Building a Patio

Postby Bethers » Fri Sep 26, 2008 1:05 pm

Well, I CAN do it! Not sure how often I want to - as I discovered muscles I haven't used in a while - but yesterday and today, I extended my patio here 3'4" x 8' . Unfortunately, I forgot to take before pics, but after I was underway yesterday I thought to get my camera out and take pictures then - and now today after I finished laying the tile and putting back down some sod - so here goes:

The first pic shows after I had to remove a bunch of small tiles - they were in the space above the newly laid ones. (They were not joined to the patio - just out there by themselves. I'm guessing someone put them there because they had their door open there at one time) So I took those little tiles out - and started laying the 16 x 16 tiles that were given to me (I was given 11 of them, so would use them for most, then would have to use the 8 x16 for the last square and the row above them:

Another view:

OK, today I finished, moved all the loose dirt out back and spread it around - laid sod that I pulled up into the area that I removed the smaller tiles from - and you'll notice that it looks muddy over much of the rest of the area above the newly laid bricks- but that's only because there's still dirt there that will be sinking in. TaDa:

And some other views:

I'm really impressed with myself - and if I can get some more 16x16 tiles, would consider adding another row. That finished result is two rows of 16 x 16, then a row of 8x16 sideways. But, I'm not going to put a lot of money into something not mine, so don't want to buy them. Now I have to decide if I want to put up a wall like I had on my last site (could actually move that one over). I'm kind of liking the openness, but I also like the privacy - decisions, decisions!

Beth, I am impressed too. I was married to a brickmason. :) It also looks level.

Wow! You did an absolutely beautiful job. Having done some brick laying here at my stick house to accommodate my RV, I know how tough a job that is. Kudos to you. It looks terrific & I know you'll enjoy the whole thing....especially as it's your hard work that made the whole thing possible. Pat yourself on the back.....I'm betting that every time you step out of your RV, you're gonna smile....

WAY cool Beth! I bet outdoor living space is worth it's weight in gold when living in a RV. Hope you find some more tiles!
(and I vote for the wall).

I'll bring my chair when I visit. It's looking good. I think a Strawberry Daquerri would look well on it too.

Lookin' great Bethers! I vote for moving the wall to your new site. Neighbors are muuuuuuch too close for me! But of course I'm used to living where I can't even see another house!

YES! It looks wonderful. Now add just a couple of chairs, a little table and a glass with an umbrella in it!! Mmmmm.

Thanks, all. I'm opting, for the moment, for no wall - but I have the option of changing my mind :)
