Veterans Day Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Veterans Day Morning

Postby avalen » Thu Nov 11, 2010 6:57 am

Good morning ladies
Coffee is ready, sitting and thinking of all the Vets I know and how grateful
I am for them.
Just a few minor things on my schedule today other than packing and organizing
my stuff.
Our weather has turned cold, not cold like northerner cold but what we call cold
in Ariziona, whimps cold, the last few weeks I've only had to turn on the furnace
in the early morning to warm me up as I have my morning coffee, but last night
the furnace kicked of and on all night. Glad I remembered to get propane yesterday.
The girls are up and wanting breakfast, they are so demanding  I won't get
a minutes peace until I feed them.
Enjoy your day and be safe, for those of you with hubbies and relatives that are
veterans, I thank you!
Somewhere with Ava and Maggie

Morning to All - It is pretty cool this a.m. in Park City, KY - jeans and long sleeves again. Will probably get to somewhere around Memphis today - about 300 miles. This part of the trip is more of "a get there" than a "lets see what we can see" part.
Think I mentioned we have reservations in Vegas starting the 20th. Still having weird things with the satellite - most likely Hughes net - every time we change locations or modems (don't know which yet) we can't get on to AOL until the next day. And yesterday even with IE and FireFox I couldn't use the "search" features. Haven't checked to see if they work today - but AOL does fine.
So Beth hows the job going? We are about 45 miles from you.
Did any of you in the KY area see the weird con trail yesterday? It WAS NOT a jet. It spiraled straight up!
As soon as The Driver is up we will be on the road.
Good and safe day to every one.

YAHOO! I got on here at my son's place this morning, as Melissa reset her WiMi card last night! Now I can take my time and read all the messages and my email that has piled up over the past several days!

GOOD MORNING AVA, CAROL, AND ALL!!

I got my termite bond re-upped yesterday, after being informed that it will cost me another 400 bucks beyond the annual renewal. This is because the former owners of the company, Middleton, who were taken over by Massey in December of last year, had not refreshed the chemical treatment applied with the first bond about 11 years ago, and the stuff was good for only 5 years! They were only too happy to accept my 200.00 each year to keep the bond up, but not ethical enough to apply any more chemical. Luckily, my place seems to be termite free anyway, but this new company wants to make sure it stays that way. The bond ensures that, if any termite damage is found anywhere, they will compensate and repair it. For the extra $400.00, they are installing termite spike traps one foot into the ground every 8 feet around the house. There is only white pine sticks in them at this point. They will inspect them every 4 months, and if any termites are then found in the traps, they then insert the poison stuff into the same spikes, re-introduce the trapped termites so that they will carry the poison back to the nests. The alternative, which was only 100.00 cheaper, was to apply a liquid chemical spray all around the house, thereby endangering my last two delicious orange trees. I opted for the seemingly safer method.

I also got my triple cable package installed yesterday---unlimited phone service, including long distance, cable internet, and cable TV. Brighthouse will charge me about 130.00 each month for that, including a 5.00 charge for a wireless router (until I get my own, and then I can have them take the rented one and the five dollar charge off my monthly bill) and free HD channels. So, other than the shock of having to pay that extra 400.00 for the danged termites, I was a happy camper. I can pay for that over the next three months with no interest charges.

So, back in my own house, I now have everything I need except fruniture! I actually have enough of that to survive until I have
Melissa help me go on Craig's List and find some cheapo living room furniture. The new vanities and linoleum will have to wait for a bit now. Here, in my trailer, I have electricity and the use of their bathroom along with my little porta potty until we get the water hooked up for me, and the sewer. Both are right where my trailer is parked, and just need the time to do it.

What is in store for today, other than my catching up on posts and email and bills, is anybody's guess. It's absolutely gorgeous weather out there!

Coffee is hot, so stop by and let us know what's up wherever you might be!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

No, I didn't hear about that contrail. I know there was one in CA, but not Kentucky. this is getting kind of interesting or scary, I don't know which.

Glad you are making progress with your trip to Vegas. And that the weather continues to hold.

Soos, sounds like you are getting settled in and things are progressing along nicely. So it was worth all you had to go through to get to where you are now. And it can only get better from here.

Sorry you had to shuck out $400.00 bucks for termites, but it brings peace of mind, so that's what counts. I would have gone the safer route too if it had been me. And spraying the ground also puts your precious four legged companion in harms way too. Hopefully she will stay away from fire ants too.

Reading about your adventures of getting your house all set up and liveable again, makes me wish I were starting over with another house. I love the challenge of doing that. Sure there are frustrations, but it's just being someplace different and having to get things the way I want them. I've benn in this house 14 years, and done just about everything that can be done. I guess I'm like Ibaimo, that fits me too.

