DAMP, CHILLY THURSDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

DAMP, CHILLY THURSDAY

Postby Colliemom » Thu Oct 21, 2010 7:12 am

Good Morning y'all,

It's a damp, chilly Thursday here this morning. Temp around 40 with a brisk wind making wind chills into 30's. Some places in Eastern U.P. and Northern Lower are seeing some mixed rain/snow showers. Haven't seen any around here as yet.

But it's going to be a stay insde type day, although I'm going to town this morning to do some shopping, banking etc. Then will see where the day goes from there.

For a day that I wasn't sure what I was going to get into yesterday, I got a lot done around my property here. Did some leaf blowing and got an area I had wanted to do all cleaned up. Then I got the hand saw and pruners out and went to work on some trees that needed some branches and lilmbs trimmed. A couple requiring the ladder. By the time I finished, I had quite a pile. Thought maybe I was going to have to go after whomever was running a woodchipper around me here and have them come over and chip it up :) But it really didn't take me that long to clean it up and haul it to my dump pile. Looks better around out there now. There are a few trees that could use more trimming, but that's a job for a tree service and it's not a neccessity right now.

Soos, I know how you feel about leaving home for the winter. I have those same feelings too, about maybe heading south for wintersomeday and also about selling this house although I know I need to downsize. But you aren't leaving forever and if you don't like it, you can always come home. At least you have a place to go to, whereas I have to find a place to park myself. If it doesn't work out for you and you find you miss home too much, next winter you can always just go down for a fw months, like maybe January-March or something like that. but I think once you get down there and get settled, time is going to fly by.

GOOD MORNING SUE AND ALL!

My daughter called me last night to see how I was making out in my preparations, and I guess she heard the panic/anxiety in my voice regarding getting my trailer through Saranac Lake and then through Tupper Lake on my way to the interstate in Watertown. She decided to drive down here a week from Friday night, spend the night helping me with last minute stuff, helping me hitch up Saturday morning, and following me through those two little towns on her way back to her house. I guess she figures that will ensure that I won't chicken out at the last minute and throw in the towel! And I think she will be right on. I will be alone for only a short time on this trip, but alone is alone is alone, and I will need to drive my trailer off the thruway into the outskirts of Syracuse to get to my friend's house where I will spend the night. Sigh----I will never outgrow my tendency to worry myself into a frenzy.

This week I need to practice using my cell phone via Sync in my truck---hands free phone usage, and how to use Sync's GPS to guide me to the house in Syracuse where I will stay. I will also need to program TomTom with many way points so I can also have a visual image of the highway and maps we will be using. I have never mastered using TomTom to do that, so maybe my daughter can help me on Friday night while she is here. He was most useful in helping Laura and me get through the construction we encountered in St. Augustine in FL last year, so I know he can be helpful.

It's 42 degrees, raining softly, and very, very dark out there today. This will be a perfect day to study maps, directions, make sure I have important phone numbers in my cell phone and in my address book, gather up my bill-paying online stuff, and all that. I have only a couple of other containers I need to put into the truck, and the trailer is already set to roll. I wish I didn't have so many more days to sit and contemplate and worry, but I need to wait for Sue to meet obligations she has in Rochester.

I picked up Molly's meds and papers at the vet's yesterday, got some last minute groceries to take me through this next week, put more stuff in the safe deposit box, scoped out my intended route through town, did a laundry, and wandered around in tiny little circles to disperse my useless energy!

Coffee tastes good---hope you all are having a good day doing something engaging and fun. Life is too short to always worry about things---I know this intellectually----but can I help doing it?? NO WAY! :(

Happy Thursday!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good Morning All - well we are home in Brown County - and that is sure what it is - all the pretty leaves are gone and only shriveled brown ones left. The lack of rain sure put an early end to the colors. Getting down to the 30s at night but supposed to be in mid 70s for next couple of days. The Driver keeps close eye on the weather - he really dislikes the cold.
We had an uneventful trip home. Thank goodness.
We are just putzing around - going into town - Columbus - for groceries and a foam topper for the rv's bed. Got it cleaned up yesterday and the laundry done - so now she just sits until we get on the road for MX. Our "housesitter" will be on a trip until Nov 13th so we may wait for him to return before heading out. Have a couple of last minute details to take care of - MX insurance and making sure all our paper work is in one place. But have plenty of time for that.
Really enjoyed my Nook while on our trip. Yesterday spent some time looking for ones to download for reading during the trip.
I really admire all you ladies who drive your own rigs - I am just a chicken. I don't even like to drive my car here in the hills. Give me an LA freeway any day. Soos you'll do just fine and then wonder what all the worrying was about.
Well safe travels to you all.

