Aw, that's so sweet. Be careful Mitch, you're going to ruin your "bad" reputation. :)

Was just reading that if when they try to steer people/animals away and it doesn't work, they have some signal that means for the babies to run. The babies can even dive under water. However they can't fly yet. It's neat to learn about them. Smart birds.

All the pictures were wonderful. Thanks once again for sharing. Roe and Peaches look like they are naturals for this lifestyle.

Roe and Peaches get along really well- they pretty much ignore each other. I had an errand to run yesterday - Liz and Roe came with Peaches and me. At first Peaches looked at me like "he's getting in HERE?" Then they shared the back seat with no problem. They wag tails when they see each other, then pay no attn. It's cute.

Beth and Liz, you are both making me so wish I was somewhere that I could get my kayak out! Beautiful pics...really enjoying them. Thanks

Paulette, We have to do something to make these 100 degree days with umpth humidity bearable. It makes us enjoy them :) I think I'm so used to the heat that I said to Liz I should have brought a blanket to put over me in the kayak at 4:30 am. LOL

We have Killdeer here too and the dummies make nests in our gravel driveway. I put a yellow bucket by the nest so we won't run over it. As many cats as we have I don't know how they manage to hatch any eggs. The babies are ready to run shortly after they hatch. They use to run one of our Border Collies crazy chasing them. They would fly just off the ground in big circles. He never did figure out that he wasn't going to catch one.

what great pictures, and the dogs look to be having fun. I'd be afraid Gracie would
poke holes in it with her long nails. But it would sure be fun I think to take her along.

Here's a picture from when we were at Mitch's house, of a nest we found. Mitch must have ran over the other two eggs. :?

Nope. Custard...Killdeer Kustard. It's on the Blue Marlin Menu...

Also, if there are enough eggs to be found, I make a killer puff pastry - those are Perfect Plover Puffs.
