I'm new...even though I'm pretty old

Welcome to the forum. It seems like my foggy brain remembers Laura, one of our members from Southern California, talking about snake proof classes for dogs. She has a Lab and I think he went through them to keep him from getting snake bit. How you would find something like that I don't know. I saw one of our Border Collie's get bit on the mouth by a snake. I couldn't find a shovel to kill it so don't know what kind it was. I called the vet and he didn't seem very concerned. Told me if it started swelling to bring her in. It must not have been poisonous because she didn't have a reaction.

Good Morning KD and a huge welcome... come in listen and ask and most of all share you have some excellent plans and ideas... please take time to heal no matter how amicably you part there is loss after 8 years of marriage... take care and write often these ladies have helped me through a cold winter in FL my first camping in winter and oh lordy was it cold... the death of my dear sister... pain... joy of getting a newer MH and anything else you need... how to fix this and that where to look for this and that... ah yes great ladies here... we are all sistas... sounds like you will fit in just great...

Isn't it exciting about to go out and pursue your dream For the life of me, I don't understand those who have no desire to see our great country but will go to other countries, where they have so many unknowns and obstacles (to each his own). I am still amongst the 'wannabees' but am always happy to see someone jump into the "lifestyle" , and live vicariously!

I love the fact that you have enough gumption to realize that, although you married a person you loved, when you discovered that he wasn't willing to actually share your love of how to enjoy life, you gracefully bowed out and set yourselves free! That's a biggy!

You are such a youngster, compared to me, that your title of this post makes me chuckle! If you are pretty old, I wonder what that makes me!

I just retired from teaching in June, and am planning to head south to FL where I have a house and where my son now has property where I can park my trailer for the winter. This will be my first time hauling out on the highways, and I am experiencing a mix of emotions from panic, elation, freedom, anxiety, joy, excitement----well, you get the idea! Luckilly I have convinced an old college suitemate of mine to accompany me for this first long trip! I live just south of the Canadian border in the Adirondacks of northernmost NY.

Can't wait to meet you on the road or in some beautiful campground somewhere!

Hi KD - welcome to the forum. You've got great plans to head out. I know you will love Arizona and Utah - lots of beautiful places to see there. Haven't seen any snakes there though but I'm sure they are around. Enjoy your travels. I'm on the west coast too.

Yay! Someone else from WA! Welcome! Welcome! I am in Shelton now but once lived in King County and worked at Boeing. I have been divorced for many years and enjoy the RV lifestyle. I am seriously thinking about going to AZ next March or so for about 3 weeks if the winter is not too bad and hangs on too long. Might have to look at doing it in April. If we end up there at the same time maybe we could meet up somewhere. Good luck with your RV search.

BTW: I don't think snakes are much of a problem during the winter. Have a friend that hiked the desert with her two Doxies with never a sign of a snake. However, there is a snake vaccine you can get for your dog.
