St Louis Day 5

Our last day we visited the brewery. This had to be scheduled at the end of our trip so the boy could have some samples. The entrance and then the first stop on the tour is the horse paddock where these guys were enjoying the sunshine. Then, inside the stable which is listed on the historic register. Look at this chandelier, one of the Mr. Busch's bought it from the 1904 World's Fair. These two also ride on the wagon or run along side it Our next stop was the something or other cold aging room, where the temperature was 50 degrees, a welcome change from the 95+ outside. One of these stainless tanks holds the equivalent of 200,00 six packs! And these are the famous beechwood chips used only by Anheiser Busch
These pipes run all over the complex from one building to another and carry beer from one stage of processing to another. Here are the kids again, by another tank And here are some stats from one line in the bottling and packaging part of the brewery. This concludes your guided tour of the Gateway city. It got that nickname because it served for so many years as the gateway to the west. Funny how now it is almost smack dab in the middle of the country.

That was a neat tour. I always look forward to their Christmas commercials with the Clydesdales.

I loved it when they owned Sea World in Orlando, with Clydesdales and all. They also had a neat little cafe/bar on a lagoon with flowers and exotic fish, lit at night, where they gave out plastic cups of various beers. As my house down there is only about 5 minutes from Sea World, we used to utilize those freebies and the beautiful setting every night! Unfortunately, Annheiser Busch sold out, and I am told the place is not the same any more. What a shame.

The tour concludes with free samples. i assumed it would be of the tiny Dixie cup variety but it is 2 - 11 oz beers for every person 21 years or older. My son was 21 years and 2 days and ordered an upscale brand called Stella Artois just because it's a premium. He drank about an ounce. I never have cared for the taste of beer either but finally agreed to try a little bit of a blueberry one which tasted a bit like a wine cooler, but still like beer. I did buy a create-your-own 6 pack of some exotic types for my older son who does enjoy the taste.