Soos, you aren't the only one who has anxiety about towning your TT through some of your towns. I'm not used to towing mine through cities either and if I ever decide to head south for a bit, I'm going to have to do it in order to get out of Michigan. I-75 winds through Detroit and the bigger cities of Cincinnatti etc., although that city has a bypass. 127 goes through Ann Arbor and down that way, so there is no way I can escape it. Guess we are so used to hauling on the rural roads that we don't get the city driving experience. Course if I go 100 miles south from here, I can get into it too. Heavier traffic around the middle of state. But we shall perserver :)
One thing I would like to ask, and that is, if you have a home in FL., why are you taking the TT?

Just a quick comment.....if I get tense (read scared!) in traffic
I try to use advice from an old horse trainer....
'Smile with all four cheeks!'
It works on a horse OR behind the wheel :) :).

I always have reminded myself that the driving and "stuff" is all a learn-able skill and that if other people can manage to grasp it I surely can if it important to me! Figure I may not be the best at it but probably will be better than average... I mean have you seen people out there in the world? And some of them walk out the wrong door! :?

A few weeks ago, we were camping with the kids and some grandkids. It was time to leave and I had already stowed my step. Well, I had to go back in the trailer for something and when I exited, I completely didn't think about the step not being there. Man, that was a shock and I was lucky nothing broke (my leg?). I can only imagine the thoughts that ran through that lady's mind the second before she hit the pavement. (I hope she heals completely and no more drinking on travel days...)

Good Afternoon from Normal... am as normal as I can be... have had a lazy morning and now it has turned into afternoon... my how time flies when you visit with a friend... just remember if I do not post before morning is over it has to be Beth's fault!! :D

Having a great time with Beth and Peaches... Shadow loves to have the company of Peaches... they are making friends and visiting like real people...

It is shower time for me... must wash off the awful sweats from going to the dentist yesterday... a very very very very costly visit when you are not expecting it... had to have a root canal in one of the teeth (an eye tooth) that holds the end of a bridge... I looked in the mirror and it would look awful if I did not do something with it... so he did a root canal not sealing the end because the tooth was so badly infected that there is no part of the tooth past the gum line... he said you must have been in some serious pain... ya think??? daaaa

have an antibiotic for 6 days then he will put the post in take an impression send that off and after about 2 weeks will be fitted and somehow attach to the remaining part of the bridge... this will all cost upwards of 2K... and life goes on... another bump in the road...
I will still be leaving as soon after this is finished for the land of the sun...

Have a super day everyone... Beth and I are going out to dinner tonight!!! Yippie... will be fun...

Kathleen I can sure sympathize with your dentist expense. I went to St Louis Monday to a dentist who does laser surgery for my gum problem over ONE tooth. An hour and a half later I left dazed and confused when she told me my whole mouth needed all this work and it would be ....$20,000 :o :o :o give or take to fix me right up!! I of course said no thank you I don't want a Hollywood smile I only want this one thing done. I had a consult with my dentist here yesterday who assured me that I did not have the problems she indicated.
I went to Paducah to the Quilt Museum with friends today and was totally amazed at the work that goes into the quilts and the intricate designs. The quilt that won this year was just breathtaking. It surprised me that I was nearly always able to tell even at a bit of distance which were hand stitched and which were machine quilted.
Soos, I understand your fear, I too have difficulties with getting going especially airplane trips, wish you were here so I could do some calming work on you. I did a presentation last night on Healing Touch showing mind clearing hand positions. Just by placing your finger tips VERY lightly on different places around your face and head you can have a person relaxed almost immediately.
I could try and email the sheet to you and you and you daughter could exchange treatments.
Carol most of our leaves are drab here too, we are still waiting on rain.
