Woke up to storm sirens

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Woke up to storm sirens

Postby Redetotry » Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:26 am

The wind blew hard all night and around six the sirens started which set Winnie to howling. Sometimes I don't hear the sirens think it depends on the wind direction but I can depend on Winnie hearing it. She was the smart one, wanted to go into the utility room which is the most sheltered spot but maybe it's because that is where the dog food and extra water is stored. All is well now and I don't see any large limbs down in the yard but not a good way to ease into the morning. I hope Beth made it through this area yesterday and didn't decide to stop in Illinois for the night.
The storm did bring much needed rain, just read in the paper it has been the driest summer since they started keeping records in the late 1800's! Planes have been flying over checking for any fires the last couple of weeks.
Have a good day all, I'm off to yet another dentist consultation hope this one is THE one who can fix me up.

WINDY TUESDAY

Postby Colliemom » Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:37 am

It's really mild out there this morning, around 60. But the winds are picking up as the tree tops are starting to sway and my flag is starting to fly out. Cloudy and gray are the weather words for this morning. Radar is showing a line of storms heading in, so will probably be raining in awhile here. Tornado Watch is posted for about a half dozen counties to my south. Anybody heading north into the U.P. had better get going before the winds kick in. Mackinac Bridge wind policy is 35 mph and high profile vehicles are escorted over, 50 mph and no high profile vehicles allowed, 65 and nobody goes over.

Yesterday when I was driving up to Hobby Lobby, the surburban that belongs to the Emergency Services coordinator was just making a right turn from the road I had to turn left onto and headed down the two lane road that goes around the back of Otsego Lake. Then I pulled over cause an ambulance was coming, back on road only to pull over again cause State Police were coming. Then got up to the next light and fire truck came around the corner. Then just past intersection, had to pull over again cause heavy rescue vehcile was coming.
Don't know what that was all about, but my guess was it must have been a dozy of an accident someplace. Will find out when local paper comes out tomorrow.

Not sure what I am getting into today. Thinking of trying to rearrange my living room. I have a gas stove in one corner that should be my focal point, not my Tv in the middle of my short wall. I have a half wall out from by my front door and a long wall along one side of my living room and a bay window in front. Don't like to put stuff in front of the window cause I like the view and like to sit and look outside. Plus my heating registers are along that wall. So today I will have some fun with all that. The floor is Pergo so furniture is easy to move. I've been wanting to get rid of this big computer desk I am on cause I plan to get rid of this desktop coputer down the line here. Then move the TV in here, but that would mean I would have to buy another chair for in here and with future plans calling for selling this house, I don't really want to buy anymore furniture.

Lily and Hope yesterday, outside their new den site. They have come a long way since the birth in January.

I was looking at that weather picture for the midwest, and it looks very ominous to me. Anybody on the roads nearly anywhere in that huge storm area should seek shelter somewhere----but how does one do that out on the roads?

Sue, it's time for us northerners to wind down our outside chores and get hunkered down for the winter, like Lily and Hope are doing! Lucky Carol, in the warmer south, can keep right on painting for another while!

Yesterday I took advantage of the wamer temperatures and installed my tire pressure monitor and the sensors. It told me that my tires are low in pressure, and so I will need to add air each day with my puny little compressors until all 4 of them are up to 50 pounds psi----the recommended pressure when cold. Or, perhaps I can find a spot to add air to them in Saranac Lake before I head out on Saturday. I will look tomorrow when I go there to do some last minute shopping. None of them is terribly low----between 43 and 46 psi, but....I might as well get them right! I am setting my low pressure warning for the tires at 43 psi, and the upper limit at 60 psi, which is what the manual said was the way to do it. I need to pick up some axle grease and grease for my stabilizer screws when I go shopping, too.

I also checked my batteries yesterday, and no cells were low on water.

Today is like summer out there-----already up to 50 degrees F. and the sun isn't even up over the hills yet! It's predicted to get into the 70s today, and I am looking forward to it. I will pack the last of my stuff into the back of the truck, and will hitch up on Friday evening, perhaps, if the weather is good.

Molly and I will certainly enjoy being outside today in the sun and warmth! Happy Tuesday to you all!

Coffee is hot, so stop in and give us a few words about your day.

Wishing you luck on the dentist thing. :? Makes my mouth hurt to think of it. Think we have three morning posts. The storm is stirring everything up. The only scheduled appt today is one for a health screening where they check for cardiac function and potential stroke, and peripheral circulation. My mother had a stroke at 70 so I think of that stuff. I am thinking that my appt is scheduled for right as the storm is coming through.... :o :) :) BJ, let us know if there is hope for both your mouth and your pocketbook.

