FAIR FRIDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

FAIR FRIDAY

Postby Nasoosie » Fri Oct 08, 2010 7:36 am

GOOD MORNING ALL!

My friend, Sue, left yesterday, and arrived back in Rochester by about 4:30 last evening. It was a really neat visit, with lots of reminiscing about our freshman year of college together in Cambridge, MA! That was the year I put on 35 pounds between the first of September and Thanksgiving! Our dorm was a stone's throw from a Brigham's ice cream parlor and a home-made doughnut shop! Our meals were homecooked and family style with platters of yummy stuff every day at the dorm! I had never had free reign to eat whenever and whatever I wanted before, and I surely did go a tad overboard! My mother must have been totally shocked to see my pudgy body when I came home for Thanksgiving!

Sue might be able to swing the trip to FL with me! She would drive from Rochester to Syracuse, park her car at my friend, Lorrie's, house about 5 minutes from the airport, and meet me there to head south! I will fly her back to Rochester, Lorrie has agreed to pick her up and bring her home to get her car from her driveway. If Sue can find someone to care for her cat for two to three weeks, she can also have a FL vacation! I am really excited about that prospect, as you can all imagine. I know that, after this first trip on the highways with my trailer, I will have way more confidence in doing the trip by myself. I have a bunch of air travel hours on one of my credit cards----does anyone know how I can use those to buy a ticket for Sue? Will I have to try it in my name, or can I use her name? Guess I could always call Capital One, but am wondering if any of you have ever used these miles?

Today is cool at 41 degrees, but sunny, so far. I think my daughter said she willl be coming back to help me this weekend---I am hoping. Meantime, I will work at getting the lawn furniture stored in the barn for the winter, and getting the old trailer ready to haul/back into the shelter. Also will finish winterizing the leanto and cover the paddleboat at the pond. I guess my alarm system is now officially hooked up to my contacts, the fire company, and the cops, so I need to be careful that I don't accidentally set if off!

I have another day to sub at my favorite elementary school next week, which will mean a bit more money for gas for traveling. I was called for the day I was having the alarm system installed, also, but had to decline.

I hope I can persuade my daughter to take my plants for the winter----I have had most of them for over 30 years, and I'm quite attached to them! Each day I think of something else I need to deal with!

Here's hoping Friday will be a fun day for us all. Stop in and let us know what's up! Coffee is hot!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

It sounds like things are coming together for you Soos; I'm happy for you.

I'm getting ready for dds & families coming tomorrow. Planning to cook turkey, as we won't all be together for Thanksgiving. So, I'll do some of the cooking today.

Also busy making Silver Lining "mine." Deciding what goes in & where, what isn't really needed, putting up a few strategic hooks, etc. I have reservations for camping at Silver River Oct. 30th...for "Phantoms in the Forest" special event. I don't know if I'll get out anywhere before then.

We need to be thinking about dates for the FL GTG in January. (For future reference, NOW through early Dec. is the best time for a GTG in Florida, weather-wise. Jan.-Feb. are always the coldest months. Not usually as bad as last year, however) Anyway those planning to or thinking about attending, please look at the reservation calendar for Silver River State Park and suggest dates that will work. Some sites are already booked for Jan. http://www.reserveamerica.com/campsiteSearch.do

Link to Silver River SP: http://floridastateparks.org/silverriver/default.cfm

Another option with more availability & a little farther south near Tampa....ie warmer:

Hillsborough River State Park: http://floridastateparks.org/hillsboroughriver/default.cfm
Reservation calendar for January: http://www.reserveamerica.com/campsiteCalendar.do
Lots of hiking trails, & kayaking on the river. Canoes for rent too.

Note: Tampa RV Supershow is Jan. 12-16. Camping is also available there with admission to the RV show included & nightly entertainment. Elec., but no water & dump. Details: http://www.frvta.org/supershow/2011/documents/2011rallyform.pdf

If interested we could do a few days at Hillsborough first, then arrive at the RV show as a group and camp together....then maybe back to Hillsborough for a day to dump? Hillsborough River SP is just a few miles north of the RV show on the same road.

So, check it out and let me know what you think about where & when. I will post this in the GTG section too. Please respond in that thread, not here. Thanks.

Good Morning Ladies... it is a beautiful day here simply wonderful fall... my girlfriend in MI sent me a picture of the fall colors this morning... oh how nice but means snow is coming soon...

Soos I know you can use your miles for someone else as that is what my daughter did when I had to fly to NJ from FL in March... so glad you are getting help with some of the things to get ready to leave... sure hope your daughter can take the plants, you should be able to take one or two and sit them outside where you park that would make it more like home...

Today I will type up the list of questions for the look see at the Jayco tomorrow... I am getting real excited so the list will help keep me grounded also my daughter and son in law going along will help... must look in every nook and cranny... and ask ask ask... for some this is such a small purchase but for me it is a large one... I am thankful that the children approve and will go along with me... if I get it I hope the bed is a full one as I can use my sleep number mattress in there if it is... oh my now look I have already bought it in my mind not good at all... :D

Today I must vacuum and dust I can write my name on all of my furniture... wonder where that stuff comes from... I once heard it was dead skin cells... wonder if that was true...

Well enough of this silly talk... at least for the moment... have a great day everyone... smile often... keeps the face toned...
Kathleen
While I was busy typing Liz came in... good morning mother of silver lining... have a nice early thanksgiving...

Dust Mites - they feed off your dead skin cells and then they poop...
that makes the majority of dust in a home. Gross, eh?
Pet dander is another major contributor of dust.

