I have been lurking a long time and I have really enjoyed reading your adventures, day-to-day comments, as well as looking at your set-ups. My daughter and I have been trying to move cross country - she lives in Delaware with my 3 grandchildren and I live in Texas. We've been trying to move to Michigan, but it's been hard because of us not knowing a lot of things (we're working on it though). We have been waffling back and forth on getting an RV vs. renting a little place until we can buy what we want but there are a few roadblocks in our way. We are looking forward to getting an RV no matter what, though! I've been a motorcycle rider for many years and love love love the outdoors and traveling. I sold my scooters when my mother got sick, so I could take care of her. When she passed away, I haven't purchased another bike, and I won't be my real self until I get one. I'm just introducing myself and I am definitely a newbie in the RV world.

Do any of you ladies have children or grandchildren you travel with, or that come visit you when you are RV'ing? When we get this RV, my daughter will be traveling as I still have a job right now. I am off every other Friday, so I'll be stationery a minute. From our research, she likes a Class A, however I like the Class C's. We might get a Class C for the sleeping room, from what we can gather.

Well, I'm looking forward to "meeting" you all and learning and loving RV'ing, and your experiences and stories.

Would you be living in the RV in Michigan during the winter? ( It gets mighty cold and snowy up there in the wintertime!) Do you have any pets? We love our animals around here! And we love photos, so once you get an RV, you gotta post pics of it, inside and out!
I currently live in Minnesota but am about to move to southern California with Linda (Bikerchic) who lives in her RV full-time. We are leave for CA on October 4th from Des Moines, IA.
Good luck with your search for an RV and a motorcycle! (There are a few gals on here who ride too.) Feel free to ask lots of questions! These gals know tons about RV's, driving them, fixing them, etc.

I know about those cutie-pie pets ya'll have - they are darlings. My beautiful tortoise-shell cat, Hazel, died a few years ago. She was 23 years old, girl, so I said I would hold off on getting another pet, though it's been hard not to. I'm in my mid-50's and this is the first time I've ever been without a pet.

I heard about those Michigan winters ... once we read about trying to secure an RV for the winter, I decided we didn't know enough to risk it. We plan to get an RV by the end of this month, and she was going to winter in Las Vegas, NV and I can visit her during my breaks from work. I'm a pretty good mechanic from working on my cars and bikes, but I'm sure I'll need some instruction on the whole RV gamit.

Welcome, Norene - so glad to have you with us!

It'll be fun for you to look at various rv's and find what will work for you. Some of us are at a gtg right now and we visited each other's rigs today. One lady here has a Class C that would easily fit all of you (2 sets of bunk beds in the back, the overcab bed (and both the sofa and dinette can be made into beds. Couldn't help but think of that one when you talked about all of you in it! You just have to look until you find one you can afford and that will work for all of you.

An rv in the northern climates can be challenging. It can be done, but with difficulty. It'll be much easier if she's in NV. Will you be staying in TX? There are plenty of ladies in TX - you could probably meet some of them.

Welcome Norene! Glad our day-to-day comments didn't scare you off. I'll be looking forward to hearing about your RV search and possible move to MI. I have only traveled through there once; it is a beautiful state. It's still on my list to visit again.

I have the rig you guys need. Bunkie, has lots of room and would just about fit your family for living in full-time. You could have the children sleeping in the back bunks and one bunk could serve for the extra clothing and other important things, Mom could have the queen over cab and when you made a visit you could have the sofa, a jack-knife bed which sleeps great. There are inside photos of when I first got him in the 'Show your Rig' section, probably last November maybe December. Travels really well, too.

Last winter I did the Texas Valley, but you know how cold it was in the San Antonio area and that's where Bunkie and I were when it was 15 degrees in late Dec and early Jan. We did fine, but I wouldn't do that all winter - simply not a cold weather person. Currently in AR for the GTG but will be heading out Friday. If you are close on the way we could maybe stop by for a hello. Will be caravaning with the Nice Vicki, Yakn1 and will be angled toward San Antonio after entering TX at Texarkana. We have a jello overnight spot at Lake of the Pines COE park.

You will love meeting these ladies that are so talented in rearraning their rigs and making them just that much better, then there is Vicki who is restoring her Perris Pacer, named Tilley. Just lots of things to learn about this lifestyle. Hope to see ya soon.

I am also in mid fifites (just turned 55) yesterday. I purchased my first RV in Dec 2009. I plan to live and travel in mine when I retire in 3 years!!

Sharon, that's a cute scooter you have. I live and work in Houston and I am due for a vacation. I plan to visit my daughter in Delaware in a couple of weeks, and we will go RV-looking. Her and the kids went out a couple of weeks ago looking in their area, she sent me some photos. The kids wanted every RV they went into and looked at, and didn't want to go home without one. (I don't blame them either.)

Our money is kind of funny, so we're looking for something in our tight budget to start with that we can live with for about a year until we get ourselves together. We're looking on Craigslist, eBay, the newspaper, out on the street, everywhere. We'll see ...

Norene welcome to the forum. Enjoy looking at RV's and choosing the one right for you. Michigan is so cold in the winter, but sure you get one with a great heat system that works if you are planning to stay in Michigan in it during the winter.

It's so nice to meet another independent woman with RV intentions! Whatever you decide to get, or do, take your time getting there! I jumped into RVing with a trailer way too big for just me and my dog, Molly! (It was an end of the year sale price that hooked me!) The next year I traded 'down' about 10 feet shorter! Now I am thinking I maybe should have gone with a Class C, or large B. Sigh! I need to be satisfied with what I have for now, I guess! I have been living in my trailer since March this year, practicing for going 'full-time' with half of that spent here in my home yard!

Hope to see more of you, and meet you down the road before too long. I just retired from teaching this past June, so this is a new life for me.
