;) I'm so happy for you :D People have been sharing food with me lately. Not in that quantity, but anything is appreciated. I don't refuse free food. I am usually on the giving end so I know what goes around, comes around and I will again give when I can. Last Christmas I was giving homeless people Walmart gift cards and donating food to and cooking at a homeless shelter. A lot can change in a year!

What a wonderful gift, Echo! Sometimes you juat have to be in the right place at the right time to be rewarded. I know you will have the chance to do the same for someone else some day, and, in the meantime, enjoy every speck of your 'treasure!'

Oh believe me I am a very firm believer of "What goes around, comes around". And anytime I have received a blessing, a favor or a help out, I have always passed it on in any way I could.

Always figure if I didn't Karma could turn around and bite me on the butt.

I've never understood the kind of people who get handed a help out like we were last night, who just seem to expect it or brush it off as a little bit of nothing? I shake my head and figure sooner or later they will get bit by Karma. Then they will not understand why and will throw the blame out there everywhere else. But never, ever take responsibility for their own selfishness. Not my kind of people....

I said a prayer last night for the woman who gave us the food and her family. A prayer asking that someone help her out and returns 'a' favor when she gets to Oregon and for safe traveling for her and her kids.

My Christmas donation for several years has been to call the local battered womens' shelter and find out how many women and children (and their ages/sex) they currently have. I then make up goody bags with shampoo, body wash, soaps and a gift card for Walmart (amount depends on how many I have to get). I buy something specifically for each child; usually a piece of clothing and a toy. Most of these women have walked out with only the clothes on their backs. When I went fulltime I also donated a bunch of small kitchen appliances and some furniture to the shelter to help the women get back on their feet again. I enjoy this giving so much more than just throwing money in a kettle and have most of it end up paying some executive's salary.

Karen, what a wonderful idea.
I'm on the hunt right now for a women's shelter in our area. Thanks.

And Echo, someone is watching over you guys. That's really cool.

Just had to jump back in here and add this!!!

Today AlienRox came by with our mail. She also is a member here on the forum and works at the Lodge. She does the books for the Lodge and usually lives up there all winter long along with the owners. Beth and Sparkle know for sure who she is.

Well she not only brought our mail but all the groceries she had in her cabinets and freezer!!! Not a lot as she lives in a small TT up there too, but every bit helps. She is leaving the Lodge for a couple months to spend time in FL with her kids and grandkids so needed to 'get rid of' the groceries. She brought them down and gave them to us!!! We then had hugs all around and she scooted off down the road. Said she had to get going as she almost got stuck coming out and she was worried about the weather.

She and one of the young guys that stayed up there to paint posted the other day on facebook that the temp had dropped to -32f at the Lodge for Thanksgiving! YES that is ""-32 degrees, 32 below zero!!! OMG! Only time I have ever experienced that kind of temp was in Indiana one night when the diesel fuel tank froze up on the big truck cause it had water in it. But it was that low cause of wind chill... :o I just bet ya that Lenora knows what those temps are like!!! ;)

They usually close the road and lock the gate on the Canyon Pkwy the first of December. But this year they've had enough snow up there already that they shut the road down a little early. I'm telling ya from the time ya leave Jacob Lake to the time you get to the Lodge it's a long lonely 26 miles with nothing but trees. A few miles past Jacob Lake you lose cell service and that's it until you get all the way to the North Rim it's self. So it would not be a good place to get your vehicle buried in the snow. You could freeze to death and not be found for maybe a month. Bosses go out maybe once a month to get mail and anything else they might need from town. For them once it snows it's a 26ml trip on snowmobiles to get out to their truck which they park at the ranger station at the end of the road. Said it takes them 2hrs to make the trip one way. BRRRRRR
