I DID IT, IT WAS EASY!

Postby Readytogo » Wed Oct 20, 2010 4:29 pm

Hi everyone, I drove the MH home from the lake where I had it parked all summer, with one of my sons in the passenger seat. It was not nearly worth all the indecision I had had about doing it. I actually forgot at times I was driving somrthing 31 ft long. That may not be a good thing. I will take a couple more practice trips before jan, for I want to really enjoy my trip without being nervous. My sons and both families and me (and Pepper) are going to Gatlinburg (TN) for Thanksgiving. That will give me some more experience, I just wont drive thru Chattanooga and all that construction unless maybe on a holiday it will be really light traffic. I don't what they're constructing, but they've been doing since the 70s when my husband and I first started going there. For those of you on the road, be careful. Everyone else, enjoy what you're doing. I wish I could send everyone some of our lovely central Ala weather!! Wendy

GREAT news, Wendy. It's funny - but the just doing it part, is so right. And you sit there and forget what you're driving as you continue. Well, best not to forget, but it becomes so natural you think you've been doing it forever.

So glad that happened for you! I try to avoid major construction - but sometimes you hit it somewhere you didn't know. Holidays are usually easier - as are Sundays. That's why I prefer driving into/around/through big cities on Sundays. Less traffic, and the construction usually isn't going on.

I agree with Beth. Doing it just seems to come natural. Same for me. I debated about getting the TT cause I didnlt know if I would feel comfortable towing it. But after the first couple of trips, it started getting easier and like you, I have to remind myself there is a trailer behind me. I figure if I ever to a MH or some bigger trailer, it should be a piece of cake now.
Way to go girl.

Yup, knew you could do it! Good job. And it just gets easier and easier...why, I've found myself creeping up on 80mph on a couple of occasions. Scared the crap out of me.

Keep up the good work!

Good for you!! I personally know the feeling as I'm getting to feel totally comfortable with my MH and it's only 23ft. Makes a world of difference when that confidence kicks in. I find just "doing it" is much less scary than sitting and running scenarios through my mind. You go girl!! :D

Wendy, we knew you could do it, the only person you had to convince was yourself! Now that is out of the way and you know you can do it, your upcoming trip will be good experience for you with different situations. You'll do great!

Congrats Wendy on driving your rig. I know how excited I was after I drove our 37' Class A - after sitting for 3 horus waiting for Ron to come and get me...never again!

I drive at least once now when we are traveling....need to keep building up my confidence.

Have fun driving!

CONGRATULATIONS, Wendy!

I need some of that courage you have to make my first long trip with my trailer, and I hope I will begin to feel more confident as I travel along. Any hints you can pass on to a person with super-anxiety??

What do you do when you know you are going slower than most of the people on a two-lane highway (total of two, not two each way) and that people behind you are getting antsy to pass, but there is no place to pull off and let them by?

I am so excited about your big step!

Happy travels!

Soos, I also forgot to tell you this tok 4 yrs after my husband died and now I'm thinking all the trips I have missed. But THE SINGLE MOST thing that helped get over my anxiety I think was finding all these other ladies doing it! And you'll have another pair of eyes with you, that will the be the best thing and you'll have a ball!