Not sure what I am getting into today. It's going to be nice and sunny again and it's the next to last day. After this, it's going to be cloudy, rainy a bit and also snow will be mixing in by next week. Looks like it's going to start being that stay inside and putter type weather from here on. But you never know. I want to take wallpaper off my kitchen walls and paint anyway, so I can get started on that. My "girls" are getting bored, so I think it's time we take a ride someplace. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning all on this rather cloudy Veterans Day. My gratitude goes out to all Veterans. They had a lovely write up in the local paper this morning about a woman who was a nurse on a ship during WWII. She said she still keeps in touch with some of the other nurses she served with.

This not being able to chew is getting old fast, I'm drinking my breakfast of milk, cereal, blueberries, grapes & flax seed all blended like a smoothie. I think I'm going to loose those extra pounds, hummm but maybe not I indulged in home made sweet potato cheesecake at my favorite coffee hangout yesterday! I posted on the Campfire thread yesterday about the laser dental work I experienced on Tuesday. I'm going to be taking extra care so I never have to do it again!! I think I'll be spending a good portion of the day on the couch watching daytime TV. The dogs will love that. Well until the guy comes to finish cleaning our gutters then they will start barking and wanting to go out and 'help'.
I wonder about the contrails too especially now that they have sighted another one. I wonder if they know what they are and just aren't telling us. Soos, you sound so happy, I think FL and that sunshine plus having family nearby for company and to help really agrees with you. Sue, if you are bored at your place come down and you can work on ours. I can find plenty to keep you challenged!

Good Morning... A huge thank you to all of our military... My dear sister Wilma was in the Air force... my brother was in the Army... my dad was in the Navy he saw things no one should see in WW II ... most of us can relate stories... but today is a day to be thankful for their service...

Thank you Ava for opening the coffee house... it is so good to read each one's post and find out what is happening in all of your lives...

Soos I am curious why are you fixing up the house? are you going to sell or rent or what... if it is going to sit why put furniture in it just fix the things that need fixing... if I remember right Goog did a lot of work on it...

I know about not eating solid food... just soft stuff... hopefully mine will be fixed next week... then I can put the last things in Bright Hope and head south... first stop someplace in S Illinois then to Tn to my girlfriends in Camden... then I will try to wind my way south not using many interstates... hopefully that is...

I have heard of the vapor trails wonder what they are... also hope Beth had a great night of working... and I hope the book scare did not hurt their work... Amazon simply made an unwise decision... now it is fixed...

Why has life gotten so complicated... guess we will never know...

May your days be filled with sunshine and memories and dreams...

Adding my heartfelt thanks to all our fallen soldiers and their families.

Just a quick g'morning. Here's a link explaining the 'mystery in the sky' pictures.

GOOOOOOOD MORNING SISTAHS!

A very deep heartfelt THANK YOU to all our veterans for the sacrifices and service they give to this country. I also will include a deep appreciation to all the civilians who contribute to the protection of this country. The Moms, Dads, Wives, children and siblings of our soldiers. They all, everyone of them, give up so much. Son is living at a VA hospital at the moment talking to councilors and doing group therapy due to Post Traumatic Syndrome and his divorce. I can't imagine the stress his is under at the moment.

Have had 2 cups of coffee so far with more on the way. Gads it sure does hit the spot this morning.

The only plans that are in our future for the next few days is WORKING on this TT to make it livable and comfy. OMG, what a freaking mess. But more of that a little later in a different post. But at least we did survive the trip here and our first night. LOL I think that all 3 of us slept like dead things last night.

Well will sign off on this one for now. Grab another cup of coffee, take Shade out again and relax for a few moments in the sun. It's not real warm out there but it's warmer than the top of the rock! LOL

Hope everyone has a super fantastic day and stays extra safe.

Love to all

Adding a big Thank You to all the veterans and their families!

Soos, sounds like you are fixing up the house to move into yourself! Is that your plan? How far is the house from your son's place?

Kathleen, what was the "book scare" with Amazon?

Echo, so glad to hear you two made it down off the "rock" yesterday safely! Now you can concentrate on getting settled in for the winter. Do they get snow there? Will you be able to keep warm and keep the water lines from freezing?

Sharon will be here shortly with my entertainment center/dresser, so I better get up and get dressed so I am ready to help her with that. It is so nice of her to do this for me! Then, I will be off to work at 3pm. Haven't seen my schedule yet for next week, but hopefully will have more hours than this week.

Have a great day!

I just read about it. That is so disgusting! Can't believe Amazon defended their decision at first. I wonder if they would have pulled it if it wasn't so close to Christmas. Can't believe anyone could defend a book like that. Freedom of speech taken way too far, IMO.

I buy lots of book on Amazon but mostly used books so the money isn't going to Amazon anyways.

Sharon and Evie just showed up with my entertainment center...in pieces! They had to take it apart in order to get it out of Evie's house. So I have a project on my hands! I've put a ton of them together before so this should be no problem. :? Luckily, a nice neighbor guy offered to help us carry the main section of it up the stairs and into the apartment. It is made of that pressed wood so very heavy. I got called into work early today so it will have to wait until tonight or tomorrow night to put it all back together.

Now for lunch and then off to work!
