Tahlequah, OK

Postby retiredhappy » Thu Sep 23, 2010 3:44 pm

The Branson GTG is officially over. Sharon pulled out around 7:30 am. Carole and I said our goodbyes to Tina and Beth and we pulled out about 9:30a. Really scenic drive to Tahlequah OK down a beautiful, windy tree-lined road. My kind of driving. We got to Tahlequah about 3PM and are staying at the Tahlequah Indian RV Park behind a gas station. From that description wouldn't you expect a tacky park with lots of old trailers in it? Well, as you can see from the pictures its a nice park right off the highway and we have it all to ourselves for $10 a night. We're gonna head out in a bit for Indian tacos - yum - fry bread- my favorite food in all the world.

Glad to hear you are all settled in. And that cg looks great. Glad site isn't anything compared to the name! Heard from Sharon early today that she made it to her cg and is settled in also. I'll be here (in Branson) till Sat. Talk of possible rain tomorrow, and I'm not in a hurry, going to clean inside and relax for a day. Enjoy your trip back to TX ladies. It was a great time - sorry it had to end.

Nice looking cg! I'll have to make a note of where that is for future reference. I'm hoping to get all my paperwork in order tomorrow & be able to get started on Saturday. See you in Kerrville!

Very nice karen! Looks nice and cool there. Thankfully the Cowpatty RV Park in West Fork, Ar didn't live up to its name...not a cow patty in sight! It's actually kind of nice and very quiet. The owners are really nice and bikers to boot. I'll be here until Monday visiting with relatives and boy chick is coming up tomorrow to visit with this branch of the family, too. Had dinner with my cousin at the Golden Corral....don't think I'm gonna want to eat for a while...

I'm glad those of you on your way have found good campgrounds to spend the night. I was thinking today, looking at the maps and thought maybe since last year the GTG was in TN and this year in AR, maybe we should find a good place in OK for next year. The central area of the US seems to be good for a lot of people. What do yall think? Just a thought. :D

That cg Karen is at looks nice...wonder if there is any sightseeing around there...and of course we need a place to launch kayaks! If you keep moving it east, another couple of years and we'll be having it in Ca and I won't have to go far!

Yeah! Sharon got her Golden Corral Fix......and Vickie the trails can be both short and long. :) It is just the bike/hike trails that are likely to endanger you   ....maybe we can get you a bike to keep up with speedy Ronnie

This would make a great GTG park BUT the only thing to do in Tahlequah (that we know of) is the Cherokee Heritage Museum. There are some lakes around here but not close to the park.

Then there's this COE cg on Sardis Lake near Clayton, OK where I stayed this summer. Nice spots on the water.

I know there are places worth going/seeing in OK - but I must admit I find less of them there than any state. So I just did another google check - and had to laugh hard at this list of "interesting" attractions. I'm listing them (all of them) in order they listed them:

Atomic Cannon and Mule Gun: Alternative Universe Arms, Ft Sill (not going on my list)

The Blue Whale, Catoosa (on route 66)

Oral Roberts Prayer Tower, Tulsa

World's Largest Praying Hands, Tulsa

OK County 66, Arcadia

And the one I think most fitting for the women's group:

Cow Chip Throwing Capital of the World, Beaver

Liz, that lake sure looks inviting.
