Cougar Buttes

Cougar Buttes is BLM land that has been designated as an OHV area (Off Hiway Vehicle, Soos). The area is incredibly beautiful and the jeeping is exciting. It's less than a 100 miles from my house, so it makes for a great w/e trip. I went up on Sat and came home yesterday.

Views from the front yard:

And then of course, there's the jeepin':

And then, just when you're having fun....Bam! You break your toy! (Some guys just can't be trusted to play nice  ) 2 hours to get back on the rocks...

All in all, a great w/e with beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery. Well worth the trip.

Great pictures, Sharon! I don't think I would enjoy that activity, however, but glad you had fun!

Ronnie would love it there, Vickie! Lots of side by sides play in the smaller rocks there, plus lots of sand to play in, too.

I love that dry, rocky country. Glad they got the toy fixed.

I personally don't know the answer to the name of them but would bet that once upon a time some one saw a cougar in that area! hence the name!
we hosted at a campground by the name of Upper Coffeepot not far from the Coffeepot Rapids...we wondered why the rapids where named that ....come to find out a trapper upset his canoe and lost everything except.........got it... the coffeepot! they named things for strange reasons.

Sharon that looks like fun! our first winter in Q we rented a Rhino and went to find dripping springs there in BLM land ..my thoughts was "Dripping springs??? in the desert?" this I got to see... only we were too late in the spring to see them dripping! but had a ball trying to find it
