Thursday with Sunshine

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday with Sunshine

Postby dayspring39 » Thu Oct 07, 2010 9:42 am

Good Morning Ladies time to rise and shine I have the coffee on and a nice visit to go with it... 56 here will be mid 70s later but a summer heat spell will be here tomorrow again... not time for indian summer yet...

My granddaughter Joy finally went back to school on Tuesday after a long bout with mono... she had not went to school this year yet... she will have to drop one class and may just be a teachers aid in another... that is hard for a 16 year old but that disease makes the body need rest for a while...

Soos does the oil filled heater use much electricity? how about the space it takes up? do you use that rather than the furnace because of no noise? just full of questions here...

Beth looked at the pictures of the MH I am thinking about and she gave me a lot of questions to ask and things to look for... have to have them on a list so I won't get starry eyed and glaze over not looking or asking the right questions... please everyone here if you have anything you think I should ask let me know... I do see a line of rust where they did not put plumbers tape on the water inlet... that I can fix fast... minor thing...

I have a few things to do today so will go and wish you all a happy Thursday...

GOOD MORNING KATHLEEN AND ALL!

Thanks for opening the kitchen! My friend, Sue, and I were finishing up our visit at the real-time coffee table this morning, as she had to take off and head home. It was a nice, but short, visit. Last night we went to Issy's for supper with her, some other mutual friends, and her son. We had a good time sitting in front of her propane fireplace as it was too rainy to have a real fire in the yard.

My alarm system has been installed, and it will be turned on for real by about 5:00 tonight! (That is, the monitoring company and my contact list will be activated to respond to alarms.) In the meantime, I have been reading my instruction manual and have been 'practicing' with the various settings I can do. It's really very simple, and I solved the problem of arming it with the motion sensors bypassed for when I leave Molly inside! Also, it automatically bypasses the motion sensors when I arm it with the STAY command, which means the door sensors are armed but anybody can move around inside, as long as no one opens a door to the outside! Then everything becomes armed....it's an amazing system. It has three door sensors, three motion detectors, two smoke alarms, one heat sensor, one water on the floor of the basement sensor, and one temperature sensor set for 49 degrees so that if it drops below that inside here, people on my list will be notified so they can see what's up with the heat in here. If power is lost, it also notifies someone on my contact list. It will provide peace of mind for me, for sure. Now I have to teach those in charge how to arm and disarm it.

It's a cold day here today---43 degrees---and very overcast with drizzly rain. I am building a woodfire to see just how sensitive these new smoke alarms are----hopefully, not so sensitive they go off when I open my woodstove door to stoke the fire! This will be a good practice, as the fire department isn't hooked in yet!

More sorting to do, a large tarp to repair with Gorilla tape to cover the paddleboat with for the winter, woodpiles to cover with tarps, my old trailer needs to be moved into the shelter for the winter when my daughter gets here this weekend to help guide me as I back it in.

My friend, Sue, says she might be able to accompany me to FL with the trailer! That would be so neat, if she can manage it! I have a bunch of airflight points from a credit card I have which I need to see if I can use to buy her a ticket to fly home. She would fly from Orlando to Syracuse where I have another friend with space enough for her to leave her car, once I check to make sure that's ok. It would be such an easier trip this first time with two more eyes watching for places to stop and rest and gas up. But I hate to get my hopes up yet. She said she can really use a vacation to FL, and we could all have Thanksgiving down there with my son and his wife-to-be's new house! Sigh---we shall see.

I use the oil-filled heater because it is silent, keeps heating even when it turns off due to the oil inside being hot, takes very little space, is on wheels and can be easily moved to wherever you need it, and maintains a much more even temperature in my trailer than the on-and-off furnace. For fast heat, however, you can't beat the furnace! Sometimes I get it warmed up with the furnace and then shut it down and turn on the electric heater. I see them on sale at Kinney Drugs for $39.00. All electric heaters use a bunch of power, no getting around that. The one I have has lots of settings, so you can have it anywhere from low to high and in between. It's thermostat will shut it off when it gets warm enough. It's disadvantage is that it's heavy....adds weight to your overall weight capacity.

Time to get to work now that it's no longer morning. Hope to hear from a bunch of you later on!

Good Noon everybody! Ronnie and I decided to go back to the Cameron RV Park for a few days and relax and fish. I posted pics last time we were here, nothing but hook-up's and rock. Well there is the fishing pier, bathrooms and picnic pavilions. It's just peaceful sitting here watching the ships, barges and boats go by.

It's been cold, wet and rainy here for the past 3 days. Tell me again why I came home? Especially with the Boy Chick calling and telling me how beautiful the weather is in Arkansas! Of course it is, I left! Supposed to get up to 72 today, but it's gonna have to do some gettin' to get there. It's been crazy around here, daughter went into the hospital Mon evening with a goofy EKG, she's out now, but without any kind of a diagnosis. They still don't know what's the matter with her. I'm thinking stress, she's been under a lot lately. Her heart checks out ok and strong, so they don't seem to be to worried about that, but aren't ruling it out, either. Another guess is pluerisy, which would explain the chest pain but not the EKG. In other words, the Dr.'s are scratching their butts and running tests. Kind of like I was at work trying to troubleshoot a system. She seems ok and is glad to be home with her family. A little prayer probably wouldn't hurt at this point, especially for the Dr.'s to get their head out of their azz and come up with a diagnosis. (Can you tell I'm not real crazy about her Drs??)

