Someone's poor Kitty....and lack of compassion

Postby jemek » Thu Aug 12, 2010 12:52 am

Okay..so I took DS to football and then waited for DH to get there. Then I headed out to go to the store.
I am heading down Woburn St...cars in front of me start to swerve around something. I get to where I can see it and it is a cat and he has been hit, but is still alive and seizures in the road...so I flip on the hazard lights and pull over into the parking lot of the Coca Cola place. I get out and go get the cat out of the road. I put him on the tailgate of the truck. I knew based on the seizure and the injury that he would not make it. So I gently petted him as he passed away.

He had a collar with a tag his name was Bailey and it had a phone number. So I was able to get a hold of the owners. I put him in a bag I had in the truck and waited for the owners to get there.

What ticked me off...was how could people just go around him...it was not like it was a dead cat laying on the side of the road. He was moving and having a seizure. I put myself in the owners shoes...what would I want someone to do??

The owners were sad, but also appreciated that I took the time to contact them. I think it also helped them knowing he did not die alone in the street, but being petted. I told them it was smart to have the tag on there...because at least that way..I had some way to contact the owners.

You did good, Kris. I know the owners were grateful, I sure would have been. I've given up trying to figure everyone else out and just be responsible for me. carold

That is sad. I also wonder the same thing, how people can be in such a hurry and not take the time to help out someone's beloved pet. I moved a dead cat off the road a few weeks ago that people were driving around. Luckily, too, he had a collar and tag on, so I was able to call the owner and tell her where he was. A friend of mine stopped to move a cat off the road one day and it turned out that it was still alive but unconscious. She brought it to her vet who was able to save the cat and she found a home for it.

Kudos to you for doing that!!!

Awwww....this made me cry :*( Thank you for doing this, You are a kind soul....Sometimes I wonder how some of the human race became soooo callous and we started treating animals who we have been given stewardship over with such indifference.
Thank you again I have no doubt I would want someone to treat my fur kids the same as you did...The thought of them being hurt, scared and alone is a very heart wrenching thought.
I want to live life ethically & sensible. To know what I dream I can achieve if I set realistic goals. NEVER SAY NEVER.....

I will succeed because I am honest, forthright, and caring.

And to fail, quit or just give up is my power ALONE.

Kris, that was very kind and compassionate. I know I'd be grateful if something happened to my dog like that and someone contacted me. Bless ya!

Good for you, Kris. I've stopped twice for dogs that were hit and still alive - and same thing - people driving all around them. And I had a friend who's dog slipped out of it's collar - we found it hit in the road - no one stopped either. Two of those times, I got the dogs to vets while they were still alive. Once I did just what you did - held the dogs head in my lap and petted him (looked like a Golden) until he passed. I realize in most cases the people who hit the animals couldn't do anything about it (although there are those who aim). But for the others to have no compassion - it's so frustrating.

Just another sign of the compassion of the women on this forum. You go, Kris!

That was so kind of you. What was the cat doing outside in the first place to get on the road? I'm so scared one of my babies will get hit that they're never off leash and my cats weren't allowed outside without a leash, too. That would have been my little sweet Sophies end if I hadn't grabbed her. Her companion, who wouldn't come to me, got killed before I could get animal control out there.

The kitty was lucky that you came along. That was a nice thing to do.
