Sentry Pro flea treatment FYI

Postby AlmostThere » Wed Nov 17, 2010 3:22 pm

I saw on the news where Sentry Pro flea treatment is making dogs sick. It's not life threatening, but does make the pet very uncomfortable. The vet says it's the equivalent of feeling pins and needles. When contacted, Sentry Pro makers said that it's something that can happen to some pets and that they aren't responding any differently to selling the product.

Here's a report from an ABC affiliate published back in May of this year:

I get Frontline Plus for Abby - the smallest one for up dogs up to 22#. However, Abby is less than half that weight. So what I've been doing lately is buy the size for HUGE dogs and use one of George's syringes (with needle yanked out and syringe cleaned well) to give Abby a cat-sized dose.

We sell this and other brands at Petco and I know that some of the people are buying it because it's what they can afford so I just tell them to be super careful with it and don't over-do. I wonder if the dogs that are having a bad reaction to this brand would also have a reaction to Frontline or one of the other brands you get from the Vet, maybe they're just extra sensitive ?? I tell them they can buy Frontline one month at a time at their Vet and some folks decide to go that route.
I use Frontline on Molly and she seems fine with it - it makes ME itchy but she is OK.

I use Frontline on my dogs, and it works really well. Here in Arkansas, fleas and ticks are horrible. I use gloves when applying it.
