Spinner checking in from Georgia

Postby rvgrammy1953 » Sun Oct 31, 2010 1:13 pm

Spinner, here....Well, it's been awhile since I checked in with my "fur-kids" friends, but my summer was busy with herding the "2-legged niece" Ava, and visiting my "doggy cousins" and chasing strange little critters called "chipmunks"...never could catch one and I tried all summer...

Now, it's back to my official job as Holbrook Pond Campground's "K9 Camp Host".....Now, I like this job....I meet and greet the 4-legged family members as they come in with their folks....Mom & Dad say that I can be a little over-excited, but hey, I'm just that kind of guy...I just like to meet new friends...and after all, got to live up to my name....as I jump and spin as my greeting...(along with barking, but I'm working on that part... ) Most of the time though, I just sit in my chair outside, watching critters and folks going by and enjoying the nice weather...

One of the benefits of being the "K9 Camp Host" is that I get to go to the Army's Doggy Day Care and Spa here....I have my appointment this coming Weds.... :D It's got to be one of my favorite place....they give me my bath and do my nails, then after I dry, I get to play with all the other dogs in a big play yard....Life is good, for this lucky Jack Russell....

Okay, well it's time to go out and sit in my chair...Hummmmmmmm....got squirrels here, maybe I'll see if I can catch one of them... ;) Oh, darn, Mom & Dad got me on a tie out, guess I'll just have to watch....

Your friend,
Spinner

Peaches here. Spinner, I haven't been able to catch any squirrels or chipmunks either. Maybe when we meet we can put our heads together and come up with a plan? Ah, chances are we'll forget that idea cuz we'll be too excited about seeing each other.

Glad you have a good job. My mom is mean. She just got a job for a couple months where she's going to be gone 10+ hours a day. Excuuuuuuuuuse me - did she forget about me? And that I like regular belly rubs? She's gonna come home after I've been sleeping and doing nothing and tell me it's bedtime. Excuuuuuuse me. Would you tell her I really which she'd remember that I want her around more. Ah, she keeps explaining it'll keep me in dog food, treats, etc. Guess I'll suck it up and except it - but 2 months for us dogs is like, a really, really long time.

Mom's saying it's time for a walk. YEAH! I'm outta here.

Hey Spinner! Roe here. I never could catch those chipmunks either...too many holes in the rock wall for them to hide in. I did manage to catch a dwarf guinea pig that belonged to my mom's gd....but that just got me in trouble. I only wanted to play with it...

Just another squirrel watcher now.

Herschel here. So glad that you have a job that you like. Stuart is our big "varmit" chaser. And he claims that we have never found a wild cougar in the yard because of his vigilance.....now how do you prove that he is wrong? Take care of you hoomans they are pretty fine and you have them "broke in" and trained so well. Woof Woof :)

Hi everyone, Sophie, Buddy and Sassy here. I (Sophie) don't chase anything I might catch. My job is to try and say hello to EVERYONE who comes into the CG. We (Sassy and Buddy) just watch that little dog suck up to everyone. Altho it might not be a bad idea - she does seem to get a lot of treats just by staring at people. Mom is pretty much immune to her but Sharon is still a pretty easy touch.

Sassy and Tessa here. I, Sassy, will chase the squirrels right up the tree. Caught a chipmunk once, but that was when I was living at my first home. There was a day when I could just about nail a squirrel too, but now that I'm getting older, I don't have quite the speed I used to have in my younger days. Tessa, ah well, she's retired from dog shows and she isn't into the chasing stuff much.

But hey, we had a great summer. Mom bought a TT and we got to go camping for the first time ever. We like it. Lots of people come by and stop and pet us and we get to go for walks around the campground and see other dogs and sniff all kinds of sniffs. When we are home we have a fenced in yard, but we get long walks everyday. Sometimes we have to be on our leashes and other times we go in the woods and can run around and sniff. That's fun.

Have fun in your K-9 camp hosting job.

Molly here in Central FL with some squirrel catching instructions for Spinner.

First of all, crouch as low to the ground as you can get, and make sure your ears are back flat. Inch on your belly closer and closer to where the varmints are tracking back and forth for food. When they have their cheeks or mouth full of food (like wild apples in their teeth) leap up like a grasshopper in overdrive and pounce on them! Give them one good quick snap of the neck, and there you have them! I recently eliminated several red squirrels back home in the mountains, and am now going to try my tactics on those huge FL grey squirrels. My mom says she hopes I learn how to snap them fast, as they are invading her house in Orlando! Time will tell!

Soos, I had  to laugh as you catch and release mice, but encourage Molly to snap the necks of the squirrels.

Maggie here, hey Molly seems you know what you're doing. My hooman lets me get the mice in our house, she just screams :D We had a beautiful grey squirrel on our back porch, today and she wouldn't let me at it, I tried. But I will keep your instructions in mind, Thanks.

Stuart, if you want to prove your stuff on keeping big animals out of the yard, we have a big wild cat here, come get him, cause I can't hardly get out in my yard, my hooman, says I am just bait size, which is insulting, but I let her get by with it. If she'd just let me at it, we wouldn't have to worry anymore or maybe I wouldn't at least  (This is not a wild kitty kat, its the real deal , been seen by several here, likes my creek, so has a path across my yard)

Good luck on catching those squirrels, don't get a rabied one though,
Maggie
