SNOWY SATURDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SNOWY SATURDAY

Postby Colliemom » Sat Nov 27, 2010 10:50 am

My goodness, it's almost 11 a.m and nobody's posted to Morning Coffee yet. Guess everybody's holiday and feasting finally caught up with them.

I've been up and at em since about 6 a.m. this morning. It's a snowy day here today with a few peaks of sun. Typical lake effect snow weather. It snowed most of the night last night, so I have been out taking some pictures around my yard and the little lake across the road.

I don't expect this snow to stick around too much as it's very wet and a warm up is expected this week. So I think most of it will melt. It's also the first day of real winter driving weather here as well. Zipped out to the hardware store this morning and then stopped at the park to feed the cat. In just a bit here, I am going to get a turkey ready for the oven. My supper for tonight. Then I think I will work on the soffits and do some priming if nothing else. It's snowing again now and is supposed to gradually wind down as the day progresses. It's also the first day I have noticed ice starting to form on the area lakes.

Glad that everyone enjoyed their Thanksgivings, wherever you were. Sounds like lots of family, friends and feasting.

Well, I'm off to get that bird in the oven. Have a wonderful day everyone.

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

We had a brief but heavy rain shower here yesterday afternoon, and , although they need much more than we got, it has given the grass a boost today. Things are very much greener this morning. There is a huge flock of robins foraging for worms and grubs in the lawn----the ones from my yard back home, probably!

I tried the auction again last night (hence no chatroom again) but got so tired of waiting for my bar stools that I wanted to bid on that I left after two hours. The stools were way back in the line of items to sell. I drove over there again this morning, and there they still were! Full of hope, I went to the boss and asked if I could pay cash for them. Sadly, they had been sold last night and the people who bought them just hadn't picked them up yet. Sigh.

We then had a nice bonfire back here, and chatted around it fr a couple of hours. It was too damp outside to bring out the guitar, but we had a nice time.

It's cooling down fast today, as the cold front passed through, but it's really very nice weather. Molly will be lonely now as her friend, Fallon just left for the Amtrak station with her owners. The two dogs had a great time chasing balls and sticks all over the place. Ths is such a perfect place for dogs to go free and run wild!

No news from Kathy yet this morning, so am hoping she is someplace safe and closer to her destination. Cedar's friend, Kathy, should be feeling better now, hopefully.....get well, Kath!

The campers in the western part of the country are having good times in the desert, it seems. All in all, it seems like a fun Thanksgiving was had by all.

A 22-year-old boy, a former student of mine, is missing in the high peaks area of the Adirondacks. Wesley left his work in Saranac Lake Saturday night and said he was going to take a little hike in the Marcy Dam area. He had no winter clothing on, no supplies, no nothing. They found his Carhart jacket in the middle of one of the trails, but no sign of him. The only excuse I can think of for that kind of behavior is that he must have been so high on some drug that he lost all sense of what is proper behavior for hiking in the extremem cold conditions of those mountains at this time of year. His poor family must be frantic. Adirondack natives know better than to venture forth as he did, so unprepared.

It's very quiet here once again. Later I will go back to the auction house where they are having a massive garage sale today, and see if any furniture gets brought in that looks as if it might belong in my house.

I hope you all have a fun day, wherever you may be.

GOOD MORNING SISTAHS!!!

It's chilly outside this morn but the sun is shining and coming on strong so it should warm up and be a good day! Shade didn't want to come right straight back inside this morn after doing her business, she laid down on the rocks in the sunshine and toasted her little bones. As she wasn't shivering I took it as a good sign that it's gonna be nice out.

That's a real bummer on those stools Soos. And I sure hope they find that young man before it's too late!!! Like ya said. ya have to wonder what was going on with him and his head for him to do that. ~sigh~

I see Sue and her furry crew got some snow up there to play in. Shade would be in heaven with that! Silly dog, she shivers here now that she's blown her coat but boy oh boy she loves the snow and loves to play in it. :D

Had our turkey dinner last night!!! OMG it was sooooooo goooooood! But if presentation is important to you with the 'golden brown bird? Your gonna be out of luck. I'm really not sure what tasted the best tho? The turkey? Or the mashed taters and homemade gravy???? I only made up just a little gravy as I didn't have much corn starch, have GOT to go to the store and get more for the rest of the turkey drippings/juice. Turkey turned out great from the crockpot!!! Very juicy and moist. It was a challenge to get it out of the crockpot! Tried lifting it out and all the extremities fell off so all I was left holding was the main part!! I then had to go fishing for the legs, thighs and wings!!! Kelly was messing around fishing little pieces of meat out of the crockpot and she got a hold of a piece of the liver. I thought she was gonna gag herself to death!!! Needless to say she does NOT like liver.  Told her that it served her right for trying to get all those little yummy bits.  She forcefully informed me that liver was not a yummy bit, reminded her that Shade and I thought so. I just bet she will think twice about doing that again. Or else she will examine everything before she eats it. ;)

Ok, it's time. Got to go harvest and visit neighbors farms. Hope everyone has recovered and is having a super day. Remember to stay safe!!!

Love to all

Aww Soos, too bad about those stools. But it wasn't in the cards for you. That means something better will show up. But you did get the dining table and chairs, so that was good.

Mine is Oak. And I do have 4 chairs even though only three in the picture. The other one is in my computer room here as I am using it at the table my computer is on.

I'm enjoying hearing about your daily activities down there. Makes me wish I had a place like that, that I could go to. Then I might be willing to leave her for awhile in winter.

Good luck at the garage sales.

Sue... Love the snow photos, looks so peaceful. But am glad it is there and not here.

Cold here today but sunny and better than yesterday.

Soos... You are getting to be a pro on the auction thing. If it is anything like the ones I'm familiar with, you can ask the auction house manager about bring an item up out of sequence. Most will do that if you give them time to react. (Try something like "I've only got an hour or so to stay; could you please bring the bar stools up soon")

Echo... Good save on the frozen stuff the other day. Is there anything you cannot fix?
Glad to hear the crock pot turkey turned out good.

For those of you who might like to try something different to pass time this winter, check out what you can do with an avatar these days. Will post it under the gadgets thread. Pretty interesting stuff.

I do turkey breasts in the crock pot....yummy.
Soos, too bad about the young man. Finding his jacket might indicate hypothermia which makes you feel very hot. Hope they find him.