I think I'll go vacuum now, including the furniture. :D

Gross Vacuum Cleaner Picture

Postby mitch5252 » Fri Oct 08, 2010 11:00 am

..

Now, keep in mind that:

1) The canister was empty when I started vacuuming,
2) I vacuum the carpets almost EVERY day (at least 5 days/week)
3) This was from only one 8' x 12' WOOL (wool "sheds" a lot) carpet

To quote Soos - Dust Mites - ACK! (I'm sure living out in the country during harvest doesn't help much, either!)

Well, I'm off to vacuum the rest...

Thanks a lot Mitch, now I know I have things like that around my house. :o With 5 house cats I have dust bunnies(fur balls) the size of kittens.

Soos, I don't know anything about using points to buy tickets but I'm pretty sure the ticket will have to be in the name of the person flying. Since 9/11 they are very strict with ID's. Hope your friend can go with you to Florida. About 20 years ago I had a lot of stressful things going on and I was having to drive to Mississippi every other weekend. I was having panic attacks when I would have to go over the big bridges in my motorhome. Anyone that know me knows that I'm not the type of person that is usually like that. Stress can make you crazy. Now when I travel the same roads I wonder what my problem was.

I hope I can go to the next Florida GTG. I don't know what will be going on next week so don't know what dates would be good or not. What ever date you all pick I will attend if I can.

We are having some beautiful weather but now it's getting dry and no rain in sight.

Mitch the thing to do with that wool carpet is pitch it out! That would cut down on your work considerably, does wool always shed like that or is it a shag. If I can't see the dust mites and they don't bite me, I don't care enough if I have them to vacuum every day! I vacuum once a week if my mood is good, the stars are aligned and no one calls with a better offer.

Soos you can use your miles to buy someone else a ticket but you have to give their full name EXACTLY AS IT IS on their drivers license.

Has everyone read or seen the DVD The Secret, we watched it last night in my Hypnosis class and it was very interesting. I need to readjust my thoughts as the law of attraction seems logical. When we fear or stress about something that is the energy we attract to us, so everyone think only happy thoughts today and expect everything to work out well.

Persimmons are getting ripe and I'm going to look for a tree, I know where one used to be but after last years storm many trees are now gone.

This is my first (and last) wool carpet. The rest of my carpets don't shed anywhere near that bad, but the dust/dirt/mitepoop is still there. I figure if I vacuum the wool one enough, it'll get bare spots and then I can get another one. As it is, it was too expensive to just pitch! :(

Positive thoughts are in my mind! I'm positive I have to go finish vacuuming!!

You don't want my opinion on The Secret. They take it waaaaaaaaay too far - to the extent that a woman raped brings it on herself (if she didn't have the wrong/negative thoughts, it wouldn't happen). Same with jobless people/homeless, etc. They actually believe that if you think yourself in a home, you'll get one. Needless to say, it's not a philosophy I like - although the basic tenets are good (as they are in most off-the-wall things). Of their biggest proponents in the movie, ask how much trouble they are in - financially or legally. Guess they don't follow their own rules?

Sorry - some of that stuff just gets me - cuz they get people's money - and it's nothing new, except how they package it - and in this case - never, ever tell me the woman who was raped was asking for it! Or the child who dies of some illness, etc etc etc. No matter how much I positively think of money - it won't manifest itself if I don't do something proactive to get it.

Well obviously we didn't see the same movie Beth, there was nothing about anyone being raped or sick children in the one I saw.. It was only talk about positive thinking and the law of attraction. I would never recommend anything that said a woman brought rape on herself. Maybe there is an older version, most of the videos we see in class are really old. I don't think positive thinking is off-the-wall. There are a lot of scriptures on faith so it isn't an new concept.

You have to see them outside the movie - the movie is just a short piece of it. Yes, I've seen the movie, also. And yes, I agree, positive thinking is GREAT - and the premises behind it are great - but when you get into it - they go too far. This has been around now for several years - and if all you see is the movie, you'll like it.

I agree that there are waves that are transmitted from everything that lives (electrical waves)... but I and anyone of us that has lived past 50 have seen some of these ideas many many times presented in one way or another... I watched a part of the 25 minute intro on the Secret on the internet... how sad for those that have a negative personality... they are doomed... no hope to pull themselves up...

I was the director of a support group for several years and so many of the drug and alcohol addicted seemed to cycle; those from severe disfunction it took years of hard work for them to come up and out of their troubles... the drug and alcohol addicted needed help and support for the rest of their lives... most of us need help in one way or another and do not wish ourselves to have bad things happen to us (conscious or unconscious)... if you get inside the heads of those that are espousing these theories you will soon find they also have their issues... give me a week with one of them... ha ha ha

There are very few Martin L Kings, Mother Teresas', Billy Grahams,Tony Robins, Einstines, George Orwels, Helen Kellers I could go on but we each have a side, if we look, that is extra special not our whole being because we are both negative and positive combined... and most of us (dare I say all) are unbalanced... in some aspect the weaker part is the stronger than the other another segment of our being... but even fewer of us listen to the inner voice we have the voice that warns us of things to come...

We need each and everyone of us even out those of us that are so very weak... you are not better than I because you are strong... you are strong because you lift me up...

I do not know what they were espousing in the movie but I do know we each have strong, strong parts and have risen up from hard places... some of us give thanks for that strength to one thing or another I give thanks to God for mine...

I would like to close with one of my favorite poems by John Donne:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

thank you for your listen ear Kathleen