Needless to say, Hope still isn't unloaded, just enough to keep me going for the past few days, so need to get out there and get started. OR, could just put the few things I've taken out and hit the road again! Which would be the easiest to do, 'specially since Sam can't seem to decide where he's supposed to be and I have to chase him out of there everytime I go in to get something. Poor little guy, he hops up on the dash and looks sad 'cause I put his dish away and his food is in the house.

Vickie, have fun, catch lots of fish and relax, you deserve it after all of the hard work you and the other doofus went thru for that fabulous GTG!

Good afternoon, everyone!

Been gone a while and we got back late yesterday afternoon. Now, it's time to unpack and winter clean the Mobile Marlin! :( I also managed to ram a hole in the outside shell with the sway bar. I had rested it against the propane tanks and it slipped backward without my knowing it. So, I heard this CRUNCHING sound when I started to lower the trailer onto the hitch. Luckily, I stopped cranking immediately - otherwise, that steel bar would have gone clear through to the inside. We stopped by the dealer on the way home and I'll take it in next week - the hole is going to turn into an outdoor "porch" light with an on/off switch! Better than having to rip off and replace all that silver metal stuff!

Soos, couple other things your new alarm system should be able to do:

1) temporary passcode. For instance, if your code is 1234, you can set a "temporary" or "guest" code as, say, 5555. The deal is that the system MUST BE ARMED with 5555 in order for 5555 to disarm it. So 5555 can ONLY be used when YOU want it to be, like to let in a housekeeper or repair person.

2) My motion sensors allow for up to a 40# dog to roam freely around the house, even when armed AWAY or NIGHT STAY. I believe there are also motion sensors that allow for an 80# dog.

3) It's possible to bypass any zone for one time. For instance, I wanted to leave our attic door open during this summer to let some cooler downstairs air up there. The attic door is armed. When arming the system for the night, I just bypassed it on those nights I left it open.

4) Do you know your "silent" alarm code? Using that code silently alerts the monitoring company to call the police in case you're under duress.

5) You should have a CHIME, which alerts you if a door is opened, although the system is not armed to call the monitoring company. George uses the CHIME feature when I'm gone and he's in the back of the house and can't see someone coming up the driveway. Let's him know when I come home so he can jump up quickly and look like he's been busy... :?

Then who was that tall lady with the red hair(not the short one, I know who that was) that was working so hard? Did we acquire a new sistah that I didn't meet????

I don't know who that was. I guess I must have missed her.
There was, however, a taller strawberry BLONDE woman who was just hanging around being mean...

glad you made it home safely...

Sharon,
My vote is to reload what you unloaded, grab the dog and hit the road. You are missing some absolutely beautiful weather here in Louisiana and Arkansas. Wish you lived closer. Is there anyone that you missed seeing that you could go and see now?? ;) How about getting to Florida and spending some time touring around and helping Liz find a place for the GTG and then, walaa , you are already there and don't have to drive all the way from California to get to the GTG

Now Mitch,
Where in the heck did you and George go camping?? Vicki told us where she went and is still there. Wish I was sitting on a riverbank fishing.

This sounds like a helluva way to get a new porch light installed, Mitch!!!

I can do this, I read about it, but not enough to know how to do it yet. It's called babysitter or maid option on mine!

2) My motion sensors allow for up to a 40# dog to roam freely around the house, even when armed AWAY or NIGHT STAY. I believe there are also motion sensors that allow for an 80# dog.

Molly jumps up on her enclosure (which I no longer enclose her in) which puts her at human level in front of the front door, and also jumps around like a gazelle----so regardless of her poundage, she is like a small pony walking/jumping around! Therefore, I will bypass those motion sensors when she will be here and I will be gone, when I arm it for EXIT or LEAVE.

3) It's possible to bypass any zone for one time. For instance, I wanted to leave our attic door open during this summer to let some cooler downstairs air up there. The attic door is armed. When arming the system for the night, I just bypassed it on those nights I left it open.
This is good to know! And this is how I will disarm/bypass the motion sensors in here when I leave Molly inside.

4) Do you know your "silent" alarm code? Using that code silently alerts the monitoring company to call the police in case you're under duress.
I think my system has 3 'Silent' buttons on both the remote and the main keypad to send an urgent message to the fire department, the cops, and the ambulance/emergency squad. I have to recheck this and ask my installer about how to do that, and if it's silent. I believe it is.

HeeHee! I, too, have this chime option, like a doorbell that nobody presses when they walk through a door, with no alarm set off other than my brain! I like this option, as I have no doorbell other than a wreath of sleighbells on my front door!

Thanks for the input!

We were at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park at Rend Lake in Illinois and then in my sister's front driveway, also in Illinois.

Wish I was sitting on that riverbank with ya! :(
