THE GREAT SANDWICH CAPER

Postby Colliemom » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:16 pm

Hello everyone,

Have been looking through the posts on General Talk and Morning coffee and it looks like everybodys fine and up and doing whatever.

It was a good day here. Sunny for the most part with clouds moving in this afternoon. Temps were in the 40's, but with now wind it felt good. I spent the day finishing up outside chores I had to get done before the white stuff flies, which looks like it's going to be Thursday night and Friday morning. But it won't last.

Took a lunch break from my work around noon before I started another project. Came in and was in the process of making a sandwich of Old Fashioned Loaf. Had the plate out, buttered the bread and had just laid two slices o Old Fahioned Loaf on one slice, when the doorbell rang. It was my neighbor over the way (they were up at their second home for a few days). He saw my snowbolower sitting out in the drive and came over to ask me a few things about it.

Well, while we were out talking, Tessa, who is a counter surfer anyway, decided that that half made sandwich smelled irresistable. She was able to snag it and she and Sassy had a nice lunch. Left the clean plate on the counter along with the reamaining slice of meat (out of reach). So when I finished talking with the neighbor and came back in, they were laying in my mud room waiting for me, just as nice and innocent as could be. Very sweet, innocent, brown eyed tail wagging doggies. ImageImage When I got into the kitchen, I laughed cause I had a feeling that was going to happen. I left the plate at the counters edge and all the time I was talking with my neighbor, I had this feeling my sandwich wasn't going to be there. So I had one slice of meat left, but unfortunately that was my last wo slices of bread... So off to the fridge for some leftover goulash. Now she's eating her supper

Wonder how Soos made out today. Can't wait till the next eposide.

Sophie says, nice going Tessa and Sassy. I just don't understand why the hoomans get so upset when we help ourselves to food. They shouldn't leave it so close to edge if they don't want us to "go for it". My hooman has learned that I'm REALLY good at counter surfing.

I've had a couple of "counter surfers" also. Maggie, says she isn't tall enough :( :) Cause she sure would be going for it   When she visits Roe and Bandit in their R.V. if their Huuman hasn't picked up their dishes, she gets them,

Yeah, you got that right. Hey, you know I (Tessa) will also snitch off the table if she forgets to push in the chair and her plate is sitting there. Ya just gotta know the ropes. 8-)

Hahaha.

My last 2 dogs knew not to touch my food unless I said ok. And pretty much followed the rules. But I remember one of the exceptions that was soooooooo funny. Tips (mainly black) noticed that I had left some cheese dip out while I went to take care of something (phone, door, don't remember). Why I got back, I had totally forgotten about the cheese dip being out and just went to work at my computer. Wondered why I had the box of chips sitting there. Looked around, and Tips had orange all around his mouth. Couldn't see the dish from the cheese. Really had to look - he'd pushed the empty dish (which he'd removed from the table) down under my desk and all the way back into the corner. I really believe he thought I'd never find it. When I pulled it out, and looked at the orange around his mouth, and his head hanging, all I could do was laugh.

Peaches wishes she could reach the counter, and I'm sooooooooo glad she can't. Great story, Sue.

Those critters think you love them so much you want to share...
My friend Jere the walking man was walking in MN a few weeks ago... he was moving his site and thought he would get two egg salad sandwiches for breakfast... he laid them in the car and thought he should get gas before he left... well his dog Trail made that breakfast look like yesterdays in a flash... so Jere had to get two more for himself... no sense to fuss just let him have it...

It was sweet of her to share with her sister...and she did leave you one piece.
Several years ago I called my then DH to dinner. He didn't come so I said, I'm feeding your steak to the dogs if you don't come to the table now. I left the kitchen and went to the bathroom. When I came out, one of the dogs was finishing the last of HIS steak. This dog had NEVER touched anything on the table before, I know dogs understand everything we say, so I didn't tell the dog he was naughty!

In the MH Sammie knows that she can get up on the dinette bench and get anything on the table. When I was workamping this summer, I had a bowl of cereal on the table when my boss came to the door. She wanted me to come outside to see something. Needless to say when I came back in the cereal was gone, the whole bowl. I learned that whenever someone came to the door while I was eating, I had to remember to move the food.
