I am absolutely overcome with all of your wishes...from the bottom of my heart ...thank you for remembering me...I will be going out to dinner to my favorite place...(it's just one of those all you can eat places...but it's reasonable, they have an excellent selection & I've never had a bad meal there...and by the way...I have a free dinner ticket so......
However, this is not a good birthday for me....as posted my Grandson's dog was bitten twice by a rattler...the dog is now home with Thomas as he couldn't pay any longer for the Vet to keep her with the IV's and everything...the bill is already over $1500...he's borrowed from anyone he could & now has taken his bonds that I've bought for him over the years & is going to cash them in .... He has been working on & off as a Chef's helper but the work has kind of dried up so no papcheck coming in...this AM he called me & broke down....He's a pretty tough kid so hearing him sob really hurt...Says the dog's eye is bleeding, her face is terribly swelled & she can't eat...when he tried to call the Vet last evening, they did not answer...so he called a local vet in San Jose & they refused to help him as they hadn't originally treated her for the bites...Anyhow, he finally got a hold of the Vet in Los Banos & they said the eye is trying to flush the venom out...& just to watch her & try to give her soft foods so she has nourishment. It's all complicated...between no more $$$ left & not being able to leave the dog alone...he has the opportunity to work tomorrow...which obviously he can't pass up, but can't leave the dog alone....so anyway, we're dealing with a lot of different issues.
I want to take the time to thank Mitch...She PM'd me with info on Snake bites...it is far more serious than one would think....but having information is a whole bunch better than being in the dark...so thank you Mitch, for taking the time to send that off to me. I printed it out & gave it to Thomas...I guess what frustrates me is the attitude of the Vets Thomas has run into...It all revolves around dollars & if you don't have those dollars, your pet can die & that Vet ignores the need...I am beyond understanding that....Let me be clearer...I'm sure ALL Vets aren't like what he's run into....but this case is simply a horror story & this beautiful animal may not make it because of the way this whole thing has been handled. Sorry, I'm just so angry & I feel so helpless...But back to the birthday wishes...thank you all...Your thoughts , prayers & good wishes have certainly been welcome & appreciated...
PLEASE...say a prayer for this dog...Please...

I'm so sad about your grandson's dog. Does he know, ball park figure, of what continued treatment would be?

Vickie...have not been able to reach him on his cell phone...which doesn't work all the time anyway...But his Mom just called me & said that Thomas was going to bring KayLee over to her house so he could go to work tomorrow...that's all I know other than that the dog must not be left alone. I think even with the bonds he's cashing in that there won't be enough money to continue any other treatment...He did buy the prescription drops for her eye...but that's all I know at this time...Thank you for asking....

Charlotte...Happy, happy birthday to you :D So sorry to hear about your GS's dog. Wish he could find a more compassionate vet. My DD's significant other got bit by a baby rattlesnake when they lived in VA. He thought it was a garter snake and picked it up  He went to the hospital without insurance and they would only treat him with antibiotics since the anti-venom is so expensive. His hand and arm swelled up like a balloon, but he got through it. Baby rattlers are supposed to be worse than adults since they can't regulate the release of their venom.

My son spoke to the original Vet that treated KayLee yesterday...they ended up giving a refund of $150 dollars which of course every penny counts now. Thomas has ended up staying home with the dog again today due to her serious condition...I have not seen her but have been told that her face has blown up to almost basketball size & she is in much pain. Thomas has pain pills which he is crushing & mixing with chicken broth so she'll get that relief. He said he is mashing her food, and making rice & ground up chicken & hand feeding her as she can barely open her mouth...but she is getting food down & she has been able to drink water. One of the things I found out is that when they were hunting, they were in a deep gully when she got bitten...When he saw her legs buckle, he ran to her (Lucky he didn't get bit too..) & put her on his back & climbed the 2 miles out of that gully carrying her all the way....The Vet told my Son (who is Thomas' father) that Thomas was so frantic when he got there that he could hardly speak & was begging for help...The staff was so defensive because they couldn't calm him down...anyhow, there's more infor....some of which is conflicting with what Thomas' story is...I think he was so distraught that he misunderstood their reactions...but, who knows. The dog is still in very, very bad condition, but the Vet said every day that she makes it through is a good sign...I can only say that my Grandson absolutely loves his dog & is the most important thing in his life right now. He has been through some really hard times & then this happens...Thank you for any prayers offered.....

Oh dear----I didn't read these messages to the end before I posted the happy birthday message. I have been wondering what I would do if Molly got bitten by a rattler or Water Mocassin while down here. What a sad thing for your poor grandson and family. I hope the the fact the dog is able to drink and eat by being handfed will help it to recover, and that your grandson will have a happy outcome. How scary this is.

Strength being sent from me and Molly to you all. Molly says he can make it!
