River Rising

I took some pics yesterday and today of the results of the rising Mississippi River here in Prairie du Chien. It's not peaked yet, but I'm leaving town tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I'll get over and take pictures tomorrow before I go and add them. Meantime:

I hate to see rising flood waters ever since we got flooded in 2006. I feel so sorry for the people that get water in their houses.

Funny that your name is Beth and your sister is Diane, my sister's name is Beth and my middle name is Dianne. :D

Enjoy all your reunions and family visits.

You are on a trip with multiple reunions....family, friends, high school, houses.....enjoy the memories and the pensive thoughts.... Hope the weather and the river are kind to all.

Wow...a lot of water. Yes it's sad to think about the damage this flooding might cause. You had a nice house there.

I saw all the flooding shown on the news. Yikes! Hope it recedes quickly.

Looks like the pics I took last spring of the park on the local Crow River (which is flooded again now). The Minnesota River the goes thru Chaska where I was just working at Great Clips is flooded and the main road thru town is closed as are several others in that area. The lake is also really high for this time of year.

We (my sis, bil, Peaches and I) walked down to the river after dinner. I took my camera, but it was past sunset when we got there. It's risen more and is expect to rise another foot to 2 feet before cresting. PdC is in good shape for this flooding - but many towns are not, and I worry about what happens with some of them.

Truthfully, most of the areas along the Mississippi that flood have flooded many times. You'd think people and towns would get houses out of those paths. BUT the water is in front of one building now that never gets it at this level. Some of the people who work for the town say they think it has to have something to do with the remodeling the place is going through. Somehow, someway, something has changed that is drawing water there.

The COE Park I had planned to stay at for a night or two is closed early for the season because of the flooding. I made a good choice heading here early. Sometimes my brain actually works!

Vickie, is there anyone named Bob, Joy or Louise in your immediate family? I'll really get worried, if so.

The cousins I am planning to see (hopefully) this weekend in Moline, used to live right on the Rock River and got flooded out every single spring! They lived there a long time before they finally decided to move uphill. The last time I was there, we drove by where they used to live and the houses along there are all on stilts now.

hadn't heard on the news that the river was rising ...rather late in the year to be doing it isn't it? Where my husband was raised at is where the Iowa River and the Cedar River met and become one....when we were out there a few years ago it was during flood stage....they called it the 500 year flood ..Columbus Junction is on the west side of the river Fredonia on the east side of the river a mere 1 mile or so during that time if you wanted to go to one or the other because of the flood waters through out the state you would have had to drive think it was 300 mile to go to one or the other... it boogles the mind at the amount of water that can converge on the area
good pictures Beth
be safe and enjoy your reunions

Fall floods aren't as common as spring/early summer, but if there is enough rain/water, they can happen anytime. Luckily for PdC it's been fairly dry here, so the flooding isn't as bad as if they'd had worse weather during the year. Further south along the IL/IA border there are higher flood levels expected. At least that's the last I heard. Also the first I heard - why the COE was planning the closing of cg's along the river there.

Great photos, Beth.
Strange to see the flooding there. I remember thinking the Miss. River looked very low at Memphis and Helena crossings on the AR trip. The southern end could use more water.
