Snake bite

Postby retiredhappy » Fri Nov 26, 2010 11:12 am

I can't find the post about their son's dog being bitten by a snake. Would like to know what happened - please.

Karen, this was the last update I could find....

My son spoke to the original Vet that treated KayLee yesterday...they ended up giving a refund of $150 dollars which of course every penny counts now. Thomas has ended up staying home with the dog again today due to her serious condition...I have not seen her but have been told that her face has blown up to almost basketball size & she is in much pain. Thomas has pain pills which he is crushing & mixing with chicken broth so she'll get that relief. He said he is mashing her food, and making rice & ground up chicken & hand feeding her as she can barely open her mouth...but she is getting food down & she has been able to drink water. One of the things I found out is that when they were hunting, they were in a deep gully when she got bitten...When he saw her legs buckle, he ran to her (Lucky he didn't get bit too..) & put her on his back & climbed the 2 miles out of that gully carrying her all the way....The Vet told my Son (who is Thomas' father) that Thomas was so frantic when he got there that he could hardly speak & was begging for help...The staff was so defensive because they couldn't calm him down...anyhow, there's more infor....some of which is conflicting with what Thomas' story is...I think he was so distraught that he misunderstood their reactions...but, who knows. The dog is still in very, very bad condition, but the Vet said every day that she makes it through is a good sign...I can only say that my Grandson absolutely loves his dog & is the most important thing in his life right now. He has been through some really hard times & then this happens...Thank you for any prayers offered.....

I must have missed this story somewhere... so sorry to hear about this! How awful for your grandson and the dog! Hope the dog pulls thru! Poor thing! Will sent a prayer for him.

Sorry about not updating the dog's condition...with so many things going on, I just didn't have the time. I saw Kaylee on Wednesday....Her face has returned pretty much to normal, but her left eye is still swollen & only half open...the bite/bites are about an inch or so above that eye & the gash from it is still open & looks pretty nasty...It's about 2 inches long. She is able to eat & did not show any signs of aggression...She is absolutely the most gentle Lab & it's hard to believe that after all she's gone through that her personality hasn't been affected. She's still friendly & showed signs of wanting to play...We are all most grateful for the prayers said on her behalf....thank you to all of you. I personally feel that the prayers were heard & helped in healing....Thanks again...so very much.

WHEW! Thanks for this update! I have been holding my breath, wondering what the outcome was, as Molly and I are now in poisonous snake territory. May the dog keep getting better and better, and may your grandson finally get to get some sleep!

I've been wondering and worrying also. So glad for the update - and knowing the worst is over. Dogs continually amaze me. Not just by surviving these things, but surviving them and not letting their wonderful personalities suffer. So glad that's the case here, also.
