Coach battery replacement

I know this is a very basic question but...I need to replace my coach battery. How do I know what kind to buy. When it's automotive the auto parts stores like Auto zone can look it up for you, but don't know how to find out what kind for the coach. Please don't suggest my manual because the only one I have is VERY generic, for all units made by the manufacturer and nothing specific to my model. I'm going to remove the current one while it's in storage and then replace it right before I get ready to head south.

Good question. I'd like to know that answer also. I'd probably go back to Les schwalb. They replaced my engine battery last month, but at first thought i wanted a new coach battery, so I'm hoping they'd know what I'd need as I'm sure a new coach battery will soon be needed.

Auto Zone replaces my coach battery also. I use a marine battery, I think it is. They'll even come take the old one out and put in the new one. I LOVE Auto Zone!!!! And if you run the battery down like I do - it'll have a 3 year warranty. One year free, then pro-rated. Good deal for people like me with just one battery getting used and abused.

Yep, same as Beth, tho not at Auto Zone, I went to Firestone. I wrote down all the info on the battery, googled the manufacturer, located a store near me that carried it, took it in, got one just like it, came home and put it in. Oh, I took a pic before unhooking everything because we have the wheelchair lift straight to the battery too so there were extra wires going to it, anyway, hooked everything back in the same order it was before and done!

When I tried to find the brand that was in my coach - couldn't lol - otherwise probably would have done what Vickie did. But a friend suggested AutoZone - and I switched to their batteries - cuz I trusted who recommended them - and I like that they are all across the country. That said - all you need to do is get the info off your battery - and anywhere that sells them will be able to find the equivalent. Check #'s and know it's equivalent - just in case - we all know some places are more trustworthy than others.

You definitely want an RV/Marine battery; not a regular auto battery which are designed to supply power for starting.
Most are type 24 but some are type 27 which are larger and give more amps. Should be listed on the old battery.

My house battery is a marine battery and you should need the same. I just replace mine. I would purchase from a store that is nationwide (agree with Beth).

Thanks all. I also love Auto zone. If the whole 'take it out now, replace it right before I leave" thing doesn't work out, I will drive it to them and let them do it for me. Good story about auto Zone, although not about RVs. Right after I first left my DH I needed new windshield wipers. Drove a Honda CRv and it had both front and rear wipers. In moderately heavy snowstorm, I drove to an Auto zone and told them I wanted to replace front and rear wipers. They only had the front ones in stock but offered to try and find one for the rear for me. Kid got on the phone and found one - I assumed another of their locations. After he put my front ones one, he directed me a few blocks up street to a competitor store! I was in shock that this kid went above and beyond and now buy ALL automotive related items at Auto Zone.

Yep, Kellie, that's the kind of service I've had with them also. And when my check engine light came on - a truck service place sent me to Auto Zone - where they'll do the diagnostic FREE. They did - was no biggie - and my worries were allayed with no out-of-pocket expense. And if you get your battery from them - it'll be in their computer system. No need to save the receipt - any AutoZone can put in your info and will have the date, etc of the battery.

Our equivalent to them is Schucks. They do all that also.

Good to have, Lenora - but one of the reasons I went to AZ in the first place, is that they are national. I've visited them in a dozen states, probably When it comes to restaurants, I look for the local folks, for something like this - I want the chain that I can find no matter where I travel.

Auto Zone is great. They will replace wipers and batteries, etc without a problem. They even offer to do it, just love that. On the battery, just remember you want a deep cycle battery, not the regular vehicle battery. Linda

My closest Auto Zone is about 15 mi away. The Schucks is 1.5.

Good to learn of the Auto Zone being nationwide. Up here north of Seattle we have Schucks; our local Schucks rarely had what I needed and the service in our local store was not so good. Recently they were bought out by O'Reilly's. I think that is happening to several Schucks stores ijn Western Washington...frustrating when stores sell out or are bought out, remember decades ago when you never heard of a store becoming something else...things used to be so steady and solid, it seems.

I have always had the best experience with "Interstate" deep cycle RV/Marine batteries. so far so good until they let someone buy them out too, heaven forbid.