Good morning Everyone !!! Its been awhile since I was here, and finally caught up on the morning thread, this morning. Getting really close isn't it Soos? I've really enjoyed your trip preparations, and thoughts. You actually aren't the only one who has these thoughts and fears and bad dreams. Just the only one who has been honest enough to talk about them. Once you get out there and do it, you will still have them at times, just before a trip, BUT you will know then you can do it. The known is always safer, but the unknown, is way more fun!!! No matter what, I go for the unknown. I think you are as prepared as you can be for any thing, so just realize this and have a Great trip. As far as getting lost on a backroad, thats the most fun ha,ha. Your GPS will get you out of it if you can't find your own way out of the maze. Once you're on the road, and especially after you have picked your friend up, before you hit Fl. you will know, "Hey, I can do this, piece of cake". I have to admit, I will miss the morning doings and chores you have laid out for the day, getting ready for this trip. Its been a really great trip for all of us and most of all a real eye opener as far as being assured we are not the only ones, who have these feelings you have shared with us. We'll all be anxious to hear how your trip did go for you.

Well another stormy day here, yesterday, my power was on and off most of the day. Wind was terrible, limbs all over my yard. I don't like high winds, and more are expected this afternoon, and supposed to be worse then yesterdays. Great !!! I have too many trees, which worry me, when winds are high, but i love trees. We do need the rain, but yesterdays stormy weather didn't bring much of that here.

Need to go see what everyone else has been up to, lately. Boring here, so hopefully some of you are doing exciting things. :) I do have a cleaner house though and getting more so as each day goes by, Big news from here

Have a Great day everyone, those of you in the storm area, stay safe !!!

BJ, good luck with the dentist! I sure hope he/she can fix you up without breaking your bank!

Tina, when they are checking for blood pressure, and that storm is upon you, perhaps the readings will be either rock bottom due to low air pressure, or sky high due to terror!

Let us know what happens with both of you!

Good luck ladies, with your appointments today. Tina, hope that storm doesn't hit while you are out. I did the same thing last week, Life Screening, checks with a reasonable fee, these things that concerns anyone my age :) BJ, I hope you find a dentist you can trust and who won't ruin your budget !!!!

Stay safe driving in this stormy weather

Good morning! Hope everyone stays safe in the areas of storms and high winds today. It is unseasonably warm here today, with temps expected back in the 90s. Hope I can say it's unseasonably warm at the January GTG too!

Today began my week of drs. appts./6 mos. check-ups. I so carefully schedule them all in one week, (Apr. & Oct.) but three of them have already been rescheduled and now stretch into next week because the dr. wasn't going to be there at my appointed time. Today's appt. was with the family dr. and took care of fasting bloodwork too. So now I'm home having breakfast. Cardio was originally this afternoon....was moved to tomorrow, and when I got back this morning, there was a message that it's been moved again...now next week. At least I'm not trying to get out of here on a trip or I would be ticked.

Roe had a bath yesterday and today I will try to comb out some of the excess hair before our camping trip this weekend. Then there's a continual battle with shed hair on the floor to vacuum. Roomba gets a daily workout, but can't keep up with it.

Bandit just brought me a frog from the pool deck. Nice kitty. It's either fainted or dead. Poor little froggy.

I'd be right in that pool, Liz! It's already up to 54 for us here this morning, too, and I can't wait to get out in the warmth!

You're welcome to come and get in the pool anytime, Soos! I'd love to have you....I'll even turn up the solar heat on it.

Good Morning everyone... wow there are a lot of people stirring this morning... oh I also hope that Beth and Peaches did not stop in IL even here the storms were bad during the night and they say winds to 65 mph today... that would be a bugger to drive in... the rain was so hard it woke me up and most of the time I cannot even hear it on the roof... but now the sun is shining once again...

Liz did you get to take pictures of the festival? hope you did... oh bj I know how those dentist bills can hit you right where it hurts... soos can you feel the water on your back as you glide across the pool? ah ah ah you will enjoy that a lot...

I called Beth to see how she was coming along... all is well and she will drive safe... the storms came last night and were a bit bad but she is fine...
Now that it is to late I got my camera set up... it is new and had to do some things either on line or phone before I could use it... well pictures will come later...

I am still full from dinner last night so will wait to noon to eat... not usually hungry in the morning anyway... have coffee and trying to move around a bit...

I hope you are all safe out there in camping land and those at home like me... smile often

Watching The Weather Channel and the storm has made it thru Ill and western Michigan and heading for eastern Michigan, Indiana, KY, TN and OH. Tornados possible. Stay safe everyone in it's path. Check in, too!!

Gloomy, rainy here. temp 51. Suppose to be clear tomorrow, then more rain for a few days. Our typical weather.

I've had the stomach flu since late Sun. night/early Mon AM. Not fun, but thankfully it's not severe. I am able to keep food down/in now but still feel queasy. I called in sick for bowling. :o Something I never do as I love the game.

Keep warm and dry everyone!

I was in the middle of the storm this morning in IL - watched the trees blow almost over - but must have been parked just right, as I rocked and rolled only a little. And the storms were all over and the rain down to nothing I couldn't live with - to go take pictures of the white squirrels in Olney. I'm a good week + behind on my blog, so who knows when you'll see those pics :)

Drove on to Indiana today - wasn't a bad drive. Waited to leave until 10 - to give the storms time to get way ahead of me. Wind has picked up here a little - but I've been settled at Carol's (asirimarco) for a couple hours. Been chatting with them and need to get back in there - but after Kathleen called earlier, wanted to come on myself and say, I'm just fine.

Will catch up on the other posts, etc, later. Hope everyone else is good, also!
