Cat problem beef!

Why is it that some cat owners think that cats don't need boundaries? I'm so tired of cat roaming free using my flowerbeds for their toilet! Yesterday I scooped up a half a plastic grocery bag full of feces!! Most of it wasn't even covered up like normal cats do! I have called animal control and all they say is that they are so busy with dog problems that they won't even take on a cat. Their solution was for me to buy a cat trap, catch the cat and take it to the pound.

Someone, perhaps on this forum, suggested sprinkling cayenne pepper around as a deterrent. Used a whole can and didn't work. New cat pile this morning right in the middle of the orange dirt!

I'm at a loss!

Lenora, I had the same problem in FL, only it was 3 males marking territory. What an odor. Nothing like walking out of the house and into a litter box. I tried everything I could think of to keep the cats away and nothing worked. Didn't work on the cats but sure killed my plants. I even bought some Cat No stuff and sprayed all over. I did buy a trap and caught one cat. On my way to the pound the lady came out screaming that it was her cat. I told her she would be able to pick it up at the pound and it would keep happening if she let them out again. Never saw her cats again. I also told the owner of the last cat the same thing. Never did understand why it's okay to let cats run free but not dogs. Linda

Yep, did the mothballs. Did some special spray I got from Petco, too.

Do they use one spot in particular? Like under the overhanging eve where it is dry? You might try putting down some chicken wire so they can't dig.

It does use the dry area under the eaves, but also in the bald spots in my front lawn! What irks me is why should I have to go thru all this expense because of someone else's animals roaming loose!? Just frustrated...

I think it's SO rude of people to let their cats or dogs roam free - it's selfish and it's also dangerous for the pets.
I agree you shouldn't have to spend money to stop your neighbors pets from "going" in your yard, but I guess that's the way it is sometimes. Do you live where there's a homeowners association ? If so they should be able to do something. Guess you could put some signs in your yard warning people that you will be putting live traps out next week and you will be taking all captured cats to the pound.
Maybe that will get the humans attention (don't think it'll help with the cats - HA) Of course it may piss off some neighbors but then you'll know who the cats belong to and you can return all cat gifts that are left in your yard.

About four neighborhood cats hang out in my yard ... and got rid of my rats. So some of us aren't unhappy about roaming kitties.

I have made such a collosal mistake! My poor dear, soon-to-be ex-husband will be left holding the bag....of cat food. We have ferel cats in the woods next to the house and one of them stold my heart. It is the prettiest tabby. She is a brilliant hunter and looks like a bobcat from a distance. Over the summer I wooed her to come near me and she watched me interact with my own cat and decided I can't be all that bad. So, now we are bossom-buddies and I feed her most every day....DH doesn't know that and will wonder why the little sweet thing meows outside his door wondering where the old lady with the cat food is.

The notorious kitty, Jack-Jack, that has been using my flowerbed for his potty was left outside all weekend while his owners went away. He's only half grown and was meowing all Sat. By Sunday I couldn't take it any more so I opened the front door and all I said to him was, "did they go off and leave you"? At that he ran over and straight into my house, right past my dog whose hair was standing on end! Once in my house he proceeded to act like he'd lived there all along. He even chased my dog around just for play and kept batting his paws at him thru the backrest slats of the kitchen chairs. I tried to coax him out again, but that wasn't happening! At that point my DD and her family came for lunch and they adore cats so he was petted and toted around for an hour. I finally got him outside so we could eat and he started scratching at my patio door. I thought, "now I've created a monster"!

Well, his owners returned later that night and I haven't seen him since so hopefully he's forgotten me AND my flowerbed....yeh, right.
